@eatinwatermelonseeds totally not into it rn. I listed one name and I do really like it but I just don’t feel any pressure to think of a name asap. Names are hard. I’ll wait to think about it seriously til I feel ready. Probably after the anatomy scan when we find out the sex. That’s so funny that your H likes Buck. Mine used to joke that he likes it bc it rhymes with a certain expletive. 🙄
@kvh22 yes Olivia is just so darn pretty, I don't care how popular it is I love it.
@msb615 he picked Deacon because he loves the movie Blade, but I love that you don't hear it often. I like @stringofhearts idea of Owen Robert! Write that one down!
@misskimsue Boooo! Maybe he'll come around...you could always wait until after the baby is born and you've gone through labor. He's probably way less likely to argue at that point
@haboobjob Emmeline is really cute. I do like that! My Granny is named Carol, so that’s why I’m wanting to have Caroline as either a first or middle name if we have a girl. Emma Francis was one of my great grandmothers, so that’s where that came from. There’s pretty slim pickings with the women names in my family. Haha
I love your boy names by the way! Hudson has been one we’ve tossed around some too. My great grandfather was William, so I’ve also thought about that and using the nickname Liam, but husband said we should just name him Liam if that’s what we’d call him. 🤷🏼♀️ Boy names are hard!
@stringofhearts kind of glad I'm not the only one. I felt so certain of my son's name, but nothing is like that for me this time. Maybe when we know what we're having it'll come to us more easily. And that's funny about your husband. My husband just genuinely thinks Buck with our last name is a "badass name." 🙄 He's wrong. It's not at all.
@brie_and_almonds I agree with your analysis. I still do think it's a great name, but it looks like I won't be using it!
@secicc12 He gave me a pretty hard no! Usually when I suggest French names, he just says, "That sounds old." For some reason he was violently opposed to Genevieve, though. Something about it's inextricably linked to a celebrity named Genevieve de Fontenay. I would have thought she was a porn star given how he reacted, but whatever!
@mcewen3 My husband is French. I hope you have better luck getting your SO to agree on French names than I do!
@misskimsue he's totally not on board with French names, lol. We have always had the HARDEST time agreeing on names so I usually go in armed with many and hope to hell we can agree on at least a couple of them. We may be moving to the Netherlands for his job in the next little while and since my family is also dutch, I was hoping to use a dutch name but I think I'll have even worse luck with those than French names.
@misskimsue You'd think with him being French, he'd prefer the French names! My husband suggested Margaux last time. Literally because of the wine (chateau margaux)
I've been hoping a thread like this would start soon! For a boy, we're thinking either Brendan or Jack, but DH wants the middle name to be Daniel, so I think that effectively rules out the first name Jack.
For a girl, I love Juliet, but DH seems lukewarm on that.
We've sort of put name discussions on hold until we know what we're having. We didn't have much common ground so I guess that's for the best.
DD born PPROM preemie at 36 weeks on 10/1/17 after over a year TI, then 3 failed IUIs, and finally a successful IVF FET.
Due with #2 5/2/19 after HIO once in my FW, because apparently that's how life works now. Team Blue!
@msb615We have a last name that commonly used as a first or middle name so I feel like it can be a little harder with boys names. I guess we could look at some family names but the ones I'm not totally into the ones I've seen. I'm pretty sure everyone in my husband's family is named Larry and I don't want to name my son Larry
We have 2 girls so I feel like I've used up all the girl names I wanted but obviously if this little nugget is a girl, we're going to have to come up with something. I'm pretty sure my husband will 100% veto Willow. Oh well, we have a long time to decide.
@haboobjob Haha, my uncle is a Larry! I couldn’t see naming a baby that either. Our last name ends with the “e” sound, so I feel like that knocks out some names too. My husband likes Lily (after his grandmother), but with the “e” sound in our last name, it seems too rhyme-y for me. Funny enough, her last name was the same as ours, so I feel a little silly saying that. 🤷🏼♀️ I like Willow a lot! My husband would probably veto that too though.
@mrsdee15 I am very biased because my son's name is Brendan, but FWIW I think Brendan Daniel sounds great! Not only is the original famous namesake (St Brendan the Navigator) a pretty interesting character, his feast day is in May!
I have four girls! No boys. I kind of think this one may be a boy... but I’ve been wrong before. I’m pushing Margaret (glad to see it’s not been mentioned yet) and we could call her Maggie. Our biggest problem is my mom has made it very clear that if we have another girl she would be hurt if we didn’t name this one after her. Linda Sue. Not my fav by far. Certainly not my husbands. I’ve been trying for Margaret Malinda or Maggie Sue, or Maggie Suzanna.
Because we have four girls a boy name is easy. Robert Henry. To be called Henry.
@mommaexpecting I may be a bit partial, but I love Maggie (I'm a Margaret as well). People used to serenade me often as "Maggie Sue" when I was a little girl. So sweet and not overly common.
For a girl: It will most likely be Lillian Hazel (Hazel was my grandmother's middle name, she hated it but I love it). I also really like the name Taryn.
For a boy: Boy's names are so hard. My DH really likes Ethan, which I like but not totally in love with. He also likes Patrick after his father and grandfather, I don't like this name due to the nicknames associated with it and his cousin just used it for his baby. I really like Benjamin, because I love the nickname Benny, DH is not sold on that name and plus my cousin just named his baby Benjamin. I also really like the name Connor.
We haven’t really even started discussing names. We already have a boy (Gavin) and a girl (Harper) so I feel like we’ve used up the best names and I don’t know how we’ll possibly agree this time around. If I didn’t need DH’s input, I would name a girl Nora and a boy Owen. It seems like every name I love for boys sound rhymey with DS. (Ex: Gavin and Evan, Gavin and Owen, Gavin and Ethan). The other boy name I would really consider I think would be Henry, but then that would mean new baby and DD both start with H and DS1 would be the one with a different letter. Ugh
@DuchessOfCambridge@bumbly_b Odette is such a beautiful and under-used name! My friend named her daughter Odette and it fits her so well. Totally agree with @secicc12, you don't need to be French to use a great French name!
I think we're finally narrowing in on a boys' name: Jax Owen or Jax Roger (Owen and Roger are my and DH's grandfathers' names). I'd like to have Jax Owen simply because DS's middle name is DH's dad's name and I'd like to advocate for my side of the family. The only problem then is baby would have the initials JOB which could lead to all sorts of issues in a future middle/high school setting. So, I'm betting Jax Roger will win out should we go for it. We're still sticking with Freya Kathryn for a girl.

For the record, having your initials be JOB doesn't seem that big of a deal. As long as it's not ASS or something, I don't think it would really come up enough to warrant not using a name you love. I knew many of my friends' middle names in school, but never really thought about their initials unless they purposely used them. Kids will always find something silly to tease one another about, even if their name seems totally innocuous.
I’m just worried about kids nicknaming him blow or something. As a middle school teacher, I’ve heard worse. I guess it’s all about supporting your child and helping them learn how to handle bullying in a safe way for all involved. Just maternal overthinking! Thanks for the support, @brie_and_almonds
I've always loved Sophia or Isabella way back when I was a kid. One of my friends just named her baby Isabella but have already referred to her as Isa. I want my girl name to be super feminine and my boy name to be strong, though I've always liked Paul (Paulie for his childhood years). So confused! I don't think I'm gonna bother to look too much into it until after the gender is confirmed.
Fiance's father Lawrence suggested Loretta for a girl - reminds me of Cher in Moonstruck, lol. I love that name for an adult, but it's weird to look at a baby and call her Loretta, although Lori is cute.
You all should check out the BabyName app. It’s like tinder for baby names. You and your partner can swipe the names you like and it will alert you if you both match a liked name. It’s pretty cool. There aren’t a huge selection of names unless you pay, but it’s fun and helps you get ideas

I've used that. My husband is an ass and literally doesn't like any girl name at all. So hes set in stone on the name he wants. Its a good thing we aren't trying for 4 kids.

So many people love the name Genevieve! I'm surprised because it wasn't even on our radar at all until recently! One of our favorite names, Evelyn Rose, was used by my cousin about a month ago. We were heartbroken, but we were looking at names that give the nickname Evie and that's how we came up with Genevieve. Our tentative names for girls are Genevieve Rose, Adaline Mckenzie, Vanessa Mckenzie. For boys Samuel Richard, Jeremiah Alexander, Grant Alexander. But I'm not really sure about Jeremiah anymore, it's a lot of syllables. Husband already told one of his sisters our names, which I wasnt very happy about, especially since his other sister is due the day after me. God help us if she takes one of our names...
@msb615@peachy13 Part of me just wants to use it anyways. I'm sure the popularity will die down in a few years!
My 5y/o DD is Charlotte. I chose it back in 2012 when it wasn't very popular (in part BECAUSE it wasn't very popular) Then after she was born Princess Kate named her daughter Charlotte and it EXPLODED in popularity 😭😭
@sagems10 I feel your pain. My sister used the name Theodore nn Theo, which was one of only a couple boys’ names I actually like (although I would nn Teddy). I’ll be bummed about that if we end up with a boy this time. Dd2 is Adeline, although she told us she wants to be called Addy. 😊
Every time I see the name "Adeline" I can't decide how it's pronounced. Is it like "Add a Lynn" or "Add a Line"? Or something different? "Aid a Leen"? Either way it's definitely a lovely name.
