  • @pawcall @brooklyngirl18 @Funnygirl34 thanks y'all. I'm taking it with a grain of salt until the blood test.. I'm determined this WILL work. For all of us!!

  • I'm feeling crappy and bitter this morning.

I sought out advice from some friends about what my RE is telling me, and now everyone's making me feel like he's acting dangerous and crazy.  Why would he put me on clomid if I ovulate on my own, etc.

My very scientific research (Google ;)) tells me that this isn't uncommon, right?  What he told me is that he doesn't see a major issue, so he needs to work to find the minor one(s).  He thinks I have too many immature follicles at the beginning and that the one that finally matures might not be "good enough quality" - so the clomid is meant to produce a few higher quality mature follicles.  It's not like he put me on 4,000mg of clomid and told me to have at it - he put me on 50mg and is monitoring follicles before IUI.  Won't proceed if I've overstimulated.  So the comments about being "the next jon and kate +8" seem pretty unnecessary.  We can't even conceive one.

Also, people who think they're being helpful by commenting that "omg you'll have triplets!!!" - also not helpful.  It's freaking IUI, not a magic wand.

Have you guys dealt with comments like this?  I trust my RE, I don't think he's being reckless.  And I seriously regret asking anyone's opinion.

  • @pawcall Your friends are dramatic.  I ovulate on my own but my RE had me on clomid for a handful of cycles until we moved to IVF.  It's relatively standard practice.

If your friends' comments are making you uncomfortable you should talk to your doctor to make sure you understand the treatments you are receiving.  Also, tell your friends to pipe down and just be supportive.

  • @pawcall I'm with @laurad75 it is totally normal for an RE to put you on clomid or letrozole even if you O on your own. I O on my own and have never had a BFP unless medicated and we tried for YEARS. Your Friends are uneducated about IF. If you are properly monitored which your RE will do its fine. Hugs and no I wouldn't ask anyone's opinion, though if you want to tell them what your going through that's up to you. If they make insensitive comments tell them. People who don't have IF often don't have a clue.

  • I feel like it comes from a place of not understanding IF treatment, although these are specifically women who have worked with RE's for various reasons.  At first they assumed I was working with some random OB who had no idea - no, this is an RE who knows what he's doing, thanks.

  • @pawcall I'm sorry your friends sound totally insensitive and plain wrong. Clomid is a pretty standard first step when being treated by an RE. I ovulate on my own and am taking clomid and have never thought that was strange. As long as you're  being monitored then there's nothing out of the ordinary about what you're doing.

  • @pawcall - truthfully, I was surprised he had you do an unmedicated cycle - that seemed so conservative in its approach! And your dosage is low!

My sisters have joked about us having clomid twins, but it's unlikely. I was reading up on it pretty closely - fraternal twins run in my family too, so I thought we might have an extra chance. The odds of it happening are really low - even lower than the odds of getting pregnant at all. ;) (DH's face when they joke about it really makes me laugh, though. So unamused - he is not looking forward to newborn phase even with one.)

I hope your morning improves soon, and you are feeling less crappy and bitter.

@Paisley2015 - sorry for your BFN. As pp have said, hopefully it's just too early.

    @brooklyngirl18 - GL!!!! FX!!!

@Momifbysea - I didn't have an U/S last cycle either. I had a baseline U/S to make sure I had no cysts, and then bloodwork right before ovulation. I suspect we'll do an U/S this cycle to see how my follicles have done.

@Londonsmom - whoa - that is a lot of clomid. What does it feel like? Have you started yet? I'm on 100mg/day and the side effects were already whoa.

@amanda_1182 - that is an awesome jump! Huge difference in count! Wow! :D

  • BFN this morning at 9DPO... reminding myself it's super early and trying to keep the hope alive.  Can't help but feeling discouraged though.

@mandmplus1 congratulations! Im sure everything goes well!

@Funnygirl34 - FX that it's just too early.  9DPO is pretty early but I totally get the urge to test.  Knowing that it can happen that early, I really can't stop myself.

    @mandmplus1 - AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! Congrats!!!

@Cinnamonn   - we have no IVF coverage either, I really don't think it's going to be possible for us.  What did they quote you (ballpark)?

I am on day 2 of clomid 50mg and have had a nasty headache for like 30 hours straight.  Could this be the clomid?  I get migraines pretty regularly too, and I'm off my migraine meds because they're super awful and unsafe for TTC, so it could totally just be a coincidence.  Yesterday felt migrainey, but today is just pain and dizziness.  I can't quite explain why it feels different, it just does.

@junicek my DH traveled to Panama in Dec and he's going back next week and the first week in March. After a male is exposed to Zika the CDC and my RE say to TTA for 6 months (2 if it's the female) and there's no real way to test for it. Most people that carry Zika have no symptoms so even though DH is nearly certain he didn't get a bug bite and he's not showing any symptoms the REs office still said no treatment for 6 months unless they could get samples before he left in Dec. People in Zika infected areas have healthy babies all the time so things could definitely be fine but putting up the amount of money that we are I was not going to risk it.

8 dpiui and I have been soooo irritable for the last few days, particularly at my poor husband. I assume maybe that it's just the trigger shot wearing off, but man, I hate pretty much everything right now. Hope this passes quickly :(
  • @pawcall, your headache is very likely from the clomid. What time of day are you taking it? I've been taking mine right before going to sleep and have been able to sleep through any side affects. If you start getting too dizzy or getting blurred vision, call your doctor right away!
  • @eternalyte I to am 8dpiui and was a serious grouchy-pants yesterday, I'm chalking it up to the progesterone. Hopefully we can hang in there!

  • I just had my first iui yesterday. I am also taking estrace. We have been trying for over 2 years so excited for the possibilities with the IUI.
  • @mandmplus1 congratulations!!

@Eternalyte @wabash15 - I am grouchy pants too, but I think it's just the waiting. So much waiting!

I'm officially out this month; you may see me in March. I mentioned earlier that AF was late - she's still not arrived. Grr. This is officially my least favourite side-effect: without clomid, my cycle is usually 28 days, and with clomid, it's longer. This is the longest cycle I've had - going on 32 days.

My DH (and even a small part of me) thought: "maybe it's late because pregnant!", but I'm not, and now have the bloodwork to prove it.

I won't be updating the chart any more, I'm going to bow out of this thread.

Best of luck to everyone here!

    Final update from me:

(if someone wants to take it over, PM me and I can send you the data!)
  • good luck, @bpietronicco !

@funkykey - I'm so sorry to hear this.  Just sent a PM, I'd be happy to keep updating the spreadsheet since I'm going to be one of the latest to IUI in Feb (if all goes according to plan).  Hopefully this just pushes you forward a tiny bit.

  • Hi everyone, I would love to join this group I had my first IUI yesterday afternoon.  Question, hoping someone can response. I had the follicular ultrasound the day before the IUI by a different RE, during the scan the RE said I have one mature follicle and the other two are small. They gave me the trigger shot on the spot and scheduled the IUI for 30 hours later. At home when I was viewing the results of the ultrasound this is what was noted:

    Left Ovary: 17.14mm, 26.60mm
    Right Ovary: 22.58mm

From the material I have read it says at least 18-20mm are mature follicles so does the results not show that I had two mature and one very close?

I haven't had a chance to speak to my regular RE so I will have to wait to ask.  DH sperm count was 33 million so hoping this works.

  • @Knottie47011442 welcome! It might be good if you can change your screen name to make it easier to tag you. From what it looks like I would say you have 3 good sized follies

  • Hi everyone! I'm super new to posting this sort of thing, so please bear with me! I'm brand new to the boards and I'm hoping to have IUI #3 sometime this month.  @wabash15mentioned I might want to jump on over here, so here I am!I feel like we're running a little late this cycle, my previous IUI's were done on CD 9 and CD 12 and I won't even see the RE again until CD 16, but I'm crossing all available fingers and toes at this point. I started taking clomid on Monday after my RE determined I wasn't adequately responding to the letrozole we had been using previously (I've never had a follicle measured over 17.9 mm, which I think is a tad on the small side, but this time I didn't have anything over a 7mm). I'm starting to feel a bit crampy today. I'm not sure if that is a good sign or not (or any at all), but I never felt anything with the letrozole so I have no frame of reference really.
