@momoflogan20 SO and I have talked about it briefly but nothing seriously. I just tell people we are tossing ideas around but probably won't be sharing until later on. It's worked so far.
We are down to a boy name and a girl name. The boy name is Liam Craig. We have always loved the name Liam and Craig is my dad’s first name. My mother hates the name Liam and has voiced her opinion many times, so this is where I hesitate using the name. Our girl name is Emmeline Lucille. We both love the name Emmeline and we were going to use it for DD, but somebody else used it six weeks before she was born and I got mad. Lucille is DH’s grandmother’s name. DD’s name is Sadie Noelle.
On my DDs BMB there are three Amelias! There is not one other kid with our daughters name which is weird bc there are 85 children and Hannah isn’t that out of the box? I guess I wouldn’t mind if there were another, but I have to say I like not sharing it.
our Boy name has always been Alexander so we will go ahead with that if this one is a boy. Our two girl names right now are either Josephine (Josie) or Ella. I don’t like how popular Ella is but my husband loves it and I do think it’s a pretty name so I haven’t said no. Naming kids is hard yo!
Ooo I love Ella! Girls names haven't been that difficult to come up with, but we've just hit a wall with boys names. My name is Elizabeth, and since it is sooo common, I like to pick names that aren't so popular. I don't like made up names or anything like that, but just not in the top 10 lists. We've talked about Blake and Brock. I tried Roman but DH vetoed that real quick. Blake is pretty popular, so I'm not totally sold on it and DH isn't totally sold on Brock. I'm really hoping we get inspiration sometime before the baby is born!
We were pretty set on the girl name as Madelynn Grace My DH really wants Bruce for a son but I don't like it. He wants to name the baby after his late grandfather, I understand and I am for but maybe as a middle name..
I have told people we can't agree on a name and told them names we have dismissed lol. After hearing the 5th Emma, we vetoed it and are going to go with Zoé. (I am 95% sure lol)
@Laumb11 DH was pushing for Zoe if this LO is a girl. I get hung up on the Zoey vs Zoe and the different accents that go along with them Haha. Beautiful name though
@nasalot188 Yes lol me too, to me without the accent I would say zo, I mean I know it is Zoey.. but phonetically looks like zo to me lol and I dont know why I dont like the ey part. So she will get the acute accent.
If it's a girl is Mary Clare (for my mom and my aunt.) Although I am undecided between Maryclare and Mary Clare. I def want it to be her full name so I am leaning toward one word...but it seems less traditional that way and I am def more traditional when it comes to names (James and Anna are my other two kiddos)
For a boy we are undecided. I really like: Elliot Benjamin
@MissBridg Some thoughts from my side. My sister is Marianne. So many people assume it's spelled Mary Anne. However, she goes by Mari and Marianne pretty regularly. She doesn't have a middle name.
My aunt is Rose Marie (again, no middle name - that's her full first name). My gma is probably the only one who calls her that (because "I named her Rose Marie, not Rose). However, she goes by Rose to EVERYONE else. She's not a huge fan of her full name.
I think if you want her name to be Maryclare, I'd make it one word. Otherwise she may end up going by Mary more often. Although, in the end she may go that way no matter what.
We were able to narrow our long list of names down while on our baby moon. We will then discuss further after we know the sex in two weeks. So far we have the following top contenders. Jamie will be the middle name for all options as it's my husband's late fathers name and his middle name as well. Our last name sounds like Five-e
Boys: Jasper (JJ for short) Finnegan Auden Fraser Huxley
Girls: Willow Victoria (my grandmother name) Dakota Addison Elva
Thoughts?

@MissBridg that's a tough one. Pretty much what @sammierose464 said, though. Our daughter is Annarose because we wanted it to be one name...but even relatives often write it as AnnaRose or Anna Rose. She goes by Rosie anyway, although she writes Annarose on about 1 of every 4 papers at school. We just told her it is her name so she can use whatever she wants, but has to decide on something for the teacher because we will not ask them to go back and forth!
@chyvie I love so many of them! Jasper, Finnegan, and Huxley are my favorite of the boys. And Willow, Victoria and Addison are my favorite of the female.
@MissBridg I have a double name so I can give some input. My name is Laura Beth (first and middle names) but my parents from day 1 have always called me by both names. They only reason they did it separately was to give me a choice when I was older if I didn't like going by both. I hate Laura by itself and I dreaded the first day of school every year when I would have to correct the teacher that I go by both. I also started writing it as one word, Laurabeth, when I was probably 7 or 8 and have been ever since. I have the same issue as @norahkate's daughter that it still gets spelled all kids of different ways but it doesn't bother me too much.
ETA - Long story short, I would do it as one word.
@chyvie that is a great list of names! My favorites are Finnegan, Auden for boys and Dakota, Addison, and Willow for girls. But they're all beautiful!
@missbridge Chiming in on the double names. Mine has a hyphen, and I swore I would never do that to my kids. It's such a PITA because so many systems cannot accept a hyphen, and then if they select a space in place of the hyphen and you enter it all as one word, all the sudden freaking TSA doesn't believe you're the same person. It's crap like that. Spaces by themselves can sometimes cause the same issue because now TSA thinks it's my middle name and my passport doesn't match. I think your kid could go by Mary even if it was Maryclare or something like that, but I've just had the written issues too many times to ever do a space, hyphen, or anything else.
@SweetSweetTooth yes! I do the same thing! If it's too high on the popularity charts, it's out for me. I had been thinking of Lucas too. Would Luca bee weird? I've heard it before and haven't ever decided if I like it or not
@coffee-saur - my son is a Luka (I would have preferred the C, but DH is Scandinavian and liked the K more, and since it was my choice, that was our compromise). I love his name! Luca is not too unusual but also not to common, and I get tons of compliments on it
Ladybug - April 2013 Dandelion - October 2018 Angel "Aurora" - July 2020 Angel "Sawyer" - May 2021 Angel "Maxine" - January 2022 Angel "Violet" - March 2022 Baby Dove due March 2023
Scan in a couple weeks but we've narrowed it down to two boy names and one if it's a girl (not telling anyone until after he/she arrives, so it's a relief to be able to share here!):
Boy: Clark Atlas
Girl: Natalie
I reallllly love Atlas but we're still torn if that's the right way to go. Clark has been on the list for years and DH feels a connection to it. Natalie is a family name so it's extremely special to me.
Question: does anyone find it difficult to use family names, in the offshoot chance either side of the family would be upset? Natalie is from my mother's side (and I had a special relationship with her), but like, would that upset my dad? Pretty sure I'm overthinking this...
@nikimelon Just my opinion, but it's your kid and you get to name him/her whatever you want, so I wouldn't spend much effort overthinking it. Plus, if you did something like a middle name from your dad's side, would your H's family be upset? It's a losing game to try to please everyone unless your kid is going to have five names.
That said, if you're worried and it means something to you to make everybody happy could you take a family name from somewhere else for a middle name? Or work out the initials to line up with somebody?
But if I was in your shoes, I wouldn't worry about it and just pick what you like. It's family and they should be happy and supportive regardless, and it's on them if they can't.
...Apparently I'm super direct today. Sorry...
edit: H and I are the first ones to NOT use any family names, pretty much from either side. I could sense some initial shock value in my mom's voice, but she was nothing but supportive (after some initial gentle curiosity) of our direction and choices and seemingly loved the name we picked. Maybe she's hiding it, but that's good enough for me
This thread is stressing me out more and more! I still have no clue about a boy name!! I'm just not sold on anything. Anatomy scan is next week, so a part of me is hoping it's a girl so I don't have to stress about this anymore. But another part of me is hoping for a boy because we just bought a 3 bedroom house and it would be super helpful if the two younger ones could share a room until E is completely on his own. Ugh!
@krzyriver ugh, same... boys names are so hard, and I still don’t know what we’re going to do. I was hoping for a girl mostly for the easy name, too! Haha
The boy name we thought we liked for the longest time, is now suddenly not sounding good to either of us. But we don't like anything else either. I've gone through thousands of boy names. And not one jumps out to me. Trying not to stress until the anatomy scan to see if we even need to. We have a girl name we both love already.
I’m in the same boat with all of you on the boys names.... why are boy names so hard to pick??? We know it’s a boy, and the best I’ve gotten out of DH for any of my suggestions is “I don’t hate it”. No boy names really jump out to us, and I don’t want to just settle on a name that we don’t hate.
I feel like a jerk. I had a girl name I really liked, Emerson. I mention above in a previous comment that SO absolutely hated it. Now all of a sudden he likes it and I'm not so sure about it anymore! Why does this have to be so hard?!
@chyvie I’m not sure if this will help you at all, but I don’t know how to pronounce Auden. Is it a variation of Aiden? Is it German and pronounced ow-den? Maybe aw-den? Not a big deal if you don’t care, but it may get mispronounced a lot.
@sammierose464 (I think it was you) Luca was on our list before we knew our twins were boys.. and by our list I mean mine. My husband didn’t love it but we also vetoed most of each other’s lists. Boys names are so hard for us. If this one is a boy, I may put Luca back on the list, but my kid’s obsession with Star Wars and how close it is to Lucas makes me hesitate. (Luke was also on the list for a bit and I am so glad we didn’t go with it - the kids would fight over why we named one Luke and not the other one... definitely can’t use that this time.)
@nikimelon DD is Ellen Grace (Ellen is my grandma’s first name, my mom’s middle name, and Grace is my sister’s middle name) and DS is Charles Douglas (Douglas is my FIL’s first name). This baby will be Andrew George (George was my dad’s middle name). We’ve gotten some rude remarks - my cousin is STILL pissed at me, 4 years later, for using Ellen because she had always wanted to use it, and my husband’s aunt (go figure) is mad that we didn’t use DH’s grandma’s name as part of DD’s name. I give zero shits. DH and I both love our kids’ names and that’s really all I care about. You can’t please everyone.
I get where you’re coming from though. I was nervous to use my dad’s middle name for this baby, because my dad passed very unexpectedly two years ago and it was incredibly hard on all of my siblings. I worried that it would upset them all over again or that they would feel like they’ll never be able to look at this baby, but they’re all thrilled that DH and I are choosing to honor him.
@chyvie have you read/watched Outlander? I think doing Fraser Jamie would scream a bit fan girl to those that have. Not that it's not cute, but wanted you to be aware in case you weren't a fan.
I love Auden and this is flows nice with Jamie. A friend named her son Auden last year and it's such a nice strong name.
@beccajean71 we have not thought about how it relates to Jamie Fraser from outlander! I don't think it matters because it would be Fraser Jamie for us. Thanks for pointing that out. If my son turns out as hot as him I'd be happy
@purplegoldfish2 it is pronounced AW-den and it's an English origin name meaning old friend.
Thanks ladies for your thoughts and appreciation of the names. Naming a kid is hard!

@chyvie@beccajean71 One of my nephews is Cullen Edward. My SIL wasn’t too hip on the pop culture. I said “I think it’s my duty as aunt to just let you know that the dude from Twilight is Edward Cullen.” Not that I thought it was a big deal, I just wanted to point it out so she could make an informed decision.
My cousin named her son Chasematthew all one word and he pretty much goes by Chase unless being yelled at but he doesnt have a middle name he's only like 8 or 9 so I'm not sure how he really likes it i don't see him enough to ask/: but he is named that way because his dad is too, Markdaniel, all one name and no middle name either and he usually goes by either Mark or Markdaniel
Re: Baby names!
