Re: February IUI

  • Seeing some of your follicle sizes make me wonder... when do you RE's usually trigger you?  Mine trigger as soon as they hit 18mm (ish).  I've read this is mature, but I wonder if we're not having success cause they're smaller.

  • @funnygirl34 my last RE would trigger me if I had anything 17+, keep in mind that follies grow ~2mm a day on avg so the should get a little bigger from scan to O time.

  • @funnygirl34 for both my IUI's so far we had 1 follicle at 17.9mm each time the day before the trigger (U/S Friday AM, trigger Saturday PM). I have also wondered if we aren't having success because we're not getting up to 19-20 or so before we trigger.

  • @krystal_istal welcome! My RE wanted at least two, measuring at least 20 mm.. to sort of double our chances. I didn't end up getting two that large but I'm with you on the cramping! My acupuncturist as well as my RE said it was a good thing. It means there is growth and movement. I have cramping specifically on the side of my large follicles the day of my IUI and the day after -- not much since. Could be the meds? Feel better and I'm sending baby dust your way!

  • @Imajin99 I would say all three would be viable. By the time you trigger and have your procedure more time would have passed and then 17 could easily turn into 18.

  • @mandmplus1 I hope so, still confused on RE saying there was only 1. Wish it had been my own RE.
@Paisley2015 My fingers are crossed for you.
@Funnygirl34.  I have taken clomid for 3 months and tried naturally and the side effects were okay, a lot of bloating and a lot of cramps during ovulation.  I was on menopur 225IU for 8 days.  It is quite expensive.  I am in Canada and each vial was 80.00 and I needed 3 vials a day.  I had no issue doing the injections and it felt like it gave me a lot of energy and I slept well.  It does cause some weight gain but I think its from the bloating.  I did the IUI just yesterday so will find out the results in 2 weeks.
  • @pawcall they told us the IVF would cost 20k-30k, out of pocket!  Thats insane.
We gotta try hard these next two months.

@funkykey my AF hasn't arrived yet either, thats so annoying. Shall we start March board?

I might go here too. I've done freeze all IVF last month and since I am in the "waiting" month before transfer, I might as well throw in an IUI because why not. I'm going to call tomorrow to see if they can squeeze me in.
  • @Imajin99 good luck! I had my first iui on Tuesday so we are in the same 2ww!

@bestofjoy just curious, why are you waiting a month to transfer? I am on iui #3 and if it fails I will be starting up ivf and am totally clueless about the process.

Question: I had the IUI done 2 days ago.  Is it normal to have cramps after?  They're like period cramps but of course my period is not due for two weeks. I also have soreness in my legs down to my feet, maybe just from mental exhaustion.  Oh and I keep shivering which I I usually do a day or 2 before AF.
Any other advice on the 2ww wait for an IUI would be helpful since this is my first one.

  • @imajin99 I had terrible cramps for 2 days during my last iui but my first and most recent iui's I had very little discomfort.

@brooklyngirl18 Not all the docs want you to wait a month between retrieval and transfer but some do, so that the body gets rid of hormones and recalibrates. For example, ovulation is usually delayed the cycle after retrieval as the body tries to figure out what was going on haha. Cysts are also common. Also, if you happen to have some OHSS, then it's definitely benching. I had mild/moderate OHSS with enlarged ovaries, fever, excruciating pains, high white blood counts, etc and my post ER recovery was 2 weeks. Additionally, if you do PGS testing, the results can come back 2 weeks after retrieval and by that time, you most likely have AF so miss the baseline US, etc.
  • Anyone on progesterone suppositories? Do you insert them in the morning or night? Any side effects? Tips?
  • @amanda_1182 I started them today, two days after IUI.  I took them in the early evening so a few hours ago and don't feel any side effects yet.  Will keep you posted if any side effects develop.

  • When was your IUI timing? Isn't it supposed to be the day after you detect your LH surge? I usually feel ovulation pains 24 hr after I get a positive OPK, which is probably roughly 36hr after LH surge, since it is supposed to happen a bit before it is detected in the urine.
  • @amanda_1182 I take them twice a day. Once at night and once in the morning. I've felt some cramping and they made me tired. The fun fact is they can cause AF to be late.. so it kind of makes it hard to gauge your cycle.

My RE suggested wearing a pad but I couldn't stand them -- cheap panties were the way to go for me!

  • @amanda_1182 I would suggest a panty liner because they are messy. I take them twice a day. Progesterone supplementation can give you all the early signs of pregnancy- cramping, bloat, sore boobs, etc but it varies by person.
@bestofjoy I have always triggered for IUI and not relied on OPKs, triggering is more accurate... but if your going the OPK route I think you call the day of a + and go in the next day...

Day 4 of clomid and now I'm wondering - literally everyone else I've seen does this CD3-7.  My RE prescribed it CD4-8.  Anyone know if this is a problem?

The clomid misery is real.  I've had this headache for 4 days straight now, I'm nauseous and dizzy all day, and yesterday I was absolutely furious at my FI over literally nothing.  Just, you know, existing.  And I'm on a teeny tiny dose!  @Londonsmom, I don't know how you're doing it on 200mg!

    ***TW****
My 6yo is having some major health issues - I had to rush him to the ER yesterday from school and spent the night there with  him.  He's home now, but he is being admitted Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday.  And of course Wednesday at 9:15 is my follicle check - so I need to have my FI stay with him at the hospital and hope they don't give us a hard time since he's not his dad.  I am of course freaking out about the timing, and freaking out about what's going on with him.   Things get easier eventually, right?

Hey ladies. I'm sorry to ask you this. and I apologize for the child mentioned.. I need some advice. So I have a RE appointment this Monday, but my daughters daycare is closed. Is it ok for me to take her to the appointment with me? Is that insensitive. I thought of it more like a success story because my first child came from IUI #3 back in 2013.

    Thoughts?

  • @Londonsmom - Does your clinic have a policy about it?  Mine has signs on literally every available surface saying that kids are not supposed to be there.  I'll say though that last cycle, I ran into the same woman with her toddler three separate times, and not for a "run in and grab something" errand, but for regular old appointments.

I would assume they wouldn't kick you out for doing it, but if there's ANY way to get ANYONE else to watch her, I'd do that.  It doesn't bother me to see other people's babies, but there were women in the waiting room with us openly sobbing.

  • Yeah if you can avoid bringing her, probably best, but I wouldn't totally screw over a cycle because of it, if that makes sense.  It's hard when things are so time-sensitive and childcare doesn't come through :-/

I'm freaking out a bit because I had to convince my ex to watch Mr. 6 for last month's IUI (I have full custody) without telling him exactly why.  I doubt that'll work again, and I'm really hoping I don't have to IUI on the weekend.  If my cycle is normal this month, of course, I'll be O'ing on a Sunday. :s
