@miss.sally Glad you made it home safely. I had mine drawn on Thursday... and I was "ok" the first few days, but once Monday hit, I am a WRECK. The anxiety is so bad it is impacting me physically and certainly psychologically. I am to the point where I am cutting corners at work today to try to get a run in just to help with my stress management so I can be a better parent when I get home. I don't know what is wrong with me. I hope you aren't AS BAD.
Well I had to go back today as our first draw didn’t contain enough fetal dna... and I was well over the minimum threshold weeks wise... they said might be because I’ve had so many blood draws and additional fluids via IV... hopefully this one has enough!
@miss.sally 7 vials for NIPT? Are you sure they didn’t draw for something else too? All four kits I saw only have two vials (main sample and backup sample)

@miss.sally I got mine done on thursday and my anxiety is crazy! Like @chichiphin my OB used integrated genetics/labcorp for my NIPT and they took 9 vials of blood.
Probably a dumb question, but if I opt to not do the NIPT test (insurance is being difficult), can the sex of the baby be determined via regular lab blood work (rather than waiting for 16-20 week ultrasound)?
I'm still undecided yet if I'll get the NIPT because my insurance (HealthLink) doesn't cover it. I went directly to the HealthLink website and found their stance on prenatal genetic testing. Basically, they don't consider the NIPT testing to be medically necessary unless I'm over the age of 35. (https://medicalpolicy.healthlink.com/medicalpolicies/policies/mp_pw_c150729.htm)
I went to Harmony's website and they suggest calling and speaking with a Harmony Care Specialist because they claim to be committed to getting access for all pregnant women and say they can work with me to help provide access to the test regardless of age or risk category. I want to look into that, but I saw some of you mention that I should get codes for the test that my OB office uses? What codes are these? Sorry if this is a silly question, too. I'm so uneducated on this topic (clearly) and you are so helpful!
@stacey6689@EmilyLove25 I also tested on Thursday. I called yesterday like a crazy person, but no luck. I've been checking my phone all day too.
@Malidocious if you're super anxious to know the sex, you can pay for the Sneak Peak test. It's a private company that only tests for sex through blood work. It's kind of expensive $80-$150 I think, but it's supposed to be 99% accurate at 8 weeks.
@Malidocious the NT scan (ultrasound) is automatic in that they can take the measurement and tell you what it is and what that means for fetal health. the blood work associated with it (not NIPT) is a waiting game.
Damn it. My doc called me at 4:10 to tell me results were in, and to call back TOMORROW. 😫 My phone was on “do not disturb” from my nap and I kept waking up check and see if they called. Sure enough, I missed it when they did. Now I’ve been calling back in the off chance they’d still be open and able to give me results today. So far, they’ve left a message with the doctor, but no luck. THIS IS TORTURE!
Ok, luckily got a call back from the doctor. First she said, “do you want to pick up the results tomorrow?” I said, “I’d rather get them over the phone now, since my husband is here with me.” She said, “well let me go get them, hold on.” Then she hung up! I figured it was an accident, but another anxiety ridden moment. A few minutes later, she called back, and said everything is normal. 😊 It’ll take a bit for the results to be uploaded to my patent portal, since it’s from an outside company. But I do feel a bit of relief.
Also, we’re having another boy! We were team green for DS #1, and it was awesome, but DH wanted to find out this time and I was open to having a different experience. Not gonna lie, we were both hoping for a girl, but I am loving the idea of brothers and already having bins full of clothes to reuse.
Now I want Saturday to get here to share the news!
@mrsvp614 congratulations and two boys will be so much fun! Like you said full reuse of clothes - and toys! And they’ll likely want to do the same activities as they get older so hopefully only need to run them both to one place! My brother has 3 boys each with a 2ish year age gap and they also really hoped for one girl but now say they wouldn’t change it for the world as they fit together so well!

@MrsVP614 I am so happy for you. I totally get wanting a girl--just because it is different--but two boys will be SO much fun. Adorable pictures! And yay to reusing clothes!
@MrsVP614 YAY for a boy and for good NIPT results!!! I vacillate between wanting another boy and wanting a girl. But then I think about periods and the teenage years and I land back on the boy side LOL. I can't believe your docs office put you through such hell to get the results That's just cruel!
@MrsVP614, congrats on your good results! and your little boy! I'm so excited for you!
@stassischroeder, I'm with you on the girl thing.. my daughter just turned 13, and the hormones.. oh, the hormones. and the period.. sigh. I still have to remember to buy pads (which I didn't yesterday.. oops), even though I'm pregnant, since of course she still needs them. lol. I would be happy having a boy or a girl since I already have one of each.. but... kinda hoping for a boy since a girl would be too far apart in age to really 'bond' with DD at this point. DS, on the other hand, is the perfect age for a little bro.... On the flip side, DD was so mellow (and an early talker) and was great fun to raise as a toddler/preschooler. DS.. not as verbal.. extremely active and boisterous.. not as fun to raise. (sorry DS.) So there's that.
I had my test done last Monday.. still no results! I wish they would hurry up with them. I hope they remembered to put in the order for it! Everything seemed so chaotic at the lab, they took a lot of vials of blood, but they were also doing the standard early pregnancy tests... I remember last time when I took the Harmony test, they specifically had the Harmony box in the room and put a vial in it. They didn't do that this time. If it wasn't ordered.. ugh. Hopefully it was.
@MrsVP614 Congrats on baby boy! How exciting. What test did you get and how long from your blow draw did the results take? I go in on Tuesday for mine; I know I will be a mess until I get the results.
@stassischroeder@treetop19 I have always said that if I had same-sex siblings, I’d prefer two boys over two girls. I never had a sister, and I’m sure it’s special and all, but I don’t know if I could handle the emotional drama that comes with girls! But now, DH is already talking about the possibility of a third, and I’m like, pump the brakes, let’s see how it feels with number two. But also, the third could be a boy too! Ha! @jenEP My doc used Progenity and it took one week. Last time, we used Counsyl and it was at least two weeks, so I wasn’t expecting these results so quickly.
@MrsVP614.. on that note, this is hilarious - a not too bright coworker of mine once remarked to a pregnant lady at the office (who already has two sons) well, at least you know for sure it's a girl this time, because there is only 50/50 odds! um... what?
@stassischroeder I am 100% with you on this. I flip flop btwn wanting a girl vs 2nd boy and then I said to DH yesterday, “Is it weird I kinda don’t want a girl just bc I don’t wanna deal with explaining tampons?” Or diva cups or whatever the future brings. And I also was the worst teenager. I know karma would get me if I have a girl once the teenage years roll around.
I think I will have a twinge of sadness if it’s another boy bc this is 100% it, but overall I think DS would just love having a little bro close in age, so I’ll have to just remind myself of that.
@silverhope eeeeeexactly! Additionally, the idea of raising a girl in today's world scares the sh*t out of me. Like it's never been easy to raise girls, but right now I feel like things are moving backwards. So, agree about the twinge of sadness just because we're 100% done after this one too, but also relief. Not that having a boy negates all chances of drama or gender-woes. If any of my children are LBGQT, we're 10000% moving to a different area of the country because prejudices are crazy around here.
I used to be worried about having girls, but now that I have two, I can't imagine it any other way. They love each other sooo much (I know this can change). I feel empowered that I get to raise girls without the gendered expectations that I had growing up. I am sure the teenage years will be insane, though. I am also very excited about the possibility of baby 3 being a boy for some of the same reasons.
I would love to have another girl just because they’re fun to dress and I looooved DD as a toddler. DS on the other hand is a maniac. But. DD is crazy now (9) and hormones are a b*tch to deal with. So. Really I think I’d be totally happy with either.
In case anyone was feeling crazy and you want to compare yourself to a truly crazy pregnant woman, here's an actual conversation I had today:
Nurse: Nancy, I assume you are calling about your Informaseq results? Me: Yes. Nurse: I checked the Labcorp portal and they aren't in yet. Me: I know, I've checked every ten minutes this morning, but I wanted to ask you a serious question. Nurse: Yes? Me: Does the fact that the results are taking longer than they did with my son for the same test mean something is wrong? Nurse: (...) No... it hasn't even been 7 business days. It just means, quite literally, that the lab is busy...
@jenEP I really enjoyed your response. My sister is my best friend still at 3 years apart and we didn’t give any trouble to our parents as teens, and that is absolutely a gendered expectation and one I would feel empowered to overcome as well. It very much boils down to personal temperament interacting with environments and my brother was definitely more hormonal and moody as a teen than we were (though still an amazing kid overall!)
Regardless I have to check myself too because raising boys scares me! And I’ll admit that is because of gender expectations, so I need to get over that and just understand that all kids are unique and healthy and happy is all that matters
@EmilyLove25 Ha! It’s totally normal to be anxious. Hopefully the results are back soon for you!
Also, I appreciate this conversation about babies and sex preference. Of course, we’ll all be happy no matter what, with heathy, happy children. But I was nervous to admit we wanted a girl, out of fear I would be bashed. Thanks for being open and honest!
@MrsVP614 that’s sweet, I think that it’s perfectly okay to have a preference and normal to have a small part of us feel bumbed when at first our reality is different from what we imagined! We can feel happy AND a bit disappointed but overall pumped! We come around. It’s like how happy family lifecycle changes (getting married, having children, etc) also come with hard emotions - this is no different! Glad you didn’t feel judged 🤗
So I'm REALLY freaking out. At 4:37 I saw my results came in and were sent to the doctor (they had not been an hour prior). I RUSHED and called. The receptionist said a nurse would call me RIGHT back... no one ever did. The office closes at 5 but still. I am very, very much assuming this is a sign the results are NOT good and they are complex and serious. With my son, a nurse called me and told me the (good) results. So I'm a total disaster and devastated and feel like I can't breathe. They open at 8:30 AM tomorrow, and I'll be calling from work, expecting a truly hard day.

@jenEP My doc used Progenity and it took one week. Last time, we used Counsyl and it was at least two weeks, so I wasn’t expecting these results so quickly.

I think I will have a twinge of sadness if it’s another boy bc this is 100% it, but overall I think DS would just love having a little bro close in age, so I’ll have to just remind myself of that.

I would love to have another girl just because they’re fun to dress and I looooved DD as a toddler. DS on the other hand is a maniac. But. DD is crazy now (9) and hormones are a b*tch to deal with. So. Really I think I’d be totally happy with either.
I've officially lost it, ladies.

Regardless I have to check myself too because raising boys scares me! And I’ll admit that is because of gender expectations, so I need to get over that and just understand that all kids are unique and healthy and happy is all that matters
Also, I appreciate this conversation about babies and sex preference. Of course, we’ll all be happy no matter what, with heathy, happy children. But I was nervous to admit we wanted a girl, out of fear I would be bashed. Thanks for being open and honest!
