Baby names!

Re: Baby names!

  • So I was having a sudden panic about baby names because DF requested we wait until the baby's born to settle on a name from our list, since we're team green, and there's literally only one name on our girl list that I like compared to our entire boy list which I adore. So I made DF talk names with me and we finally settled on a girl name that we both love and that gives me the same warm fuzzy feeling that the boy names give me.

It's Amelia / Emilia but we can't agree which spelling we prefer. Amelia would have the nickname Amy, Emilia would be Emmy or Emma.

    Angel "Sawyer" - May 2021
    Angel "Maxine" - January 2022
    Angel "Violet" - March 2022
    Baby Dove due March 2023

  • I think both are beautiful names. And your short list for birth could always be those two names.

@mytruelove I love the name and @knottieamusements idea of leaving those two for a short list for birth. Seems to be a great combo of DH’s request to wait and your desire to work on the list now. Then you can decide at that time which nickname suits her better, if it’s a girl, and select spelling accordingly.

  • @chopchop25 I love Margot! That was on our list last time. I think pairs perfectly with Ellery as the middle.
  • Thanks for the opinions everyone! I agree, I think it'd be best to decide which spelling at birth.
@chopchop25 I think Margot Ellery is beautiful!

So I don’t really like out original boy name. Now we are strongly considering Jaxson/Jaxon if it’s a boy. I love it but I always said I would never name my child something they would have to spell for everyone or it would be misspelled a lot. But I’m reconsidering. How big of a deal is it? I have a very common name but still have to spell it all the time because there are multiple spellings... I guess at least it wouldn’t be mispronounced which annoys me even more than being misspelled. This naming thing is hard!
Edt because words are hard too
  • @chopchop25 I dont normally comment in here just because who am I and my opinions, but Margot Ellery is amazing and I loooove it

Thanks so much ladies - H is now calling her that (when we're around the house), so I think it's sticking!

Just finally catching up on the board after a full day of yard work...so much to read!
  • @chopchop25 I LOVE Margot! I tried to convince DH to use it last pregnancy if it was a girl but he refused. Dang husbands and their opinions....
  • @jynjer91

I think the spelling Jaxon has been around for a while now, and you guys won’t have anymore pushback than any other name with multiple spellings (except from people who object to new-fangled spellings, which I put as much stock in as what random person named their dog).
  • @chopchop25 LOVE Margot Ellery.

@jynjer91 Jackson? I think that’s probably the spelling that would be everyone’s first guess, and it’s still somewhat unusual.

  • Had a dream last night that we found out #3 was another boy and coming NOW. I woke up in a panic because we still didn't have his name picked out. Lol. I couldn't care less the sex, but man a girl would be easier so I could be done with thinking about names!!

    E will be 18 on July 24th
    Z was born October 16, 2016
    #3 Due October 9, 2018

    D&C for MMC - October 13, 2015

  • @mrsmartinez16 - Maybe a family name for a middle name?  Then instead of honoring your DH’s naming traditions, you are honoring your family?

(Blast’s middle name is a family name from my mother’s side, so xe will have names from both families.)

My personal opinion on this is not necessarily about needing to spell a name for people because like you said that happens all the time, but using traditional spellings @jynjer91 which is just my style.

I think Jaxson would be pronounced "jacks-son" so lots of emphasis on that sound. Jackson "jack-son" takes out that extra emphasis. Jaxon does the same but i much prefer the more traditional spelling. If you go with Jaxon and someone asked he could at least have the simplicity of saying "jaxon with an x"

  • I am going through a phase of hating every name every person suggests! I hate myself for it. Nothing is clicking for me. Hormones? Maybe.
  • @erysapplepie definitely hormones. All the names I liked yesterday, I no longer like today. I hope eventually that subsides so I can pick one.
  • So, since giving Ds the middle name Echo (it's his 2nd middle name), we decided that any future kids would also have one more original name as middle name. I'm really liking River for a boy. I don't know that DH is sold. Last we talked he had said melody for a girl (because it goes with Echo, as far as being sound words) but I'm not sold. I like Aurora  (for aurora borealis. We like space stuff. So maybe I can think of other cool space related words/names). So I guess we are still no closer to anything, and my hunt continues. Lol
  • I like Aurora!

@jomama1618 if you guys like space and stuff what about Andromeda?? I literally just saw it on the baby names board and thought it was super neat so I figured I'd mention it here(:
I also love Aurora! My first thought on it is sleeping beauty then i think of the polar lights!
  • @mytrueloves I love both Amelia/Emilia.  I was totally set on naming this baby Amelia Jean if we were having a girl.  Oddly enough my sister was set on Emilia Jean if she had a girl (Jean is a family name).  Funny thing is we are both having/had boys :)

@chopchop25 looooove the name pairing of Margot Ellery! It sounds so classy and sophisticated.
  • I’m getting more and more stressed with this name stuff. We had a girl name picked out weeks ago and yup... another boy. I think I’ve literally seen every name possible and I only REALLY like 1, but DH hates it. No other name is really popping out as a decent possibility. How can I hate every boy name out there?
  • @Lisa3379 What is the name you love? Maybe we could suggest some that are similar and your H may like more?
  • @Lisa3379 SS's name is Otto and I love how unique it is in America, but it's totally German. I like Julian too.

We are set on Griffin, and I do love it. However, there's some days I start to 2nd guess it. Killian was a close second. We went more Celtic with our inspiration.
  • Rose is my middle name, I'm kinda partial to it. If we were having a girl she'd be Charlotte Rose.
  • @nasalot188 - I actually thought that as I was typing the sentence, and went and put two variations on Rex on the list.   :)
  • Dh and I haven't really discussed names that much since we're team green this time. We always give our kids names common in his culture. One of our challenges is that there are several letters in his native language that don't exist in the English language. So trying to find names we love and will be equally fitting in both countries is tricky. My youngest daughter has one of those letters in her name but there's an easy English pronunciation that sounds fairly close to her real name, so we just roll with that with most people. This little bean probably won't have a name until we leave the hospital lol.
