Should I start a gender announcement thread? (I know it should be sex, but probably not as well received). Many of us are finding out and posting here, but other are doing the sneak peek and posting there, and then there will be those finding out in a few weeks/months. I get nervous starting posts...
Had my NT scan today. Everything looks good! I wasn't nervous until I got in the chair. Last time DH was with me, but I was alone this time and got really nervous something might be wrong and I'd be alone to deal with that. Glad all looks okay. And I could see the baby move around a little bit and put his/her hand to his/her face. This baby is way less active than the last baby based on the 2 ultrasounds I've had. This baby seems super chill ha.
Got my NIPT results today. All normal. And it’s a boy! We have two girls so we really thought we were a girl family. So shocked, excited, and thankful!
Finally heard back from my OB. My NT scan measurement was a 1.1 which I am grateful for and I am low risk for Down Syndrome and Trisomy 18/13. Unfortunately, they said I came back as a carrier for Galactosemia which has something to do with how the baby processes sugar. So now my husband has to go in to get blood work to make sure he isn't a carrier as well. Oh and apparently they didn't test for the sex. I am totally having a WTF moment at work right now. They made me wait all this time just to tell me now my husband needs blood work and they can't even tell me the sex of my baby. Ugh just so upset.
@stacey6689 that's frustrating! It sounds like Galactosemia is a manageable condition that your baby only has a 25% change of being affected by if your husband is also a carrier. I think your husband has a 1/110 chance of being a carrier (so less than 1%). Very annoying to not get the sex info, but so glad the NT scan and trisomy results were good!
@stassischroeder Yeah once I got the lab report I started looking up info on Galactosemia. Yeah it's very unlikely that he is also a carrier so that's a plus. Glad the baby is healthy. Guess I will be waiting for my anatomy scan in November to find out the sex.
@lemonlove86 - I had my draw with Natera on the same day as you and have been anxiously waiting for the results!!! No news yet and the wait is killing me. Will call them later today to follow up - my doctor is notorious for not calling with results on time.
@babyfox320 congratulations!!! That’s so awesome! Baby girl 🤗
Dynacare (Harmony) called me today and said they received my sample and will likely have results mid next week. But in Canada the doctor legally has to call/see you in person to share results so who knows how long that piece will take (although my doctor is very good at being responsive and calling generally). So I’m hoping I don’t need a re-draw, genetics counselor said 3 days is not a huge difference so they are going to use my original date of March 25. I mean what can I do 🤷🏻♀️ I guess I wait a bit longer and do the NT scan in about 1.5 weeks to get some info. I’m oddly calm. I figure this is the first test in parenthood, I can’t control everything
Doctor's office called before 7:30 this morning with good news!
Everything came back low risk (they said it was some of the lowest numbers they've ever seen. Still waiting for Natera to publish my results so I can see them for myself)
and we're having a GIRL!! I 100% thought it was a boy but am so thrilled. DH and I are over the moon for a healthy baby!
Also very pleased that the doctor's office called so early and right away.
I had my NIPT blood test drawn on the 29th. I’m anxiously awaiting results. I just called my doctors office to see if the results happened to be in, and of course I had to leave a message on the nurse line :-/ lol my doctor told me it would take about a week so I’m waking up everyday wishing they would call!
I called Labcorp and apparently they processed and sent results in about 2 days. They said they are with my provider as of yesterday, but my provider doesn't have them. 2 days makes me nervous though - hoping that doesn't mean it was a low fetal fraction so they couldn't actually process it.
We received our results on Labor Day! I was not expecting that at all considering the office would be closed. Blood drawn on the 24th (Saturday), the MaterniT21 lab received specimen on the 27th (Tuesday), and results came through the Scripps portal on the 2nd. So... 6 business days or 9 days total. It was a nail-biter, for sure.
Negative on everything and my son will have a little sister! All I have to say is that I KNEW IT! My symptoms were a complete 180 from my son. We are absolutely ecstatic to have one of each.
1999 - Starting dating (in High School!) 2005 - Got hitched 2009 - Trying to grow our family... 2017 - BFP!! Baby Declan born December 2017 2019 - BFP!! Baby Girl EDD March 2020
@dunder_mifflin Interesting about the differences between Canada & elsewhere. Hope you can hear about them soon.
AFM: We're doing our NIPT blood draw Wed. & I guess we'll talk then about any further tests either regardless of but also based on results. It should take a ~week if my notes are right for results, but possibly less. FX we've got a healthy bean in there.
@kagesstarshroom true! I wish I could get them online or over the phone. It’s probably to ensure people are informed properly with advise from an MD? it’s also one of the only tests my midwife can’t order which I found unusual. My family doctor did the requisition since I don’t have an OB so family doctor gets results and then they are sent to midwife after I review with my doctor. hopefully mid this week I’ll know results or if I have to re-draw. ☺️
@justlauren05 congratulations on healthy baby girl! That’s amazing!!
My results are back! They told me everything looked normal and great, and my sister will pick up the gender results on Thursday. We will find out with family on Saturday! I can’t wait to find out if my son will have a sister or brother....I’m totally thinking girl!
results are in! (had to call 4 times on Friday) All low risk and it's going to be our third boy I was really hoping for a girl, not going to lie, but still excited to add another brother to my crazy bunch
Congrats everyone getting good results!! Everyone who is getting this testing may have already done so, but if this helps anyone or @Madamemerle if you haven't heard from your insurance, as I also have United Healthcare, here goes. So my insurance didn't deny the claim as I was told, the blood was sent to a genetic screening company that is out of my network (Myriad on 8/23), that's why it was so costly and not toward my deductible. Wtf to the perinatal specialist for choosing that company, either they knew and have some partnership with them, or they didn't know but should have. Then wtf to Myriad for telling me that insurance denied it instead of saying they're not in their network. I should have been more brazen in my inquiry of why insurance would deny it in the first place, but I didn't know what was going on, just kind of thinking these providers have pregnant ladies' best interest at heart. Literally made a whole thing up in my head that the doctor must have marked me as low risk based on the good ultrasound taken that day. It was at my OB checkup a couple weeks after (9/5) that he said heck to the no, you need to appeal, that I called the insurance company and found all this out. United Healthcare informed me they do cover Labcorp and Quest so I call the perinatal office and ask if they use those options, and they said yes we do, we'll just redraw at your 10/3 appointment. Again, I'm oblivious and just said okay. My friend who is an ER doctor and also pregnant and AMA right now said BS all they have to do is put your order in the system and you walk into any Diagnostic Lab for the draw. And sure enough, I called them back, they put in the order, walked in and had the blood drawn in five minutes today at lunch, and should have results in a week (<---I think, I still feel oblivious and a little pessimistic about this whole process, but fingers crossed!!). I'm so far along now, but it will still be nice knowing in advance whether anything is popping up.
@stac4056 what an ordeal! Wow that sounds very frustrating but I’m glad you’re were able to sort it out hoping your results come quickly.
I called Dynacre who carry out the Harmony test and they said the results should be in to my doctor by 8pm tonight. I hat means I’ll have to hear back from my doctor tomorrow morning (they can’t even see the results at dynacare, apparently they just get sent right over). What they can tell me today if I do call in an hour or so is whether the blood test requires a re-draw, so at least I will have an answer for that soon.
About to pass out out from the anticipation! I wouldn’t even say I’m anxious, I just want to know if everything is okay or if I need redraw. I called my doctor and asked they call me ASAP when results are faxed and the clerical staff made a note to her. My doctor is pretty responsive so I’m sure I’ll know early tomorrow morning. 😬😬😬😬😬😬😬
EDIT: results are in, I don’t need a re-draw which is a relief. But they were sent to my doctor at 5:15 and she was definitely gone for the day so I’ll hopefully hear tomorrow morning - and hopefully not during my two hour clinical rounds at work! Because I’ll be answering that phone come hell or high water, I don’t care what update I’m getting 😂 (I’m the worlds’ worst social worker right now, but I guess it’s self care? Haha)
After waiting for two weeks, I finally called and asked why I hadn't heard back on scheduling the test. Turns out the authorization was never sent... After a few days, got the call to say they'd sent it in and UHC had approved it. So, I went in for my test, sent down to the lab got the blood draw and was handed a piece of card with a bar code and told I'd get my results in a week or so. Looked at the card on the way home and notice it's a Counsyl card not Maternit21, which the authorization was for (UHC don't cover Counsyl at all).
I decided to wait a day or so to see if Counsyl call to offer the out of pocket rate because at this point I've had the test...
A day later the doctors office calls to say, I have to have the test again because the lab called to say my tube was expired(!). So, I tell them they did the wrong test too, and I guess it's actually lucky the tube was expired?!
Anyway, I went in again for the Maternit21 test... Here's hoping.
@Madamemerle man, what is up with these offices?!! Makes me a little nervous that they make so many little mistakes with something so dire. Hope you get results soon!! @dunder_mifflin glad you don’t have to redraw and get your results tomorrow!!
Congrats to all on healthy babies! I got my NIPT results back on Monday (earlier than I thought) and everything is low risk.
I also found out we are having a BOY!! I’m so excited and I also had a feeling it was a boy bc DDs pregnancy was much rougher by this time.
I can’t wait to share the news this weekend. I planned a reveal “party” (not a party but more of a event) with DH’s friends and my brothers. I can’t wait to see DH’s reaction. I also can’t wait for everyone to know. I’m terrible at surprises and only my bff (who is due this month) knows.
I just got results!! Low risk for all! My doctor wouldn’t tell me the sex, lol. She said, “I’m going to email it to you and you have to open it with your husband. But I know what it is, im staring at the sex right now...” like damn, way to dangle it! But DH asked if she could Email it so we can open together and I was secretly hoping she would blurt it out before I got a chance to ask her to email! DH and I won’t be seeing each other until 9pm tonight since we have separate plans after work so it will just be casually sitting in my inbox for another 8 hours 😂 just relieved our little one is low risk
Oh man, sending hugs out to everyone who is dealing with stressful OB clinics and testing procedures. You'd think these companies would have the best interest of pregnant ladies in mind, but apparently that isn't the case.
@dunder_mifflin YAY for great results!!!!! And ooooh let us know when you find out the sex!!!
@dunder_mifflin That's funny re: the email--DH was in the office when I was asking to OB how the results call would go, and I specifically asked him in front of her if it was okay that I knew first and he was like, "yup!" I suppose you could OPEN the email and then save it as unopened if you really wanted to haha..... I won't tell!
and lol @kagesstarshroom I wish that was his response!! Haha! But alas DH is very sentimental and I know how much it will mean to him if I wait - so I guess I’ll be a good partner 🙄 even though I really want to do what you suggested. Haha! I’ll let y’all know soon!
Just opened the results with DH... it’s a GIRL! We’re so excited!!
Funny story, DH looked at my information at the top of the panel and results, and he saw “sex: F” and assumed it was the sex of the baby. And we both didn’t say “it’s a girl!” We just hugged each other and cried a bit. If it was a boy that would have been a confusing but hilarious story.

The last of my blood work came back from Myriad/Counsyl and everything was low-risk and/or negative! I'm feeling very grateful.
I’m hoping to get my results mid this week 🤗 I had to refrain from calling today lol! Fingers crossed
