@towntowns I think it's totally personal preference but I will say that DH likes John for a middle name because it's his dad's name and my stepdad's name but I said I can't do Jacob John because even though it's not even in order, all I will ever think of is John Jacob Jingleheimer Schmidt lol

@towntowns I am a property manager and we have a really mean nasty resident that lives here fn John, ln Jacobs. And we shouldn't do this because we are adults... But we always sing the song after he leaves our office. Honestly, he is not nice though. Not everyone would know your little one's mn though....
@mrs_tacos@mrsmarygs@sugarpixxie2 ahhh my fears confirmed ha. Why does that song have to be so catchy! Unfortunately John has to be the first name as that is the tradition. Hopefully another J name starts to feel right. I like James but don't love Jamie. I know so many Jamies who aren't very nice. I am think I am just very stubborn about these J names.
@swazzle I am glad I am not the only one in this boat. SO thinks that I am being silly to worry about this, but it really is what immediately pops into your head.
When I was pregnant last time her name was gonna be Colbie I loved it, but then I started looking at new names and my husband really liked Alexis. Well now that it's another girl I kinda love it again! I have a book and one of the list Colby is under is super masculine, the spelling in different but does it sound really manly?!?
@mcdoug211 I think Colby/Colbie is super masculine, especially next to an Alexis, which is very feminine. If I heard Colbie next to and Alexis, I would assume it was her brother.
@mcdoug211 Cobie Smulders is one of the actresses from How I Met Your Mother, so even though they aren't the same name, a name very similar to Colbie has a precedent as a girl's name.
@allowe I love the middle name Woods, especially if you are honoring a family member. I work with many foster youth, so unfortunately my mind goes there when I hear the first name.
Resurrecting this, whether you like the name or not, would you guys mind telling me what "vibe" you get from the name Thorin Wilder?
I'm shooting for more of an earthy/hippy/whimsical vibe, which some people seem to take from it, but I've had a couple people tell me it sounds kinda southern inspired, more along the lines of Hudson/Gunnar/Hunter etc. Do you get either impression from it? Or something else? Thanks!
@mrs_tacos and @LaceyC1020 I can get down with that! DS is Maximus Evander, and we want something that kind of mirrors that feel, if that makes sense. Masculine with a touch of earthy is my ideal mix if I can find it.
@JNR6510 It is used in the Hobbit, yes! Tolkien borrowed it from Old Norse names, I guess it was a fairly popular name in Viking times. We are both big LOTR fans, however we came across it while browsing old Scandinavian/Norse names.
@angeladowns1 I love it. I do think he'd get called Thor a lot, especially with the popularity of the Marvel movies. I think it's adorable but I could see some people not liking it so if for some reason you hadn't thought of that I figured I'd mention it. But I love both names and I think it fits the feel of your DS's name quite well.
Re: Anyone thinking names yet?
For a boy we have to use J names as I haven't been able to talk SO out of his JJJ family tradition.. He is John Joshua, and goes by Josh.
Is it too mean for me to name my child John Jacob? Am I setting him up for being teased?
My girl name is Emilia "Emmie" or Madeline.

@mcdoug211 I agree it might be a little more on the masculine side but I still think it's really cute and could still work for the little sister.
Eta : then we will have maverick and McKenna
john jude
john jordan
john jasper
john jayden
john Jefferson
That's a really difficult name pairing with all Js!

@LaceyC1020 thanks! Your name for your little girl is beautiful, by the way.
I like Maverick and McKenna. My only thought would be, are you planning on having more kids? You would probably need to stick with the M theme.
