@mschill22 This little girl will be a Teagan (maybe Rose for my aunt for a middle name) if I have my way! DH still doesn’t want to know the gender so not really worth it to discuss names just yet - plus probably we’re still kind of traumatized/scared. I’ve been stuck on Teagan for almost two years since I learned (and DH didn’t want to know them either) that our first pregnancy was with a little girl (*TW* lost 2 days after she found out she was a NIPT “normal” girl). DH is half Welsh and we have a T last name (and I’m a dork and like the alliteration ).

@LLynde5 Love Hadley! It was one of my faves that I could never get my husband on board with for a girl. I also adore Hazel (it might help that my friend's absolutely adorable little 2 year old has that name.) Hmm, trying to think of other H names others haven't suggested yet. Maybe it's too 80's, but Heather? I also really love Harriet with the nickname Hattie but I get how others might think it's too old fashioned.
AFM, we have officially decided on a final four to bring with us to the hospital and I really like all of them! My husband says I get to choose, which is exciting (and also a lot of pressure.) As I said before, we'll probably just wait to see which name suits the baby after he's born but this is our final four!
William Fox Fox William Christopher Fox (nickname Kit) Kit William (just going for the name we would call him all the time anyway)
I feel so relieved to have a final set of names to bring to the hospital and feel like I'll be happy with any of them.
@maureenmce Just realizing now that a kit is actually one name for a fox cub, which means whichever direction you end up going, then, you'll end up with a little Fox
we've had our first names picked out since early but we're still struggling with middle names and i'd LOVE some input from all you brilliant ladies!
If it's a boy: Henry (we'll call him Hank); if it's a girl: Beatrice (Bea, for short).
Both of these are family names that we both love so it was easy but we're not sure which direction to go in with middles. I'm really torn on whether to go modern to balance the classic first names, or stick with classic to match. We have a long last name (ends in -ski) so we want to be careful not to burden our kid with anything complicated or cumbersome.
@mko_ I think as long as you don't do too modern (as in something really funky) it would sound okay. My brain isn't working so I have no examples or suggestions lol. I'm partial to classic names myself.
Well Coraline is definitely her first name, now I just need to find a middle name I love! I really liked the name Maeve but my cousin just used it on her baby’s first name, so now I’m back to square 1. So far my list is all over the place and includes Sage, Mae, Lucille, Louise and Harlow. Last name starts with an F so trying to avoid names that start with an F but I do like Faye as well.
@mko_ We've done family names as well; for us, rather than focusing on matching first and middle, we just took a name from the other side of the family (whether that's a first, middle, or even surname for someone you admired). I feel like other than when we initially told folks, nobody has cared about her middle name, and people judged more on the fact that she was named after two grandmothers than whether or not the names flowed together melodically or not. She might care eventually (the name we've saddled her with makes her sound like she's destined to join a convent, and we're not even a little bit religious), but how often are you actually obligated to use/disclose your middle name anyway?
@misscheapandchic I love the name Coraline! I think Coraline Mae is my favorite of the middle names you suggested, since it's related to Maeve and I like shorter/less syllable middle names with longer/more syllable first names.
Me: 33, DH: 41 Started IF Feb. 2014 PCOS & MFI (low sperm count and motility) 3 Femara cycles w/natural intercourse over summer 2014, BFN 1 Clomid cycle w/natural intercourse Nov. 2014, BFN IUI March 2015, BFN IUI June 2015, BFN IUI Oct. 2015, BFN IVF Oct. 2016, fresh transfer, 2 day-3 embryos, BFN; nothing to freeze IVF Nov. 2017, fresh transfer, 2 day-5 blasts, BFP; ectopic; 1 blast frozen FET March 2018, 1 day-5 blast, BFP!
@misscheapandchic I LOVE the name Lucille!! I don't like it paired with Coraline though. From your list I like either Coraline Mae or Coraline Sage. Or I like Faye too, but I know you said that's something you're wanting to avoid because of last name starting with F.
@misscheapandchic LOVE Coraline! And I love a lot of your middle name ideas, but think maybe a one syllable one fits really well with a longer first? Are you sure you can't use Maeve as a middle even with the family connection? It's stunning! Alternative wise, what about:
Coraline Jane Coraline June Coraline Eve Coraline Tess Coraline Wren Coraline Pearl
@maddynietz Recommend editing your post to remove the last name. These forums are entirely visible to anybody on the internet and it’s wise to not put your baby’s entire name out there for the creeps.

I choose not to take my husbands last name and probably never will. I have worked really hard and have an established career with my own last name and love my Italian heritage. Plus some other personal reasons I won’t get into. ANYWAYS - Are any of you in my position or not in my position but are considering giving your child’s middle name your last name?

I've considered it, but never seriously enough to bring it up with DH. But my maiden name is a little odd, and doesn't lend itself well to that, IMO. And anyway, we spend enough time with my side of the family that my DD, who's 6 yo, thinks her full name is <FIRST> <MIDDLE> <LAST> <MY MAIDEN>. It's not a notion I've discouraged as much as I should have.
@lagoose23 same. I didn't take my husband’s last name for primarily professional reasons, and with our first child we used my last name as a middle name. We’ll do the same thing again this time.
@lagoose23 Same situation here, and yes, we gave our son my last name as his middle name and will do the same for our next baby. It’s actually a good idea to have your last name included somewhere in the formal name. My sister also kept her last name and on a few flights she has been stopped for traveling with her kids who have her husband’s last name. But because her last name was the middle, it was easy to settle the concerns once they looked at the passports.
@lagoose23 I’ll be the counter that will not be giving LO my maiden as their middle, largely because Rodriguez is a bit...clunky. Plus I’ve only ever seen it as a surname. (FWIW LO and I will have matching names with DH because I like it - and never felt strongly about my maiden - so it was easy for me to change)

@lagoose23 I did not take my husband's name and don't intend to. Like others, we are planning on giving my last name as a middle name and using my husband's as a last name. I am attached to my name too and want the baby to have it in there somewhere!
@lagoose23 My husband and I actually combined our names into a new last name when we got married. It's not for everyone, bit it sounded miles better than the potential hyphenate, and it felt to me like we were both sacrificing and creating something new, which I liked! Also, it's cool that everyone in the family will have the same last name, but it's one we created. (I swear the last name is not weird, it sounds like a normal Irish name.)
@maureenmce I love that you combined your last names. I would have pushed for that if there had been a reasonable combination of names possible, but all combinations were ridiculous.
@maureenmce That's awesome! My sister and her husband said that they were going to make a new surname, but they haven't...it's been about five years and now I'm afraid that they won't follow through now.

@kadeephd We got very lucky, in that our names were super easy to combine. I have a very traditional Irish maiden name and we just kept the Mc and paired it with his very short British last name, so it worked easily. I had several other friends try to make it work but it's tough to find easy to combine names!
@echo-charlietango Honestly, it can be kind of a pain in the ass to do, depending on where you live! It took us over a year and $1000 to get it legal through the courts in CA! Maybe they got put off by the process? I wish it were much easier to do! Maybe in the future!
So I think we've decided on a boys name. I wasn't 100% sold on the first name originally, but it's growing on me and I can't think of baby without thinking this name, so I doubt it'll change lol. We'll be naming this little boy Vincent Lee. The middle name honors both our fathers, my dad's middle name is Lee and FILs middle name is Leon. Vincent is just a name we like. My mom says it's too Italian but whatevs, we've already got an Anthony! Now we'll have Vinny and Tony though DS1 is never actually called Tony, he's just Anthony. This baby will most likely just go by Vincent, maybe Vin or Vince if those fit him better, I don't typically pick a name with the plan to call him a nickname all the time anyways, so I doubt I'll call him anything other than Vincent.
@CecilB93 Very cute! I agree, Vincent doesn’t automatically scream Italian to me. Vinny and Tony...yeah a little bit. But not so much Vince or even Anthony. But it’s definitely a great name either way.
@CecilB93 I love the name! I come from an Italian family and don’t actually think it too Italian because it’s not an Italian spelling. There are at least four variations that the name Vincent can come from in Italian. My grandfather was a Vincenzo. In means something about being a Roman conquer. Our families village is about an hour south of Roman. My favorite cousin is a Vincent and in our family it was kinda a joke that he was given an English name. He goes by Vin with friends, Vinny with family (he has no choice). The male names in our family are very Italian forward or biblical. Marco, Santino (Santo), Luciano, Francesco (Frank), Joseph, David (never called Dave) etc.
Re: Last names I did not taken my husband’s last name but have given our DD and now this ones DH’s. When it comes to traveling, in addition to DD’s passport we also carry a copy of her birth certificate. We have never had a problem but it has crossed my mind that my name doesn’t match hers. The birth certificate is all you need for traveling with in the US and your maiden name is on that.
Thanks everyone! It really doesn't even bother me if it is "too Italian", my DHs great great (I think?) grandfather immigrated from Italy in the early 1900's, so not all that long ago really. So an Italian name isn't out of place anyways considering his family history.
My husband is a IV but a V just seems like too many...it's confusing to reference the name and know who you are talking about! Instead thinking of honoring the name by using Marshall as a middle. Torn on first names though...last name starts with D.
Elliot Marshall Luke Marshall Elijah "eli" Marshall Thoughts? I love them all!
Names are so hard! Before we found out we are having a boy we had decided on "Walter" but now that we know it is a boy we just can't seem to commit!
My current list:
Walter Cole Charles Henry Davis Arthur Max
Everytime I feel like I have a favourite it just seems so permanent. DH thinks we should wait until he is born and decide in the moment but I am such a planner that I can't stop obsessing over it. And of course... then my list keeps growing rather than shrinking LOL
We had a definite boy name picked, so of course we’re having a girl lol We can’t agree on any names. My front runner is still Sloane. DH says it’s growing on him... “like a fungus. Like a mushroom, so a good fungus”, but nonetheless.
Here are the ones we kinda like so far...
Sloane Parker Delaney
And after reading and catching up on this thread I’m thinking of maybe a more traditional name because I don’t want her name to “date” her or tell her age. So I’m also considering Elizabeth (my middle name) or Katherine.
Can i get y'alls opinion on our little boy's name please?
Vaden Konnor or Konnor Vaden
Vaden was my recently deceased mother's maiden name and so far its the only way I've found that i like to incorporate her name into his. She had very feminine names.
