Re: Weekly Randoms 2/3/20

  • I didn't watch anything other than the last 1:30 of the game last night, but this has me dying anyway. :joy:

Monday whine: fairly certain that cold I had last week is now a sinus infection, and I'm over it.
  • Loading the player...
  • @stlbuckeye132 oh no! Hopefully you can get started on some abx soon and get to feeling good again!
  • The only part of the game I did not watch was the halftime show.  I've seen some clips since then.  I had recorded Breaking Bad marathon and used halftime to finish an episode.  I'm not sure I get why folks are upset about what they were wearing.  It seemed no worse than what is often on display in that kind of show.
  • A friend shared this (halftime show related) and deserved a standing ovation.

Some people were saying it made them uncomfortable to watch with their kids because it wasnt family friendly. Eyeroll. I showed it to my 10 year old son this morning and he is usually super embarrassed about nudity, walking past bras in a store, and even CONVERSATIONS about breastfeeding 😂 but he thought the dancing was really cool. I told him it was a Latin style dance. He liked Shakira's dancing best, but thought it all looked cool. My 14 year old daughter was super impressed that J-Lo could dance like that in heels.

  • I thought the halftime was great, they are both so talented. So they wore some pretty risqué costumes, what super bowl halftime show in the past 10 years hasn’t involved a lot of skin?? Sorry, but sex sells. I loved jamming to all my favorite high school jams, and am beyond impressed that in their 40s-50s they can still move like that. I’m in my 30s and would break a hip if I busted one of those moves!! Oh and to all who were saying it wasn’t family friendly, that was JLo’s daughter that came out to perform so.....insert shoulder shrug emoji!
  • Chiming in to agree, I loved the halftime show and thought that, while it wasn't the spectacle of past Katy Perry/Beyonce shows, it was one of the more talented halftime shows I have seen. JLo was phenomenal as was Shakira and they were just spot on with their dance moves and looked great doing them. I could maybe get the outrage if people's outrage wasn't selective and if they weren't so talented to back up the costumes (in a world of rocking the clothes with the dance moves vs just being paraded around to be sexy, they were 100% the former).

Adam Levine last year looked great shirtless but also had a vibe of "some preteens dad who is super embarrassed that her dad is on TV" if that makes sense  :D
  • Also chiming in to agree.. you can see the same shit on cable at any time of day. They are both badasses and I agree @modoodles if I had a body like that I'd rock that shit in the dead of winter lol
  • Someone I know made a point that the target age for the halftime show is 18-64...not 1-10, so they're not going to tame it down for your little kids.  I didn't feel it was more risque than the past couple.  BUT the year Bruno Mars did it will always be my total fav.

@JessDG Bruno Mars?! My fave is, hands down, the year Missy showed up. I feel like no other halftime show will ever be as great.

ETA- I know you're not alone in your love for the Bruno Mars show though!
  • I think people just like to complain and create arguments online. lol

+1 for liking the halftime show. They're just so talented, you can't take that away from them. I didn't say love cause I just find it's so over the top, which I understand is the point, but I guess I'd just as soon watch the football game lol. As I was watching it though I was thinking "some people are NOTTTT going to be happy with this", I wasn't wrong.
  • Speaking of which, did anyone else see Hustlers? JLo is so hot lol. Like, if all strippers looked like JLo, then I'd understand the appeal of strip clubs  :D
  • @blaf322 I can't even remember who the main performer was the year that Missy made an appearance, but I remember getting SOOOO excited for her!

@stlbuckeye132 same bahaha... I had no clue who the main person was so I googled to make sure it wasn't Bruno after posting that comment :D
  • @blaf322 google tells me it was Katy Perry! (If you hadn't figured that out already.)
  • @blaf322 I do think it's seeing each other talking in one place that makes it easier to connect.  But maybe that's me being lazy and not looking enough elsewhere.
Also, we're getting closer to stage where everyone is not just throwing up and exhausted so hopefully more fun things to chat about.
  • @blaf322 I agree! Glad you had us switch it up. Also, someone just pointed out to me that that young woman singing in the middle of J Lo's set (it was the part with all the "pod people" is how I would describe it lol) was J Lo's daughter??? Holy shit!
  • @blaf322 I'm loving the big group check in! Not going to lie, I was reading all the other group check-ins before, but I mostly didn't comment on any of them other than mine because I didn't want to be creepy. I'm glad everyone's in one spot now though and I can freely share all of my thoughts. lol
  • i was guiltily lazy and didn't read much other check ins. but am really enjoying the joint one! it was a good idea!
  • @stlbuckeye132 I, typically, didn't comment either... during the rare times I did read other group check ins. I felt like an outsider who shouldn't be chiming in.

@meanjellybean I heard that too! What an amazing thing for her daughter to be able to be a part of!
  • I thought the halftime show was awesome and didn’t realize anyone had an issue with it.

I spent like half the game shoving small children to the floor because my kids and our friend’s kid decided it was a fun game, and it was oddly satisfying. Though then my friend who doesn’t have kids, but loves/works with kids came over and pushed them over a couple of times, and did it soooo hard. I think she just has no idea what an appropriate force to use on 3 year olds was. I was very quickly like, “okay fun game but now that’s over!”

Also I made deviled eggs because I wanted a tasty gluten-free Super Bowl snack. They were soooo good but I think I ate like 6 whole eggs which did not end up being the best idea.

There’s all my super bowl randoms!
  • Making a flowsheet of furniture H and I are wanting to purchase (nursery and otherwise. trying to upgrade some of our cheap college days furniture). Go to look for the recliner/rocker I picked out for the nursery, and they no longer sell it in the color I want. I'm probably wayy more disappointed than I should be, like tears disappointed :D . (it was a good price, and super comfy- I spent some late nights in it with my niece when she was first born)
  • @nursejenn5 I would be upset too! Never underestimate the power of a good rocker lol. Your tears are more than justified 😂
  • Only part of the super bowl I watched was the half time and I loved it! I was a huge JLo fan back in the day. Besides that I spent the night binge watching unexpected and getting super excited to snuggle a newborn again
  • Also over here almost in tears... but it's because I went to the vending machine to get some honey mustard pretzel pieces, but they cost 1.10 and I only had 80 cents in my wallet  :'( I literally just scrounged around in my desk looking for 30 more cents because I don't think my coworkers would ever stop making fun of me if I asked for 30 cents lol.

@footdrbritt yes! I can't remember if I loved those or not though. I feel like they were too sweet for me (I love sweet... but not frosting as much). I'm super pumped to get a pack anyway though lol

@meanjellybean girl, you should definitely ask for the $0.30! Those things are delicious lol
  • @meanjellybean been there!

@blaf322 that meme is spot on - IT'S SO TRUE! Women can't be sexy without ridicule.

Chiming in on the Superbowl and Halftime show. I 'watched' the entire thing; aka sitting on the couch next to my husband and scrolling through Instagram and Pinterest.  :D  I thought the halftime show was great; Shakira and JLo still got it! I had to laugh though at Shakira's little tongue turkey call thing that she did. So many people were talking about it and making memes  :D

Also - can we talk about that Google commercial?  :'(  I seriously sobbed haha. Then it followed up with the University of Wisconsin Veterinary Sciences and their dog who had cancer and then overcame it. Anything animal related I just bawl - haha.

  • I only watched the last part of the Super Bowl.  I’m usually not a big sports person but I enjoyed it more than I thought I would. We didn’t have plans and didn’t know if we could get it or not since we don’t have cable but found out we could watch through an app. I was excited for DH and worked on converting our crib back. My mom messaged me the other day and said she bought the crib sheets and skirt I was eyeing but not wanting to purchase since it’s our last so I got all excited to put it on lol 5 months is a long way away but why not 😆

@nursejenn5 I would have been sad too! I realized how important one was after putting just a simple glider on our registry. It’s not my favorite but I’m just going to make due since this is our last. Hopefully they’ll come back in stock for you!
    image

  • @meanjellybean exactly why I keep a cup of “emergency” change in our shared office space desk lol. Emergency coffee and snacks!
  • The dancing was unbelievable!! I loved it. The game was a pretty exciting too.

Re: gliders, have y'all done recliners for them? Used ottomans? Neither?
  • @mehugg I ended up have DH bring up our rocking recliner from the basement that goes with our living room set. It was so comfortable but took up a lot of space. I’m going to try the glider we have but I have a feeling we will end up doing the same thing. It was nice to be able to put my legs up and lean back.
    image

  • @mehugg I sometimes wish that we had gotten an ottoman because I am one of those people who always has to put their feet up. However, I almost think I would’ve been too comfy and combined with the extreme fatigue and frequent night wakings that I was dealing with, I would’ve probably fallen asleep holding DS in the chair. Unsafe situation for sure.
  • @mehugg my bestie had a glider and gliding ottoman for her son and I didn’t like it at all. We have a glider recliner from Best Home Furnishing.

Heres a pic of the one we got. I think it’s called the Cara and we both really like it. (Tried to spoiler but it’s messing up)
