Baby Movements

Some lucky D'17 mamas are starting to feel baby movements. Tell us all about your baby's itty bitty kicks- are you a FTM/STM, when did you start feeling movements during this pregnancy and/or prior pregnancies, what does it feel like?

I'm a FTM with an anterior placenta, so I'll probably have to live vicariously through you guys for a while!

  • @blueskies17 I found out this weekend I also have an anterior placenta, I am pretty bummed I'll have to wait even longer to feel baby.

I am excited to read about everybody's first movement experiences!!!

Third time mom: first at 14 weeks, second at 12, this one around 11. At first it felt like somersaults. Then sometime last week I got kicked in the cervix which was a pretty surprising feeling. Today I felt a brush against the front of my uterus that was much more like what I'm used to (with the first two I never felt the sometsaults, just little swipes on my uterus.) I'm 14 weeks.

    definitely nothing consistent yet.
  • @anewadventure @ktcakes87 I will try the lying on my stomach thing! I'm generally pretty oblivious of things happening in my body (and outside of it lol) so that makes me think that I won't feel this baby until he karate chops me one day!
  • I had an anterior placenta with my first and didn't feel DS until 19 weeks, but DH couldn't feel him until 23 weeks.  I'm 15 weeks now and have thought I felt movement a couple of times.  I have an anterior placenta again though so it may be a little longer until I'm sure.
  • STM here! Felt the first bumps and jabs a few days ago at 14 weeks! Then they've become more distinguishable over the last few days. I find its easier at work because my scrub pants have a wide waistband that puts just enough pressure right over my uterus to make it easier to feel! Yesterday there were definitely some somersaults!
I felt DS around 17 weeks, in the car with my seat belt pressed against my belly.

  • Third time mom 16+2 (but last two were almost 10 years ago so I only kinda remember), I started feeling Baby B karate kick me at the top of my uterus before any kind of flutters about 2-3 weeks ago. B doesn't seem to like to be squished, so when I twist or move in certain ways, B let's me know with a quick jab. It always takes me by surprise, so much so that I let out a squeamish noise and my DH always thinks something is wrong with me lol. Baby A, who sits lower in the uterus, hasn't been as active as far as I can tell, but every now and then I can feel A slithering/rolling. Even on ultrasounds A is usually more docile, while B parties it up!

I'm totally jealous of you ladies that can still lay on your stomachs. I can spiral up my Snoogle pillow and leave a hole in the middle to lay face down for a bit, but no longer than 15ish minutes. Even rolling over to get out of bed has become more difficult!
  • FTM, and it's so hard to tell! Twice now I've felt what I think is a "flutter" that seems different than anything I've felt before, but I'm not totally sure it's the baby.  I'm so excited to feel him, but since I'm just 16 weeks I imagine it will be a few weeks before I can definitively tell it's him.  Any FTM's feeling anything yet?
  • 15+2 I felt a definite "shove" from baby when I rolled onto my stomach while sleeping a few nights ago.  Sorry, didn't mean to squish ya, little one.  If this were my first pregnancy, I probably would have thought it was gas!

STM. Anterior placenta the 1st pregnancy and felt DS at 19 weeks. This time I felt her between 14 and 15 weeks. I feel her mostly at night once I relax and am in bed. I feel little kicks low but every now and again she gets me good.
  • I'm a FTM. I asked the doctor and she said I won't feel the baby until 18-22 weeks. I am 13 weeks now so it seems like a long time until I feel the baby.
  • STM with DD I felt first really kick a 15 weeks this time around I felt the popcorn/ tiny butterflies feeling around 12 13 weeks and small kicks/bumps around 14 weeks which I mainly feel at night time when my bladder is full and peanut is saying "hey lady it's in my way!!!" And using it as a trampoline lol.
  • @shellac835 I also feel the flutters from time to time! So hard to tell if it's LO or just gas  :#  My doc did say though that since LO is front and center for me (heartbeat is always in same place right under my belly button), that I might feel the baby move earlier than 18-20ish weeks, and that it will feel like bubbles. Only time will tell!

  • @peachy13  Oh I think my baby is in a similar spot based on ultrasounds and doppler! So maybe I am actually feeling a little something  :)  Thank you! This thread is making me want to lay on my stomach on my office floor to see if I feel anything, lol.

FTM and clueless about these things. I've been feeling little pokes/jabs that don't twinge like muscle pangs but definitely don't feel normal/familiar.  I wonder if it's little guy, or just weird stretching/growing twinges.

I have the same issue, where I kind of just assume all the little feelings (sometimes a little painful, sometimes not) are muscle stretching. I wish there was a way to know for sure!

  • @shellac835 I may or may not have been poking at my belly throughout the day  :D

Third time-  I have felt baby as early as 12+ weeks, but I think the one day I felt baby that early was him/her flipping position because he/she was upside down at my sonogram.

I have consistently feeling the baby for baby for two weeks now.  I'm 16.5 weeks now.

  • STM. Felt baby a few times last week (!3 weeks). I was wearing my belly band--the pressure on the belly seems to make it easier to feel. With my first, I didn't feel anything til about 17 weeks, then felt a "knock, knock" double-tap from baby as well as flutters. This time it's more feeling the rolling around and some wiggles, but it's definitely not consistent yet.

  • FTM here.  I have a posterior placenta so I was told I would feel the baby a little sooner.  The past few days I've been feeling "air bubbles" which I have never felt before and they are different than gas bubbles.  I'm pretty sure it's him moving around in there as he was SUPER active during the u/s.  He usually likes to get rambunctious as I'm trying to fall asleep.

  • STM I felt DD at around 19/20. I thought I felt this one around 13 weeks and thought I was crazy. I keep feeling it so I'm convinced that's what it is. It's only when I'm in bed and still and relaxed.

  • I'm a first time mom and just starting feeling little kicks 2 days ago at 16 weeks 2 days. Even DH felt it when I lied on my back! They're little but distinct. Super weird and cool! Felt little kicks today while I sat at my desk, and just had a big smile on my face!
  • TTM - I'm 16 weeks on Weds and just started to feel little flutters. Absolutely love it! With each of my pregnancies I've felt the baby right around this time.

  • FTM and I'm pretty sure I just started feeling them for the first time yesterday at 15+4. They are tiny little flutters. I can only feel them when lying on my back going to bed. First I wasnt sure if it was gas, but today I was pin pointing the location and it was low so I'm pretty sure LO!

STM here and I felt him/her somersaulting around a few nights ago for the first time. And I've felt movement a few times since then (usually once I'm laying in bed). I'm 13 weeks. I can't remember how many weeks I was with my first! I want to say about 15?

ETA: so many of you (and moms on my last board) describe feeling "bubbles" or "butterflies". I've never had that! With DD, first time I felt movement it was super obvious and DH was able to feel. And this time was the same way!
  • @leighaw91 with DD it felt like heart palpitations in my belly. I know it sounds crazy. With this one, it's definite movement. No flutters at all. That's one reason I was second guessing myself.

I feel like I started feeling something a few weeks ago around 13-14 weeks.  But it was just a one second flutter at first that I'd feel twice in a day and not for a few more days. ETA I also have an anterior placenta.  From what I can tell on the doppler it's up towards the top of my uterus and to the left.

Just now and this morning (15+5 today) I keep feeling something and I can't quite tell the difference between ab muscle twitches and actual flutters. Maybe both  I'm jealous of you guys who can tell it's somersaults! That's amazing!

  • I was 20 weeks with my first and had an anterior placenta. Just felt this one definitely earlier this morning at 15w2d. To me it felt like 2 fingers lightly tapping me. Crazy, after 7 years I had forgotten how amazing it is!!

Third time mom. With my first I had an anterior placenta and felt him around 20 weeks. With my daughter I felt movement around 15 weeks I think and this one was for sure 14 weeks. For all the ladies with anterior placentas: I was so happy to feel my daughter earlier than my son. But something I didn't think about was how much worse the kicks would hurt at the end. The placenta adds some cushion. So while you may feel movement later you may enjoy it longer :)

Edited to add that drinking really cold water can get them to move!
  • How do you know if you have an anterior placenta? At my 8w US they said I have an inverted uterus but they have never mentioned my placenta. I have no other ultrasounds until 20w.

  • @ashtynmo I found out at the 12 week NT scan. The ultrasound technician was taking a bunch of measurements and wrote that on one the scans. I asked about it and she confirmed that I have an anterior placenta.
