Re: Question Thread

  • Question about early ob ultrasounds... Since we started seeing a fertility specialist in February, when I got the + test unexpectedly in April, I called an me they scheduled me for weekly ultrasound until 8 week, then I start seeing OB. Well, at my 2nd to last ultrasound with a PA, she suggested it may be an abnormal pregnancy because I should be close to 7 weeks based on my last period, but she's not seeing a heart beat. I got a 2nd opinion and the doctor said that the fetal pole measured about 6 weeks and he saw some flicker that may suggest heart motion (not yet heart beat)... So the baby may not be developing properly or my ovulation day was really off... I'm mentally preparing for the worst... What is everyone's (past)  experience with ultrasounds? Is it really a bad sign or still too early?
  • @jetlagged42 if you’re not sure when you ovulated things can be off from LMP date. With my son, I was temping very closely and knew I had ovulated on CD 19, not 14. Then when I had my early u/s and they said I was looking 5 days “behind” I didn’t panic, but if I hadn’t been temping I might have. Then add to that one tiny pixel having the ability to throw the measurement off and it’s not hard to get to a week. The waiting game is so, so hard and I’m really sorry you have this uncertainty.

  • So much easier said than done, but if you don't know your ovulation date, try not to panic too much. I didn't ovulate until day 21 when I was trying with my first, but the OB's office is old school like most and still calculates from LMP, so they also assumed I was further along.

  • Can rlp start this early? I’m only 4 weeks but I just turned the wrong way and I about died. Tw* this is technically my 8th pregnancy but haven’t made it past 6 weeks with 6 of them. End tw* I’ve heard it can start earlier with more pregnancies but I didn’t think early losses would count.
  • @kbrown2385 last week right around 4 weeks I had some very sharp pains in my sides that felt like RLP. It happened after I had been sitting for a while and then stood up to walk. I'm not sure of its RLP or the uterus starting to expand but I had it in my first pregnancy as well and believe it's pretty common.
  • @dumbledoredies I just didn’t expect it this early is all. I had it with my son but it wasn’t until much later.
  • I have also had feelings that felt like RLP. I got it pretty early last pregnancy, too, but I don't think this early.
  • MollySmMollySm member
I've also had the RLP feeling already when turning quickly, and was surprised.

  • Anybody else extremely bloated? Any advice? I'm a balloon today, but also don't think housing a slice of babka is helping the situation.
  • @laurenmicheley no advice, just solidarity! The bloat is real!
  • +1 on the bloat. I'm already doing the "rubber band trick" most days.
  • +1 on the bloat as well. Wake up looking like nothing has changed and I think I double in size by bedtime. But it’s normal so the only advice I have is to wear comfortable and stretchy clothes 😂
  • I’m relieved to hear others have felt RLP. I sat up sharply in bed and definitely felt it, and I’ve felt other periodic “twinges” and fullness and stuff that I figured was uterus starting to expand, but I was surprised by it happening this early. Then again, for those of us who’ve been pregnant before, we also recognize the feelings so maybe we’re just more aware of what’s going on this time around.
  • +1 to bloat and early rlp! I'm glad I am not alone there.

  • +1 to bloat. Last time, I started showing with a real bump by 10-12 weeks. I've heard that STM can show sooner.
  • peppyj9peppyj9 member
+1 on bloat, and also, man, I'm starting to feel exhausted! And, OK, so, maybe this is TMI, and I'm sorry, but the past couple nights I've been having crazy, pornographic sex dreams, which I never have. I'm assuming it's because of hormones, but was definitely not expecting that as a side effect. Is that normal?
  • @peppyj9 Yes. That's normal. Last pregnancy I had those ALL THE TIME. So far none this time around, but man...I woke up all the time feeling like I'd cheated on my husband!
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @peppyj9 - Yep, super vivid dreams are a normal part of pregnancy. I had a few that were sex related, but some were just very vivid where I could taste, smell, touch everything.
  • peppyj9peppyj9 member
@KristinUM12 ha! Ok, glad to hear that's normal! I kind of shocked myself 😅
  • @peppyj9 I also had a much higher sex drive too
  • peppyj9peppyj9 member
    @marebear15 interesting. I didn't know about that
  • peppyj9peppyj9 member
@persnickity I'm sure DH will love that side effect! 😅
  • @peppyj9 That’s much better than the dream (nightmare) I had last night that I was covered in roaches. Much rather have the sexy dream 😅.
  • peppyj9peppyj9 member
@laurenmicheley omg 😱 agreed, sexy dream way better than roaches! *shudders* sorry you had that in your head. Hope you have more pleasant dreams!
  • mokay19mokay19 member
@peppyj9 I had some vivid sex dreams the first week or two after finding out, also!
I, however, was the opposite of persnickity and had like zero sex drive until the third trimester. When we found out that I was pregnant this time, DH goes “I guess I’m going back to being celibate...” 😂
  • peppyj9peppyj9 member
@mokay19 aww, poor YH 😏  maybe this one will be different though! As for me, other than the vivid sex dreams, I haven't had a desire yet, so we'll see if that changes...
  • @KristinUM12 when i have dreams about other men , i feel like such a bad person and like theres something wrong with me. So glad im not the only one

Anyone have leftover Diastasis recti going into this pregnancy or a previous pregnancy?
How do you manage?  I want to wear spanx everyday because I’m huge and so bloated from this and progesterone.
  • I don't have diastasis recti, but I wear control top panty hose with a light leg compression during the first two trimesters, then switch to just compression socks for the 3rd. It helps with swelling and having a little belly support.
  • I had some diastis recti after my last pregnancy- a 2 finger separation so not extreme, but it’s there. I am nervous for it to get worse this time. I definitely look very bloated and I’m only on week 5...
  • FX I actually have a sex drive this pregnancy. I'm pretty sure with my son me and MH dtd 5-6 times the entire time I was pregnant.

@mokay19 I had DR last pregnancy; technically it’s not anymore (1.5 fingers) but I fear it coming back. I carried big, had a big baby, and was stretched to high heavens. I have a good friend who had an 8-finger separation with her second despite doing everything “right” to avoid it. The plus side right now is that I never really stopped looking pregnant, so my bloat hasn’t raised any suspicion. I’m hiding in plain sight!
  • mokay19mokay19 member
@persnickity I wear jeans at work so panty hose might be weird haha

@justbeachy888 yes, mine had gotten down to probably less than 2 fingers but I feel like it instantly got worse when my pregnancy hormones arrived

@Xstatic3333 yes, my stomach got huuuge and went straight out last time with the separation. I had an outtie belly button before pregnancy and now with no shape and a deformed outtie, I always look pregnant. But I’m worried if the DR can cause any issues for me or baby?
  • @mokay19 I think it’s more of a risk to our long-term health than the baby/pregnancy. My PT last time explained that the ab muscles are closely connected to the pelvic floor, so people with PR are more likely to have bladder issues, pain with sex, etc. postpartum and beyond. What I don’t know is how to prevent it getting worse this time. I avoided ab work last time, and gained an appropriate amount of weight, and still got it anyway.
  • mokay19mokay19 member
@Xstatic3333 same with those things. And it’s definitely hindered my ability to hold my bladder already so I hope it doesn’t get worse. Or else, Depends here I come!
  • Vanity question: anyone know the “rule” on self tanner? I usually use the gradual stuff. Can I still use it? Not on the belly? I feel like I knew the answer but I’ve forgotten and google is inconclusive
  • @MrsJessS Regardless of where you apply it, the chemicals get absorbed into the blood stream. I think it depends on how conservative you are about things like this. If you're extremely conservative about things during pregnancy, don't use it or wait until after the first trimester.

  • @persnickity thanks for the article! My brain got mad at google after a couple articles told me “maybe yes, maybe no. We don’t know” 😂 I have zero patience lately I’ll probably wait for the second trimester then :)

Ok, so I'm freaking out just a little. I had a dental exam this morning that I had scheduled months ago. After she took my bitewing xrays she asked if there was anything new going on with me medically and that's when I revealed I was pregnant. She exclaimed "why didn't you tell me before I took the xrays?!" And I felt so stupid, I didn't know. Then when I told her I was 5 weeks she tried to reassure me that it was so early and the xrays were so minimal and most people don't even know they're pregnant this early and she apologized for freaking me out. And later the dentist assured me it was fine, nothing to worry about just going forward I shouldn't get any type of xray unless necessary. But of course I'm paranoid now. It just didn't register with me that you're not supposed to get xrays. I mean, what are ultra sounds? Anyone else had a similar experience?
  • @peppyj9 When I was pregnant with my 13 month old I had a dentist appointment the day before I found out and I had X-rays. He is perfectly fine! For some reason with him I didn't get a positive until I was a few days late, with my other pregnancies I got the positive very, very early. **TW** I was coming right off of a miscarriage and wasn't expecting to be pregnant so I just chalked up being late to my hormones trying to return to normal.**End TW** I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry!
