Re: April Randoms

  • @LJMoon6 I always reach a point in winter where I want to move to some place warm.  But then I remember the size of the bugs in those warm areas and I decide to stick with the cold!
  • Loading the player...
  • @monkeysmom80 I’ll move anywhere that doesn’t have stink bugs. Give me palm sized spiders over stink bugs any day.
  • @monkeysmom80 Bugs don't bother me one bit. It's MH who has the problem with them. Damn him!

  • @duewithpu2 I'm not sure what they are bringing, but as long as it's a lot of different things I will just be a happy fat preggo lady while I gorge myself. Hoping for some sort of chip/dip situation, mini egg rolls, sliders, etc. GIMME ALL THE FOOD.

@lillywonderland sliders always sound good. And as for working with bad weather, I am able to work from home whenever I need to which is AMAZING. DS' daycare rarely closes (they've only closed early once so far this entire winter) and it usually just depends on road condition as to whether or not I'm going to brave driving him in because if I don't take him in then I have to attempt to work with him at home and that is damn near impossible.

We ended up not getting hit very hard, thankfully so I am in the office and ready to receive my appetizer bounty. Come on, 4PM!

  • @zuuls_mom Enjoy your Coors goodies!!  I'm jealous!  I'm also glad daycares aren't closed today.  Mine tends to close somewhat often for weather and then I'm at home not working because concentration and toddlers are incompatible.  :)
  • @cammie0526 I can totally relate! I am supposed to be in another city at my college to hand out an award tomorrow, with the committee I am on (that I spearhead). And I completely forgot until today. So I didn't organize the committee or let them know about it. And I can't go last minute because work. Oops. I am close with my old teachers so I hope they can pull it off for me.  :#

  • @LJMoon6- that sounds absolutely horrendous! It is terrible here as well. I think we got about 8 inches of snow but it has now turned into freezing rain/sleet/hail/I don’t even know. Luckily my commute is only six minutes on a good day, so I was able to take slower roads home and never went over 20 miles an hour. This is crazy scary! So sorry about your anxiety!!

  • I just need to rant. DH won $500 on a scratch off the other day, and decided he would spend his winnings on bulk stuff to prepare for baby (swoon 😍). So, his mom agreed to take him to Sams Club since she has a membership. Well he goes to get some formula, and she starts snapping “what she isn’t even going to try to breastfeed? Didn’t you tell her breast is best?” No I’m not even going to try because it was a HUGE struggle with DS that caused nothing but problems and unnecessary stress spiraling me into deep PPD. I’m not putting up that fight again and making DS suffer because my life is consumed by breastfeeding. Not happening. I’m all for breastfeeding when and where you want to, but it isn’t for me. His family is very pro BF. His sister is constantly saying “breast is best, Fed is bare minimum” and comparing formula to Big Macs. DH stood up for me in the moment against his mom last night, but I don’t think I can refrain from snapping if she says anything to me next time I see her. End rant.
  • @duewithpu2 oh hell no!!  As someone else who tried and failed to BF with #1, I can totally understand why you're so pissed.  I don't know how comfortable you are with confronting your ILs but if I were you, I'd shut that sh*t down right quick.  Your body, your baby, your business.

  • @duewithpu2 That is sooooo inappropriate. I'm so glad DH stood up for you. I think RedBreast said it beat.... It is none of their business.
  • @duewithpu2 Wow.  That would make me irate, too.  Maybe you can find a time to bring it up when no one is already upset about anything and explain your rationale and feelings about it?  Having said that, my MIL is also pretty intense on some fronts, and I completely avoided discussing an issue with her that she was all worked up about (for almost a year until it naturally went away), so I don't have much room to talk.  :)
  • @duewithpu2 Breastfeeding is hard work and your MIL needs to mind her own business.  I healthy, happy mom and a fed baby is best!

  • @duewithpu2
That's definitely swoon worthy that YH wanted to buy bulk stuff for baby.

Was your MIL obnoxious about BF the first time around? Kudos to your hubs for standing up for you in Sam's Club!

I have no experience in BF vs formula, but holy crap are people rude and nosy about it! Fed is best, not the bare minimum, and formula has all (and sometimes more) nutrients than BM on a consistent basis and not tied to tour diet.

@LJMoon6 my husband is from Minnesota, so my MIL has been sending pics of all the snow this week and asking if he wants to move back haha (we live in SC)

  • Thanks for the support everyone! I’m so non confrontational that I probably will just be short with her next time I see her and if she brings it up, address the topic then. I wish people realized how damaging it can be to tell a new mother doing her absolute best is “bare minimum”. Ugh!
  • @duewithpu2 ask her how long she breastfed her kids for. I am betting she barely did!! My mom says they had no idea that they were supposed to do it for a long time and no one did... and I bet she thinks her kids turned out just perfect... so that should end her argument.

I'm sorry there is any shame in any type of feeding your child. People can be so rude and judgmental and way out of line.

  • @MsBeachNJ Supposedly she BF all 4 until 2yo. His sister is at almost 3.5yo and still going strong. Great but not my journey.
I’m not saying breast milk is lesser or bad in any way, but the benefits when compared to formula have been exaggerated by the socioeconomic factors that were not considered in the scientific studies. As long as the kid is being fed one of the two, that’s all that matters!

@duewithpu2 sorry you’re dealing with that. Don’t even explain yourself to her. Your baby, your choice. My MIL is awful. All of my in-laws are actually. I breastfed my son til he self weaned but my MIL didn’t get it. She’s actually on the opposite end where she doesn’t understand breastfeeding and literally got annoyed that my husband couldn’t give my son a bottle. Don’t get worked up over it. It’s not worth it. Glad your husband stood up for you.. that’s the key with opinionated in laws. Fed is best! Over the years I’ve learned to shut my in laws out. I just nod my head and do what I need to do.
  • @septoctkids thank you! I hope your MIL gets over herself this time around. If not you could always squirt her like that one news article I see floating around everywhere 😂
  • God I love this group! @duewithpu2 I wholeheartedly agree with what everyone has said and I honestly feel like I could have written the same thing you did! Breastfeeding was so hard and I failed miserably. I am still struggling with trying to decide if I want to try again or not. I want to avoid (or at least lessen) any chances of the horrific PPD I had last time at all costs. I'm so glad your H supported you and stood up for you!

  • @zuuls_mom I’m glad yet also sorry that you feel my pain! Your list of apps has gotten me more excited than my husband has since this baby killed my sex drive 😂

@themadcamel I think that thread is a great idea

  • @zuuls_mom queso is my all time fave. 😍
  • Yeah, I agree with everyone else about BFing. I was lucky I was able to with my son, but my supply tanked after I went back to work and I (figuratively) killed myself to keep it up. I don’t have time for that sh*t this go round, so if/when my supply starts tanking I’m going to happily feed 2.0 formula.

@zuuls_mom TY! I was just about to ask you all about the apps from yesterday!!  Sounds delish!!

@themadcamel Not that you need my permission...but...

  • Rant ahead: Did you guys see the news about the Fisher Price Rock n Play being recalled? I used one with my son and it was a lifesaver for keeping him comfy while I ate, showered, etc. I never let him sleep in it overnight or unattended for naps. The thing that confuses me is why is this item so dangerous, but swings, bouncers, etc. are fine. I don't think this should be recalled at all. It seems like people aren't following the instructions on proper usage. If anything, they shouldn't have called it a "sleeper" because people can think that means it's safe for sleep and it is not. I guess all of this is to say that I'm annoyed it got recalled completely.

@zuuls_mom it’s a lot softer than things like swings and bouncers. The baby sinks into it more. It can cause flat bead syndrome and can restrict the airway as well because of the way the baby sinks into with the incline. I’m sure you can still use it if you choose. Around the house I use a bouncer that I can take in different rooms with me. They say they should be transferred to a flat surface if they fall asleep. 🤷🏻‍♀️
  • @septoctkids oh absolutely! I never left my son in there for more than 45 min tops. He always slept in his crib or on me. It was just a place for him to hang out. The one I had was still pretty structured and not super cushioned so I don't know if there are others that are. I think as long as it's being used appropriately it should be fine, but it's upsetting that because people are using it in an unsafe manner, it's now being recalled.

  • @zuuls_mom I hear you for sure. Maybe they’ll restructure it and come out with an even better design.
  • @duewithpu2 Your IL's need a good smack, especially your SIL. That is so inappropriate, I can't even.
@themadcamel Do it, I love a good inappropriate comments thread.

My belly has been so itchy lately that I had to bring lotion to work to apply multiple times so I made my own belly butter. It's currently setting, but I put a little on and it already feels good. I'm pretty excited, I love making skin products! Also, I would like to thank MN for sharing their blizzard with me...we weren't suppose to get anything until 2 days ago and it's still snowing.
  • @zuuls_mom, @septoctkids I posted a PSA about that - I just got a yahoo alert. I didn’t see you guys talking about it in here.
  • @lillywonderland thanks for posting that. I think we are better off safe than sorry for sure.
  • FFFC but we will still be using our RnP, just not for unattended sleep. I loved it and it was a life saver because it moved so easily from room to room. It’s literally the only thing my first would be put in unless held-refused swings, bouncers, the floor, anything. He does not have a flat head and sleeps perfectly fine now so it seems to be fine when used appropriately.

  • GOT tonight! Woo!

My FFSC is that I am actually kind of nervous to watch this season. I have been sooooooo emotional lately and cry at the dumbest things. In GOT season one I cried so hard when a certain character died that my abs were sore the next day. I can only imagine how this season will go with all the pregnancy hormones.
  • @kgg2241 DH and I have been rewatching season one yesterday and today and I have cried almost every damn episode, even for little things that didn’t make me cry before.
  • @kgg2241 I’m nervous too! I don’t want to see any of my (remaining) favorite characters die! 😭

  • I’m so tired. We spent the entire weekend cleaning. House and Garage are 100% clean! Wahoo!! We are going to try to do something fun this weekend because DS was a teeny bit neglected (but thoroughly enthralled with the Swiffer).
  • @lillywonderland are the floors all complete?  Do you love them?
