Anyone thinking names yet?

Re: Anyone thinking names yet?

  • @jena333-2 Oliver is suuuuper popular in Australia. Was the most popular name in 2015 and 2016 and is predicted to be most popular in 2017 as well. I know of 3 Olivers that were born last year. Crazy how it's popularity has sky rocketed! Must be a good name though

  • We've finally settled on a boy's name, and I found a girl's name I'm IN LOVE with... But my husband isn't on board. We find out on May 3rd what we're having (I've never found out the gender before, not sure how I feel about it. Haha) and we were thinking if it's a girl we will both pick a name and she will be named what suits her best when she's born. Anyone else ever done this, or anything similar?

Anyway, the names we picked / I loved are
    Boy - Orion Anthony Jon
    Girl - Dahlia-Anne Marie

PS - all you Mama's have chosen some spectacular names!!
  • I like Sofia Rose but my husband doesn't. And we have a super long last name so I would like something shorter.

  • I think we've just agreed on our little girls name.. we've been throwing around middle names for awhile, and I'm pretty sure we've agreed on Lydia Monroe.   Our son's initials are LML, which prompted the search for a middle name that's an M.
  • @wyomama0427 Really? You had a cute name picked out. Why can't men just make up their minds? I swear, we get the wrap for being indecisive, but they are worse.
Really really. He doesn't like Lainey anymore. Insert extreme eyeroll gif
  • @wyomama0427 Yay for Raine! That's ours too! But we're spelling it Rayne. It's got a few special meanings to us spelled like that.

  • Raine is a cute middle name.

  • @wyomama0427 Rayne was a contender for us if we were having a boy.  We were going to spell it Reign.  I love the name!
  • So he suggested Emma Laine because our previous name was Lainey and I was expecting him to shoot me down when I suggested Emma Raine, but he loved it! Wut? Apparently his old boss names his daughter Raine. And he freakin loved that guy. Anyway. I feel kind of bad for stealing that right out of your suggestions for someone else lol @HollyGolightly09
Yay! I love the name Raine... I tried to push for it as a first name option, I thought it would be perfect since our last name is so f'ing long. DH isnt a fan, though.

  • We found out we are having a girl a few weeks ago and have been discussing names since. We don't like to have a picked until me meet our babies. After going through our family trees our top contender is, Anastasia Elizabeth. I feel like it will go well with our other two. Willow Ann and Ramsey Leonard. We will see though!
  • @Hopefulmommy1980 Haha, DH was calling our baby Chalupa Batman until we knew for sure it was a boy, and then it just seemed like a terrible idea to start that trend . ;)

  • @rhubarb7216 I like both of the names.

Desperate for boy name help - I posted before we are following a family tradition of JJJ. First name must be John middle name changes for each generation first born son. Baby will be called by his middle name.

I like John Jacob J - consensus this might be a little jingleheimer-y and not so nice.

x-SO likes John Jackson J - I feel like this is a little redundant? I like the idea of calling him Jack but Jack/John are basically the same... If we name him something else like John James J and call him Jack I feel like we are just as terrible as just naming him John Jacob.

Help. I might lose it over this naming business.
  • @towntowns Props to you for going along with that tradition... that would drive me crazy.
    John Jameson J___?

  • @towntowns I am with ya on the family naming tradition. My husband's family does John and then a middle name that does not have to be a J is what they usually go by. We are actually still deciding, but I think our guy will be named after his great grandpa where his first name will be John, but he will go by Jack. Middle name will be another family name that does not start with a J and is not Jack. My FIL is John Jay and he goes by Jay. Not sure if you like the name Jay.

  • I've posted before that we had a girl's name all picked out. But we are having a boy, and we are struggling on names. Lots of info below and I'd love to hear people's opinions, associations, etc. We don't want to involve family in this decision.

I still like Max Nathan, which I posted about before, but DH says he is over them :-(

Our goal is to choose a not-too-common, not-too-weird name. We are Jewish and for boys have always liked the idea of using Old Testament names. DH is convinced we should name baby Gideon. I'm open to it but not convinced, principally because I can't conceive of a great nickname. (I do love Max Gideon and he has proposed Gideon Maxwell.) We are very open to non-OT names but nothing that sounds obviously like it belongs to another culture (e.g. Declan) and we would like to avoid names ending in -er (e.g. Thatcher) due to our last name. And, as a reader, I'm quite interested in a literary name; Finn is on our list of potentials, though DH would want to do Phineas as the given name and Finn as nickname.

Other thoughts include maybe honoring one of our grandparents, so we would look to names starting with D (Dorothy, his grandmother), M (Max, his grandfather), or L (Louis, my grandfather). But we could honor grandparents through baby's Hebrew name also, so this is not a requirement.

    what do you all think??
  • @divinemsm620 I really like Gideon Maxwell for a couple reasons. It's a very strong name that is also different. I am also a huge criminal minds lover and Gideon is in the first couple seasons. I do not feel nicknames are nessasary but that's just me. Neither of our kids go by shorter versions of their names just pet names by us. (Ex. Peanut and Mister) top contender for this LO is Anastasia Elizabeth and I have no desire to call her anything shorter. Just my opinion though. Good luck. Names are so hard!!
  • @divinemsm620 I also like Gideon Maxwell or Maxwell Gideon. imo those names could go either way!

My first thought on Phineas nn Finn is that it's a bit odd to have the Ph- turn into an F- in the nn, but it's probably not a big deal. Dunno if spelling it Phin instead of Finn, but still having the same pronounciation is more or less odd though.

  • @tfrangul thank you! I agree it's a strong name, and I do like that part of it a lot.

@BigBadWolf12 I absolutely agree they could go either way; maybe I need more time to figure out how attached I am to Max. And I also agree on the Ph vs F spelling. My dad has a similar situation (with G and J) and his nickname, the only name he ever tells people, is often misspelled as a result.
  • @divinemsm620 that's a good point about if your kid ends up ONLY using the nn, then you would want the nn to be spelled in a standard way.... so much to think about!

  • @divinemsm620 I used to love the name Gideon, but the lack of a nickname ruined it for me, personally. I like names with 3+ syllables to have the option for a NN, but that's just me!

With Maxwell, my only concern as a first name is that you want something not too common. I know lots of little boys named Max... so I would at least check the popularity where you live. I would hate for you to use it, and then feel disappointed to hear it everywhere.

I do LOVE the name Finn, though. There are a few different full name options too if you aren't loving Phineas...  Finley, Finnian, Griffin.
    Pregnancy Ticker
  • @HollyGolightly09 I hadn't thought of Finn as a nickname for Griffin, but I really like it! I don't think DH will go for it as he has said no to Griffin in the past.

You are right about Max, of course. I am just a little sad because we have a lot of "requirements,"
if you will, and we can't meet them all.
  • I can't decide on our boys name...
We have a one-syllable last name, and these are all family names. What do y'all think?

    Taylor Lee
    Taylor Wright
    Taylor Murray

Since DH nixed Alexander, we've scratched that one, just having trouble with the middle!
