Baby names!

Re: Baby names!

  • @mrsmartinez16 - Maybe a family name for a middle name?  Then instead of honoring your DH’s naming traditions, you are honoring your family?

(Blast’s middle name is a family name from my mother’s side, so xe will have names from both families.)
I'd love to do this, but tbh my family have some pretty terrible Cuban names I'd rather not pass down lol. At least the men do. I'm figuring that 6 months of nagging will get him to cave.

  • @hannah8516 Honestly, as petty as it is, for some reason...I think I'll be irrationally upset if someone on this board decides to name their kiddo what my husband and I have picked out  :D

    Fortunately, that hasn't happened...yet.
  • @sliztee Same. I already saw one person say they were using the same first name. I was slightly salty  :D
  • @missmaehurt The worst part is I'm bringing this disappointment on myself by even reading the stupid thread at all. Glutton for punishment, I guess.
  • @sliztee & @missmaehurt  - All the more reason not to share what I’m thinking about using.   :D

I love talking names generally, and other can do what they want on sharing, but I’m unlikely to share specifics.

Agreed. I don't think I'll be sharing until after baby is born.

This is great, I so agree with you ladies, DH and I shared a few name ideas with a couple friends and one of his friends flat out said he hated the name choices... DH was pissed because we weren't very fond of what they chose for their daughter but we would NEVER say that to them it's rude af. And we got a mixed reaction from his parents as well, they also can't bite their tounge if they don't like something (I literally don't care what they think it'll be my child so we get to name her/him but they seem to persuade DH rather easily..)  so we both agreed we wouldn't be telling anyone else about out name choices anymore because it's not fair to us to listen to others negative opinions on names we love.
I also check so see if what I have picked has been mentioned and so far not yet lol not that'd I'd get super salty over it but I'd be a little surprised I guess, which is weird because they aren't outlandish names just a little different apparently
  • We have a huge list that I have shared with some of my friends to get their opinions/ thoughts. Especially since our last name is so difficult to pair with. It has helped eliminate some. Once we find out the sex we will discuss and choose a name, but won't be sharing it.

I talked to my Mom very specifically about Blast’s middle name, because I was considering using her maiden name.  She was very vehemently against doing so, which genuinely surprised me.  However, she understood what I was trying to do, and helped me to find a name from her side of the family that we both liked.  (She actually wanted me to use a name from my Dad’s side of the family, which I love, but I wanted to honor both of my parents.)

That said, while I am occasionally discussing some of the names on my short list with her and a couple of close friends, those names are not as personal, so most of those discussions are pretty generic too.
  • @nmadjeski - I like the name Emerson too, but I makes me think of radios!

However, that name is also one (like Whitney, Harley, and Alexa) that I feel like once baby is here, the kid will own as their own.   (FYI - Pratt & Whitney is an airplane engine manufacturer)

However, one of my favorite names for boy or girl is one I can’t do because when paired with my last name is one letter off from a famous actor.  I love the actor, but just can’t do that to my kid.
  • @knottieamusements That's how I feel. I dont think when they meet my child they are going to associate her with radios or air conditioners or anything like that.

And I agree about the celebrity thing. I wouldn't be able to do it either! Lol
  • Omg my sister is Alex too!!!
  • That's really cool!
  • Ok I’m annoyed and I feel dumb. I was 100% on our baby name and I just found out I was spelling it wrong. I thought it was Issac and apparently it’s supposed to be Isaac, and the double “a” annoys me for some reason, so now I’m second guessing and thinking we might change it. I thought we were done with this and I’m super pissed to have to open this can of worms back up.

  • @mytrueloves Virtue Names! They would give their kids names that were qualities they hoped they would have.

  • @DunkinDecaf - Both spellings are valid and have been around forever, but the double A spelling is a lot more common.

Spell it the way you want to spell it.

  • @mytrueloves I found out that a family name is Pleasant. Wonder what kind of virtue they were hoping for....
  • I agree with spelling it Issac if you want, that's a version I'm more familiar with anyway.
  • @DunkinDecaf that was funny! SS is named Otto. When I voice-to-text I often get "Auto".

@DunkinDecaf I have a cousin who’s name is spelled Issac. He goes by Zeek. I prefer ss instead of aa too!
    Edit because auto correct
  • Same here. I've only seen it spelled with the double a, but didn't even realize it when you spelled it with a  double s. I'd say spell it how you'd like!
  • I feel like such a dumbass! Totally thought Issac was the normal spelling. Also both kids are referring to him as Iss/aac now so although we could change the name, I’d rather not. I really wish the double a thing didn’t bother me so much. I guess we’ll give it a week and see if it still annoys me.

  • Re: Dick Palmer

You know that guy knows exactly what he is doing going by Dick...
I’m sure he gets it all the time, but my poor boss.  He kept telling the guy “yeah right did xx put you up to this” and refused to believe the guy, who also told my boss his company name, which happens to have “Headley” as part of it.  He did say the guy seemed a little resigned to it happening, so we got the impression that it was something he’s been called since childhood and doesn’t like/want to change to his given name, although there are other options for nicknames for Richard.
