Re: Randoms and Questions 2.13 - 2.17

  • You ever look all over for something and just can't find it?  I've been looking for one of our spare diaper bags and I am at a loss.  The only time it used to get used was to carry my old pump around or when I'd split the twins up if I'd be spending the day at the children's hospital.  The damn thing was always in the way when I didn't want to see it but now it's no where  :s

  • @jens_hoes sorry to hear about your car! That kind of stuff seriously can ruin your whole day!

re Bras: I actually was getting so uncomfortable with the bands of my bras I just switched to the ugliest, frumpiest, most comfortable bras I could find. I'm literally embarrassed for fiance to see me in them, but at this stage comfort > looking good. After the baby comes and I don't feel so swollen I'll look into cuter options.

My random: (forgive me if we've talked about this, my brain is mush lately) does anyone have semi/painful pressure when baby moves? I'm 29+5 and its starting to get really uncomfortable when he moves which tends to be all the time.... I have a dr appt next friday where I'll bring it up to him as well. I'm just nervous for how much it will hurt as he gets so much bigger over the next 9 weeks... I don't remember having the pain with DD

  • @L1C4gal: Hang in there! It's all going to be okay! Today's a new day, honestly, and you'll get through it, promise!  :)  Lots of hugs!

@chickyclg: Isn't that the worst? I bet you'll stumble over it when you're looking for something else in a few days. Probably in the back of a closet, or in a box, or suitcase, or behind some coats, somewhere strange. When you're not looking for it, is when you'll find it. Murphy's law.
  • @Jens_Hoes I am sorry about the craptastic day you had yesterday :( Always feel free to vent. Glad your husband was so supportive and is handy!

+1 on small kitchen. @L1C4gal I too cannot open the dishwasher and fridge at the same time in our galley kitchen. When we moved in I insisted we get a french door refrigerator because a regular door fridge would have touch the counter on the opposite side and not opened fully. We managed to clear out a drawer for DS last time, but we packed things away as they were phased out and the drawer is full of the current supplies. Looks like we will be doing some more clearing.

Anyone get their bringing home baby outfit(s) yet? If so, where did you shop? I am at a loss and would love some ideas. Maybe this should be a new thread to post photos of the outfits and where you got them?

  • @Louise_Belcher: Yes, start a new thread for photos! Another birth month has one, and baby clothes always make people smile  :)
  • @BeachMommy2B uncomfortable or painful movement was a daily norm for me in the third tri last time and has started around 26w this time. I have no torso so space is right and it's pretty much unvoidable.

  • Aww @Jens_Hoes hugs! Car problems are the wooooorst.

I went home crying to H last night about all my woes and he made me feel 100 times better! He said he felt bad that I'm stressed and dont stress, it's not good for baby, and it's all okay and just, yea. So much better.

  • @Jens_Hoes Glad you are ok! What a horrible evening.
@BeachMommy2B I always think it's uncomfortable when baby moves, especially when it's more than just kicks or punches.
@nda_roxybabe I'm glad you are feeling better, and that your H is great at doing it!
I'm pretty excited, I've had most of my appointments scheduled for a while now, but I just officially scheduled the rest!
  • @Jens_Hoes glad you and baby are ok! Hope you're having a better day today :)

@BeachMommy2B I would say this babies movements are much more uncomfortable then when I was pregnant with my first! Especially when she gets close to my ribs  :|

@Squirtgun that sounds so relaxing and so much fun! Hoping when DH takes his vacation next week he'll let me sneak out sans toddler for a target run and a hair cut!

@bacorrea Good luck on the hunt! Brownies sound really good, except I seriously need to lay off the sweets. I made brownies last week and H and I (mostly me) ate them in like 3 days. And now I've been munching on chocolates since Valentine's.

Omggg we are never going to find a house in El Paso. I'm so over the state of Texas. I don't know we we keep getting sucked in there. I'm so stressed. I ate 3 brownies.
Have you tried militarybyowner.com? That's how we found our last two houses.

  • @WombThereItIs we have! DH has gone to see lots of houses today. We are hoping for this one particular house but it isn't available until March 11th. DH is going to see in Wednesday so I'm just praying it all works out. This is his first full day looking at houses.

Totally personal question, but when y'all are renting do you use all of the BAH? We have $1446 to work with.. we were hoping to stay under, but it doesn't seem like the houses in "safer" areas are much cheaper than that. It blows my mind that people pay $1800-$2000 to rent.  :o

@bacorrea we are picky about houses so we generally spend the full BAH on rent. I also work though so we have more wiggle room than most families.

I've definitely noticed military towns know what BAH is for most people and price rent exactly at that. It's annoying. We will be looking for an extra bedroom this PCS which costs almost exactly what the extra BAH from his promotion will be. I swear it's like they just know. How people can stretch it to cover rent and utilities blows my mind.

edit: you think $2k is crazy rent? We will probably pay $3,000 a month with this next move!

  • Random. So last night I was having a bad dream. Can't even remember what it was about but I was bracing myself for whatever was about to happen and right then LO kicked me and startled me awake. Talk about perfect timing.

Also I have a question for STMs. At my appointment (29w) this week we had an u/s to check on kidneys and everything was normal, however baby is still measuring ahead quite a bit. I know when we conceived so I know when to expect baby, however, doctor scheduled a growth scan at 36w. Of course I am okay with it because it's another chance to see baby but my question is,  why would a scan be needed? Like, what would be the concern or how could it affect anything? I should have asked but I didn't think to until after the appointment.

  • @bacorrea I feel like in a military town it's nearly impossible to find a decent home in a nice area for under BAH! It's so frustrating.

  • @WombThereItIs haha it's only crazy to me because I grew up very poor. My parents would have never been able to have us in a house for $2k rent. And at what point are you just like eff this and buy the house! I know that is a big deal in Texas. It is so much cheaper to buy than to rent. (Obviously not long term though).

@hp_momma I know!! It's been super frustrating. My friend there said they use all their BAH for the house and pay out of pocket for all utilities.
  • @vrj0522 I measured crazy big last time. The main concern was if he was estimated to be past a certain weight at delivery they wanted to then recheck if I had GD because there are guidelines that suggest GD babies shouldn't be delivered vaginall over like 10lbs because of risk for shoulder dystocia.

When we was off the charts again around 34/36 weeks they actually made me re do the GD screening to be extra sure.

@vrj0522 I had to have growth scans with DD! She was always measuring ahead and they were pretty "concerned" with her size. I was induced at 39 weeks and she was 9.9lbs 20 3/3 in. If I would have gone to 41 weeks she most likely would have been an 11lb baby. My midwife was great and totally believed I could deliver her vaginally, anencephaly I did! Also remember the growth scans can be off +/- 1lb.

My mom is a small woman and really wanted a VBAC with my brother but the doctor believed he was going to be too large for her to safely deliver and he was. He was 11lbs 1oz 23 in long. She had a rescheduled cscetion.

ETA I was induced due to pre-e, not due to DD's size.
  • @Kipperoo, I totally get where you're coming from with the worry about your DH and LO travelling. I have anxiety and my biggest trigger is when DH travels - I'm constantly worried that something will happen to him. The things that work best for me are either distracting myself or trying to reason with myself. He also humors me by checking in when he gets to his gate and when he arrives where he's going. Try to relax! I hope the weekend goes fast for you.

@Jens_Hoes haha did you change your name again? I'm glad you're okay! I would have freaked out about the car thing, too. I'm glad your husband is being so sweet about it. Nice to have a mechanic in the family :)

@vrj0522 Measuring "big" can be related to baby size or extra fluid. Ultrasound can tell those apart so it's one big reason to do it. Induction early or c-section without trial of labor just for a potentially "big" baby *without* a diagnosis of gestational diabetes is looked down upon but people still do it. Lots of mamas get scared into induction or c/s by providers who are worried about shoulder dystocia. I'd bring a healthy dose of skepticism (about early intervention) to the appt following the scan if your pregnancy is otherwise uncomplicated (I'm sorry if there is something major going on - my memory is terrible).

    Edit: Words are hard sometimes.

  • I always knew hair could change during pregnancy but my hair is so unbelievably dry! It looks awful all the time! Anybody else?
  • @ShadeofGreen816 My hair has seemed drier than normal this winter. I usually get a bit of static this time of year, but it's been especially bad. I'm using way more conditioner and adding product before my hair dries, which I don't normally do. But, on the upside, I've noticed I lose considerably less when I take a shower.
  • I'm seeing 6 houses tomorrow and I'm so excited! I want DH to defer to me on picking a house... haha he let me pick the baby name so it's a slippery slope, I guess. I'm a little worried that certain things are more important to me than they are to him, but we communicate really well and usually like the same things, so I think it'll go well. One of these isn't necessarily going to be the one, but there are definitely some promising houses in the list.

Side note: there are rumors at my job about a merger or acquisition that are making me a little nervous about buying a house (I'm the primary earner), but I'm going to move along like everything is fine. I can't base my life on rumors. Either way, they're making an announcement next month at work, so I won't have to wait too long to know what's going on. You can never plan for everything, right?

  • @ShadeofGreen816 and @starphish18  My hair has been crazy healthy all pregnancy but so dry on my scalp. I hate it.

  • @Kipperoo Congrats on passingly your glucose test!!! Woo hoo!!!
  • @ShadeofGreen816, huge YES. I normally have really healthy hair, but a mix of the dry weather and I'm guessing the pregnancy have left it looking not so great. When I remember, I use a product called Bonacure Split End Sealer (I think that's what it's called). It seems to help a ton.

  • Glad I'm not the only one. I JUST had a trim this week, hoping it would make me feel better about it. I just feel like my hair is kinda frizzy (it's obnoxiously fine and straight so frizzy is not quite the right descriptor beside just DRY) and looks BORING. so, I know it's not split ends. Guess I'll just have to deal!
  • I need to sulk a little... I feel like worlds worst mom lately. Both of the 1095s for the two diff insurances i had came back wrong. One states ive had medicaid since the first of the year (and when i called they saw they really made an error and it says ive had it since 2012) when in reality i never applied until i found out it was twins at the end of october bc the only reason we did was for help with extra u/s since my policy only covered one. Anyway, since we recieved a subsidy during that time, if we file taxes with the form as it is,  we will have have to pay back 1300 bucks and on top of that the market place has my daughters running through dec when it was supposed to be terminated in oct so we would have to pay that back as well. Its a whole stupid ordeal that ive spent hours trying to get corrected but i feel like a terrible parent bc this morning i was on the phone with them for another two hours and dd just watched tv. Then we visited my mom and had lunch out but afterward we played for a bit and tried to get her to take a nap at moms house so we once again turned on the tv. Now my husband is helping with the tech booth at church and im beat for the day and dont feel well so we watched more tv. I HATE when i feel like she just watched tv all day but im just plain worn out. This pregnancy is no joke.

@jkp7749 You're not a terrible mother! It's okay to have those days. You had to do what you had to do, and your DD stayed occupied during. I hope you work things out.

ETA: I always have Wallykazam/Umizoomi every evening during the week. That's the time I do dishes, cleaning etc without DD getting in the way. It doesn't always work but when she does pay attention, it's at least educational?

  • @Jkp7749: I'm sorry to hear that! What an icky feeling... But, I know you're a great mom! Because of the fact that all the TV-watching today bothers you, means that you care so much in the first place. And chances are, this was out of the norm, and she's not watching 12 hours each day, every day, for the past year, right? You're doing good. And all of that insurance stuff will be sorted out soon, too. It's going to be okay. I love a good sulk now and then: Put your feet up, have some ice cream, and know that the weekend is right around the corner.  :)
