Re: Names

  • @mamajudec2018 I love this, thanks for sharing :) The more I think about it, the more I LOVE Hayes! I just worry that people will think it's a family name...it's not, we just like it. I also need to remember that it doesn't matter at all what people think!
  • Loading the player...
  • @bumpitup I agree that it's good to remember that it doesn't matter what people think! People have such different opinions on things that no matter what you pick someone will unfortunately not like the name quite as much as you. But it's your baby and you get to pick!
  • If it’s a boy, we are leaning towards Eli. Part of me is worried that that is not long enough, though, especially because we have a one syllable last name. I am debating if we should choose Elliot and use Eli as a nickname.  We want to use either Thomas or Jeffrey as the middle name since they are both family names. Any thoughts?
    Eli Thomas
    Eli Jeffrey
    Elliot Thomas
    Elliot Jeffrey
  • @katy0990 I lean towards Elliot because he can choose to shorten it to Eli if he wants.  If you name him just Eli, he is stuck with just that.  I like both middle names
  • @katy0990 I really like Eli Thomas!
  • Please no judgement on first name we are leaning toward. I know it's unisex.

I'm wondering if anyone has any feminine middle name options that go well with the first name Parker?
  • I love the name Elliott, but I also feel since Eli is two syllables, it would be fine with a short last name.  Also a sucker for the name Thomas!

  • @kristah2 my DD name is unisex, and all four of her cousins have unisex names (Austyn, Emerson, Tanner and Laine, all girls :) )
I like Parker Elizabeth, and Parker Marie
  • @katy0990 I think both Eli and Elliot are great names! If you like Eli, then I would totally go with that. I like Eli Thomas.

@kristah2 Parker is a great name! Some middle name options may be Rose, Mae, or Michelle. I also like @Jens_Hoes suggestion of Parker Elizabeth!

  • @kristah2 I love Parker for a girl! What is your middle name? I feel like it would work with so many names.
    Parker Jane
    Parker Marie
    Parker Kate
    Parker Grace
  • @katy0990 Elias is a family name on my dad's side, half of the guys are named Elias. Some go by the full Elias, others use the shorter Eli.

@kristah2 I know a Lia Parker, but no first-name Parkers  besides the actress Parker Posey.
@mag1cbeli3ver When I learn that someone's middle name is Mae, I make it a point to say things like "Parker Mae? Parker may be the coolest kid" (or whatever descriptors I feel like using that moment).

  • @kristah2 I like Parker Kate! I think I have heard it somewhere before so maybe that’s why it sounds so good together to me. But I think Parker is super cute.

We are completely stuck on a name. We have opposite taste and cannot agree. We were leaning heavily toward Molly but then I realized it’s way too similar to what we call DD 90% of the time (Millie). This child shall be nameless.

  • @rosebud332 I thought I’d sounded familiar, too. I think it’s one of the quints from Out daughtered.
  • @katy0990 Yes! That must be it.

What do you guys think of Imogen (pronounced Imo-gin not Imo-jean)? Is it too out there? Thinking of pairing it with Hope or Lee.

Also on the table are Valerie and mayyyybe Julia (but I don’t like Julie).

  • @rosebud332 I like Julia and I know a Julia who has always gone by that. I have neveer heard anyone call her Julie. Imogen is a bit out there for me personally.
  • hkomhkom member
@rosebud332 I have a cousin named Julia and no one calls her Julie that I'm aware of.

I don't dislike Imogen, but it automatically makes me think of either Imhotep from The Mummy (I don't even know)  Or Imogen Heap, who I know is a singer (?) But literally the only other time I've heard the name.

  • @rosebud332 I'd never heard of the name Imogen until I watched The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.  I liked it as soon as I heard it, though the pronunciation on the show is imo-jean.  It might be a bit hard for people to pronounce if that matters to you.

  • @hkom Yes I like that one Imogen Heap song (don’t ask me what it’s called! Lol) I think the first time I heard it and liked it was this movie with Julia Stiles and Freddie Prinz Jr. I think it was called Down to You or something like that.

  • @katy0990 I love elliot Thomas!
  • I like Imogen. But I also like Imogen Heap.
She was also a character on a tv show I saw.
I don't LOVE Hope with it thought because it makes me think of "Imagine Hope" (just my opinion and I'm weird) but I do like Imogen Lee!
  • @rosebud332 I love the name Imogen. It was actually my husband's great grandma's name and on our list before we found out we are having another boy.

Thoughts on the name Victor? It's my husband's first choice and there is a lot of significant meaning behind it. I just get the vision of a 2 year old boy with a mustache for some reason. DS 1 is named Otto, for reference.
  • We only got as far as a middle name for a boy, which was Douglas. We decided on our little girls name of Maeve Ann. Ann is a family name on both sides and we just really like Maeve

  • @rosebud332 I like Imogen. That one may have been on my list before we found out le bebe's sex.

@rocketmom88 I'm neutral about Victor - I think my dad has a cousin with that name, but that's it for actual humans. Otherwise I do think of a character from Futurama but that isn't a negative association (he's a car salesman). I'm all for names with significant meanings! Our kid will be named after philosophers & explorers, because that's the significance that we're into.

  • @rocketmom88 I also picture someone older with a mustache when I hear Victor. Could you use it as a middle name, if you are on the fence?
  • @rocketmom88 also neutral about Victor but my first association is Victor Frankenstein. For whatever it's worth...   :D

    @kirstey728 love maeve ann!

@echo-charlietango MH and I were talking about philosophers and now Soren is on the list somewhere.
  • I love Imogen! Very Shakespearean.

We've been firm on our name this whole time, and the entire decision process took exactly 5 minutes (and it only took that long because we were discussing via IM and I had to pause to find my gate and grab my coffee). So of course now Hurricane Florence is threatening to be among the worst storms to hit the Carolinas since Hugo (which I was in Charleston for, and remember well, even though I was still pretty little). Still holding firm to Marion Florence for now, but there's an outside chance we may have to reevaluate that middle name.
  • @AGK2015 You could spin it that she will be a force to be reckoned with.
  • @katy0990 oh definitely. I think it'll ultimately depend on how bad things turn out. If we're talking Katrina or Maria style devastation and casualties, we'll retire it (for this year, at least). If it's mostly just property damage and it doesn't look like large numbers of people are going to be displaced indefinitely or whatever, then we're golden.
  • @AGK2015 I love Marion Florence

  • @kristah2 Parker was on our short list for a girl, I LOVE it! Parker Elizabeth sounds nice! I can't for the lie of me remember what we were considering pairing it with.

@rosebud332 I like Julia, but I may be partial because that's my name lol! FWIW, growing up people did sometimes call me Julie, but I politely corrected them. It doesn't happen so much anymore, I think because the name Julie doesn't seem to be as popular as it was when I was younger.

I don't like it, but it would probably grow on me. It falls in that "too unique" category that I'm not a fan of.
    Would it sound like 1) Avon-Lee, 2) Avon-leia (like Princess Leia), 3) Ahh-Von-Lee, or 4) Ahh-Von-Leia?

But! @katy0990, we are also Team Elliot! Elliot Francis over here. Woohoo!

  • @rcultrona Sorry, but I’m not a fan.
  • @rcultrona Also not a fan of Avonlea.  Do you like Avalon?

    Names are so hard.

  • @rcultrona Why not go with two separate names (first and middle) Avon Lee? Or Avon Leigh?  Something easier to pronounce and not butcher.   Or I love @kadeephd 's suggestion of Avalon.  But ultimately if you love the name it's up to you!
  • @rcultrona I actually love Avonlea! One of my friends named her daughter Avonlea (pronounced Avon-Lee) and I think it's so pretty! It is unique, but I also think it has a very classic feel to it.
