  • @brie_and_almonds we pronounce it with a soft i, so the ending sounds like -lynn. I liked the spelling Adeline best. Now that she goes by Addy it’s somewhat irrelevant. 😆
@sagems10 have you considered Evangeline? That could be nicknamed Evie too.
  • @mrskoz428 i saw and thought the same thing! I'm speculating that she's due in April if she's announcing now, so chances are, this baby will be born before ours. My baby names aren't exactly "royal" so I'm not too worried, but I feel like Harry and Megan could totally have a wildcard, non traditional name.

  • @mrskoz428 Ha I literally said that same exact thing in the randoms thread. Hope no one likes the name they're going to use!

  • Did the name George actually increase a lot in popularity when Kate and Wills named their first kid? Charlotte maybe did, but I'm not so sure about George... I think it will depend a lot on what name they pick and whether it fits with today's current trends. Whether or not the name suddenly get super popular, we might be accused of naming the kid after their kid if we do end up picking the same name...

  • @k2k2tog I was thinking the same thing. I really don't think anyone liked George much more than they did before lol.
  • @k2k2tog oh yes. I remember reading stories of babies being unnamed for days after their birth because people wanted to wait until Kate and Will released the name. This might be UK specific, but I mean, the whole world kind of has a big interest in everything the royal family does.

"George was ranked 10th in popularity in 2013, the year the Duke and Duchess' first child was born. The following year it climbed to seventh place, then fourth, and is currently in third position. Meanwhile, Charlotte jumped from 25th place in 2015 - the year Princess Charlotte was born - to 12th in 2016."

  • @k2k2tog Good point. I personally don't know any Georges. I secretly hope Meghan picks some weird, trendy name with no connection to the royal family just to throw everyone into a tizzy.

  • Wow @peachy13, good find! They got those out fast. James was one of our favorites for a boy...might have to rethink that now.
  • @peachy13 Aww Alice would be so cute! Albert or Alfred.... yikes not my favorites haha.

  • @peachy13 ah, I didn't think about the popularity in the UK... In the US, it jumped 24 points to #134, according to BabyCenter, which is a decent jump, but still not crazy.

  • @peachy13 I mean, I'm pretty partial to Rachel, I'd be on board for them naming a girl that! 😜

  • I hope they don’t pick Arthur! It’s one of our top boys names. Well if we have another girl it won’t matter because our girls name are so very not royal, haha. If by some chance we chose the same name though, I don’t think we would change our name choice.

  • Do these "royals" usually announce the sex in advance? I really hope they aren't going to use a certain name because if they did I would not want to use it anymore and that would really suck. There aren't that many names I even like.
  • I wonder if they wouldn’t go with Rachel since her character on Suits was Rachel and they’d get tons of people thinking that was a reference to that?

  • @DuchessOfCambridge I forgot until just now with your comment that her name ISN'T Rachel.

  • @peachy13 I love the name Alice, think it would be sooooo cute for a baby/toddler girl. But very close family members are Alison and Ali, so it's too similar to use.
  • Alice is my daughters middle name 😊. And Eleanor is my top pick if we have another girl. No idea on boys names though.
  • The only name I like from those lists is James but I don't love it so doubt we'll use it.

DD's name is very popular but I love it and don't care (not on that list, thankfully). I like classic names. She has a nickname which should help. My local mom's group had multiple Eleanors (and Claires) as did my BMB. One other person in my BMB had a daughter with the same name as DD. I had/have a mildly popular name growing up (lots of ways to spell it) and everyone went by the nicknames for it, so I never had to have the last initial. I'm hoping the opposite is true for DD, as I don't hear people use the nickname very often.

  • @thebobloblaw Those are two of my top names!  As well as Arthur.  I think Alice came up as one they were speculating Kate would use also, I wonder why it's coming up so often?

I think classic names are just making a comeback. I tend to sway towards them anyways so it kind of sucks that they are becoming more popular lol. My daughter is Audrey Alice and I love it. SO picked Alice after his grandmother, it took me a while to warm up to it.
  • My son spent months insisting he had a sister named Alice. I have NO idea where he got it from, but we did consider it. I also really like Arthur. But we most likely won't use either name.
  • @thebobloblaw I love Audrey Alice! I would consider stealing it, but the only Audrey I knew IRL was a bit of a hoe in high school, so I'll leave it, haha. (No offense meant towards you and yours, of course!)
  • @thebobloblaw Classic names are definitely coming back - I have three friends who named their daughters Evelyn in the last few years.  Audrey Alice is a LOVELY name!  When I looked at names on one of the sites, the same recommended/similar name kept coming up again and again: Charlotte, another royal baby name.

  • So I used the BabyName app (Tinder for baby names) when we had DD and everything was free. Now they want you to pay for a whole bunch of things. It's not as good anymore. :( I think I'll just go back to perusing Baby Name Wizard's website...

@DuchessOfCambridge @mrsdee15 Meghan's legal first name is actually Rachel so I don't see her naming the baby after herself lol.

  • @poshspice I paid the $1.99 and I've gone through all 2000+ names and still am no closer to deciding on a name 😂
  • Can I just not name this one?

  • DD's name (Amelia) was sort of an "ah-ha" moment for us, so I'm hoping that will happen again for this baby.

Girl contenders are: Evie (DH's choice, which I like better as a nickname), Evelyn, Miriam, Rosemary (which he has nixed, but I'm holding out), Abigail. All would likely pair with Helen (DH's grandmother) for a middle name.

Boys are: Abraham, Isaac, James, Jack (DD's favorite-though she doesn't know about baby yet), Easton, Truett, Lawson, and Abel. I'm hoping to pair this with Jerry as a middle name for my big brother.

I have an Abraham! We call him Abe. I never hear of other Abrahams 💗
  • @psychobutthead that's actually genius 😂
  • @mrsdee15 Charlotte was actually my top name for my daughter but got vetoed by SO. I’ve always wanted a girl named Charlie, but would have a hard time making that a legal name.

@liliumstargazer13 that’s hilarious! It sucks that real life people have to ruin names for us!
  • @DuchessOfCambridge she legitimately asked that???  I would have lost it.

My mom asked if she and my dad could name the new baby

    😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 <—that’s how funny I found it

My probable csection, my naming rights, K THANKS
Wow. That is hilarious and delusional. I have so many questions... Did they not get to name you? Do you have siblings that they also named? I'm so picky with names that we kept even contenders secret for fear someone would say something ridiculous and ruin a name we liked. That didn't stop my mom and MIL from making suggestions, but the fantasy that you would just say "Okay Mom, sure, I got the last one, this one can be your turn" is comical.

  • @DuchessOfCambridge wow. The nerve. Like they haven't already gotten to name their own kids. 🙄 My mom makes suggestions but I would laugh in her face if she ever asked to name our baby.
