Re: Randoms and Questions 2.13 - 2.17

  • Haven't had a chance to get through all of this yet (these random threads are so big!).

    Question for Moms of Multiples:
have your pregnancies been noticeably different between babies' sex? I guess what I'm asking is have you experienced different symptoms if the sex of the second baby is different than the first? Are girl pregnancies different from boy?

We are team green and a few women have shared that they could tell the sex was different because of their symptoms (heartburn, fatigue, etc). Anyone experience this?
With DD I had virtually no symptoms except fatigue. If I had not been trying to get pregnant (with very irregular periods), I would probably not have known for awhile.

With this LO who is a boy, I got symptoms and early on. Super sore nips, fatigue, some headaches, nausea. Im also a lot less comfortable this time but I'm chalking that up to this being my second pregnancy and my body is just responding sooner. I did guess that this one was a boy mostly because of the differences in synptoms but it could have gone either way.

  • @chickyclg Haha, DH suggested putting the wine glasses away too and I looked at him like he was nuts.

@chailife34 Baby #3 here and first boy. I have noticed NOTHING different between my two girls and now this one as a boy. If I didn't have so many ultrasounds I would have sworn it was a girl too. I crave the same things, same morning sickness (very little) and I'm carrying the same!

  • In regards to bottle storage I use a lazy susan cabinet in the kitchen. Microwave sterilizer bags, milk freezer bags, and bottles are all in there. Untouched since Nov 2015. Picture is so you can get an idea of the space, it's a pretty deep cabinet since it can fit a colander.

Pump parts are either in that mess or stored in my pump bag in baby storage. When things weren't in that cabinet they were on one of the Boon Lawns on the counter.

  • @SWE2 I totally don't know how much space I'll need, but I'll share my plan. We have an upper cabinet that's just a single door and it has 3 shelves. I am thinking nipples, paci's, parts on the bottom shelf (may have a small 3 drawer organizer to organize these), bottles on the middle shelf, and then if needed, cans of formula/ anything extra, but infrequently used on the top shelf. As baby gets older obviously cups would replace the bottles and I think plates would go on top? and I think I will get the drawer organizer as I could put spoon in there.

omeprazole is a category C drug, which means: Category C. Animal reproduction studies have shown an adverse effect on the fetus and there are no adequate and well-controlled studies in humans, but potential benefits may warrant use of the drug in pregnant women despite potential risks.
My GI doctor took me off of omeprazole when I told him I was trying to conceive and put me on another pantoprazole, which is a schedule B. It sounds like there is some variation in who feels comfortable prescribing it, but it sounds like a lot of people do take it.
  • @chailife34, I was just talking to my doctor about the differences between my pregnancy with my son and now this one with a girl. Medically, I'm experiencing very similar pregnancies, but from a symptom standpoint, everything seems a little earlier and more intense. She told me it likely has nothing to do with boy vs girl and that subsequent pregnancies tend to be worse just because your body is older and has been through it before.

  • @Jens_Hoes now that you mention category C I remember my OB calling it in and my pregnancy pharmacist talking me out of it haha. I left a message with my OB so hopefully she sends something category B!

  • Not joking on small kitchens over here. This is literally the extent of my cabinet space AND we have to use a cabinet as our pantry since we have no pantry/closet on the first floor. Thank you historic military housing :expressionless:

  • @nda_roxybabe When we lived in a house with a bigger kitchen that single cabinet you described is the perfect amount of space for baby stuff. That's pretty much exactly what I did!

  • I boiled/cleaned all my bottles and then put them in a duffle bag. Then they were put with all the baby stuff in storage (a closet in the house).

DD I was had stereotypical "girl" symptoms. I was deathly ill my whole pregnancy. With this one (boy) I barely remember I am pregnant. It's like night and day. I mean now I am huge and feel him all the time, but in the beginning I needed to remind myself I was pregnant.

  • Has anyone noticed the title of this thread says "questioms"? I almost didn't want to mention it because I've been enjoying saying questioms so much in my head.
  • I'm experiencing a bit of a panic today...DH is taking DS cross country to Colorado tomorrow for the long weekend to visit family. I was going to go, but I'm saving my time off for leave and don't have Presidents Day off. I am SO irrationally stressed about their trip. I know it's being enhanced by pregnancy hormones, but I am beyond freaked out that something is going to happen to them and I am going to be here pregnant and alone (because my family lives cross country). UGH.

Zantac is safe for pregnancy, I was put on that this week in addition to my other medication.  I'm sure they know of some others as well.
Good luck, my reflux is kicking my ass!!!
  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I will definitely try the button up shirt trick and search Amazon for some clip guards. I'm usually in the back with him but did a mommy/son trip today and saw he kept hitting the button on his chest clip... grr. Luckily, I tighten the straps pretty snugly so he stayed put.

Gotta catch up when he's asleep tonight.

  • I didn't see a TMI Tuesday for this week, so I'm just gonna put this here:  Is anyone experiencing feeling numb during sex?  It feels like I have WAY decreased sensitivity both inside & out. Where is this mysterious amazing sensitivity I hear about during pregnancy?!

  • @SKZW not creepy at all! To the left of our kitchen table is actually our coffee bar/microwave cart. It's a small shelf that holds our microwave and our coffee pot plus all the coffee necessities. We had to add that because the coffee mugs alone would take up so much cabinet space! I also have a little IKEA cart there that holds our fruits/veggies/bread so it would clear up counter space.
I also added shelving to the wall to the right of the stove (it's a step down area to our backdoor) and that's where our pots/pans hang plus some baskets for baking items and cookbooks.
I've been pretty creative so far so I just need to really think of a good storage solution, but I do like your idea of a drawer system! Now to find where to put that...

  • @hp_momma: Those sound like great solutions! I have a narrow, tall, square IKEA cart too, that has a butcher block top and a metal bottom shelf and I put so many things on it! It's like it was made for my exact space. And yes, coffee items alone are a huge amt of things---having their own place, right nearby where they're needed, is such a good use of space.

    Warning: long story/rant ahead.

My life is a mess. So I obviously was so happy earlier to get a call about a potential interview. I'm driving home and I hear a pop noise and then some other noise that sounds like dragging. I realize that my back bumper popped off the clips and is blowing in the wind behind me. So I pull over on the thruway, and it's 730 pm btw so pitch black, and I'm trying to put it back in place with my phone flashlight on the phone with my husband as cars and 18 wheelers fly by. I finally get it in place and I'm so confident and I'm saying stupid stuff like "I am woman, hear me roar!" So I continue my way home. Maybe 10 minutes later I wasn't paying complete attention and get pulled in by the snow on the side of the road and hit a street sign. I pull over because my car sounds like it's dying. I mess up the front bumper, side panel and wheel well. I call my husband crying, he tells me it's fine and to come home. When I come home I realize I messed up the back panel and says it's likely totaled. So now I'm sobbing, and we call his trooper friend to see if I can get in trouble for leaving the scene if we call the insurance (we can, he suggests going back and calling the police for a report if we're gonna use insurance). So then after discussing we decide not to use insurance because my car in pristine condition isn't worth enough. Then we try to decide whether to buy a new car, a new used car or fix a few things on my car for the time being until we're in a better place financially (remember the financial struggles of a few weeks ago lol). So after looking for 1 hour we decide to get a new bumper and side panel and not fix the rest.

So I went from having a good day to crying like an insane person because this is my life.
Ps. I'm totally fine and baby is great, car is just screwed.

Eta: I'm sorry I feel like I've been doing a lot of selfish posting about myself this week/lately
  • @Jens_Hoes I'm so sorry!! Car stuff is maybe the worst because it's so damned expensive but you HAVE to deal with it!! I hope that the light of day tomorrow brings a new perspective and maybe a new creative way to get you out of this mess. Creepy stranger internet hugs going to you!
Also I feel you on feeling selfish lately. I've been so busy all my posts seem to be selfishly motivated. Don't feel bad - we all ebb and flow :)
  • @Jens_Hoes So sorry to hear about your bad day but glad to hear you and baby are ok! Hang in there girl and indulge yourself in some dessert tonight!

  • @Jens_Hoes: selfish schmell-fish... you're fine for posting!... seriously don't pile on the guilt on top of all that other business you have to deal with... like you said, you're fine, baby is fine, it's just a car, just a thing... you are what's the most important. It'll be okay! Things will look better in the morning. Try to go easy on yourself.
  • @Jens_Hoes oh no! I am glad you are ok. A car can always be replaced you cannot. I hope you have a better day tomorrow and maybe hear about that job. What a crap hump day.
  • @mamatowildones and @Jens_Hoes my OB has had no problems with me on the generic for Prilosec and the Zantac is on the list of things I can take for various symptoms throughout pregnancy. My guess is that each dr is going to have a different opinion on the types of drugs you can take, much like everything else. I hope you can find some relief soon! I don't know what I'd do if I couldn't take the Prilosec! I'm a mess if I miss it, even if I just take it later in the day!

  • @Jens__Hoes - I am sorry for your evening and car but so glad that you and baby are okay.

@chailife34 - It doesn't happen to every woman but I have definitely experienced it. Pregnancies #1 and #3 have been remarkably similar and they are both boys. My pregnancy with DD was completely different.

  • Wow! Lots to catch up on today. I apologize if I tag any of the wrong people.

@absbubbs I am large chested and got a Calia by Carrie Underwood bikini. It covers my chest well and is built like a sports bra, so it can't easily be pulled down by LOs. I love it.

@mrsrep123 I can't remember how old your little one is, but when my cousin's son was unbuckling his seat belt, she pulled up next to a police officer and basically had the officer tell her son that he could go to jail if he didn't keep his seat belt on. It worked well; I think her son was 3.

@Jens_Hoes I'm sorry that you had a tough evening, but I'm glad that you and baby are safe. Good luck with the job!

I feel like there was someone else that I was going to tag, but I can't remember at the moment.
  • @Jens_Hoes I'm so sorry you had a rough night. Glad you and the baby are OK though!

@nda_roxybabe I know this response is totally late, but since I'm in the same boat as you (trying to work now to save time for when baby is here) I know it seems like you're just stuck. I think it was @SKZW that said sometimes taking the time now to decompress will set you up for future success... especially since it's your coworker that's at the root of it and getting away to figure out how to make it work makes sense.

@starphish18 bummed to hear that your plan for work after baby is here didn't work out but glad that you'll have a new adventure as a SAHM. And LOL to saying questioms in your head!

@jens_hoes (so hilarious to see you changed your name) FX about the state job and good to know you and baby are ok after that hell-of-a drive home you had.

@Kipperoo I think I'd be feeling the same as you, pregnancy hormones or not. Having that amount of distance between H & DS would be unbearable. I know that didn't help any but hopefully lots of FaceTime will. I hope the time passes quickly. Oh, and April 11?! Wow! I guess knowing the date makes it a bit easier? What do you think?

I'll never have the bathing suit top dilemma of you well endowed ladies, however, if I don't keep up with my squats, my apple bottom will turn into a pancake and I'll have to shop for some board shorts to even have the desire to be pool/ocean side.

  • @Jens_Hoes , do not apologize for posting your troubles! Rant away, my friend, that sounds like a really tough day and I'd be falling apart, too. Glad to hear you are safe though--as cliche as it is, that really is the most important thing.

  • @Jens_Hoes so sorry about your tough day! Sounds like your hubby is very supportive! Isn't it nice to have a mechanic in the family who can fix things without having to pay a ton?! My H is also an auto mechanic and it definitely helps that we only have to buy parts if something happens! :)

  • @Jens_Hoes I'm so sorry to hear about your day! But I'm glad that your husband was sweet about it--and especially glad that he will be able to fix it! Like @BabyMC517, I also have an auto mechanic husband (he just switched careers in August but had been a mechanic for 11 years before that and still does a lot with his own/family cars, so the skills will stick around!), and it's soooooo nice to know that car repairs won't cost an arm and a leg. I'm so glad you have that too!

There must be something in the water, because I was an emotional wreck yesterday too. I think I spent more time crying than not crying, and I even made myself take a nap (which I almost never do) because I just couldn't handle being awake. We're going through a major family + career decision right now and it's so hard (plus hormones, I'm sure). I'll probably write/vent about it at some point--not right now because I'm actually feeling positive at the moment and don't want to risk starting the waterworks--but positive vibes would be appreciated.

I hope you're having a much better day too! :)

Also, add me to the list of those with tiny kitchens...can't open the dishwasher and the fridge at the same time :|  I love the advice that @hp_momma and others have gotten on space-saving ideas (thanks @nda_roxybabe, @SKZW, @WombThereItIs...I know I'm missing others). I was actually thinking of starting a "small space survival" thread for this type of advice. We're staying in our one-bedroom apartment and it sounds like others have space constraints as well--and many have been there, done that with great tips to share!
