  • @pawcall Thanks for including me in the chart, my HCG blood test is for Feb 28 and I will try not to do a HPT before then.

@paisley2015 Baby dust and fingers crossed!

wabash15 Thanks for the information on Progesterone supplementation, first time taking it and didn't even read the information in the box.

  • @pawcall I'm really sorry to hear about your son's medical issue and I am hoping it all gets settled quickly. I can't imagine how hard that is <3. as far as clomid, I think I've started it various days in the beginning of my cycle. I went on on day 2 and started that night and i've also gone in on day 3 and day 4 and started those nights so I don't think it matter much as long as it's early.

@Londonsmom  **tw child mentioned** I don't think my RE office has any signs up prohibiting bringing children but I agree with @pawcall, I'd try to find alternative care if possible. At my last appointment I saw a woman bring her 3 year old and thought it wasn't very considerate but things happen. It didn't bother me, I have a 2 year old at home, but I can see how it would be very hurtful to ladies who don't have kids yet. That being said, I am very aware of childcare issue and sometimes you don't have a choice. I don't think it's the end of the world but I'd try to find someone to watch him if possible.

  • I have a question... I just had an U/S this morning to check my follicles, and it looks like they've shrunk! At the last U/S I had an 11.4 and an 11 on the left side... but now we've got a 7, 7.8 and a 6.7 on the left. Has this happened to anybody? I started this cycle on Letrozole but wasn't responding so we switched to Clomid and I just wasn't expecting this. Thanks!

@krystal_istal Yes, this can happen. I've read about it on the IVF threads a lot, and when I had IVF myself, a few of my follicles regressed. I think there are ways to remedy it during IVF with adding different hormones/doses, don't know about IUIs.

  • @wabash15it seems really weird to me too! I can understand not responding at all, and only responding a little, but going backwards? I didn't think this worked like that.

@bestofjoy Thanks for the response. I feel better knowing this can happen in IVF, even if I'm just doing IUI, I'm less freaked out now. Still, it's really discouraging.

We're going back in for an U/S on Tuesday to see if anything changes, but if it doesn't we "have limited options" per my RE. Not sure what "limited options" are, but I don't like the sound of it at all.

The chances of success with IUI are just "lovely", isn't it? Ugh. I'm not even going to test this month, we have a less than 5% chance so meh. We have more of a male infertility problem than originally anticipated, but this wouldn't have been detected without looking at the IVF results. I seem to be ok, and originally we thought I was the issue. I'm going to do acupuncture though for the first time next week!

@Paisley2015 So sorry. Don't get discouraged though, it is expected that IUIs don't work right away. Keep trying.
  • When do you guys usually go in for an HCG or do a HPT? I usually just wait for my period to start. I would like to test as soon as possible so I can let my RE office know to submit the IVF prior authorization to insurance. Is it too early to test  12 days after IUI? Or 13 days?

    -Sugar
  • My doc has patients test 14 days post IUI. Which, for me, I get my period right about then. So yeah last month I started POAS way too early.

  • krystal_istal, My follicles didn't 'shrink' but they did just stop growing. My RE told me that's because they gave me estrace (estrogen) too soon. Are you taking anything like that to thicken your lining? That's the only thing I know of that could affect the growth of your follicles. So sorry this happened! How frustrating!

  • Just went in for my folly scan and the nurse couldn't decipher my results so she said she'd call the doctor and give me a call back this afternoon. The reason she doesn't know what to do is...I had a small cyst on my baseline and today I had one 21mm (which they think may be the cyst and not a dominant follicle) and 4 follies measuring between 11-14mm.
Lining was a 6.4 which sounded thin to me but she said it was fine and then obviously I researched and found it should be ok by the time we finally do this.
So what happens to a cyst? Will it burst? Or will they cancel the cycle because of it? And are four follies too many?
    This nurse literally said nothing...grrr

  • @SoonToBeMommaHowe, that's so frustrating you weren't given answers while you were there! You're CD 12, yes? I know my body takes a little bit longer for follicles mature so my non-medical guess would be that the 21 mm is a cyst and you're about 3 days away from your mature follicles being ready....3 days x 2 mm per day.
As for the cyst.... they don't often burst... only if they rupture so just be gentle and don't lift heavy objects and protect your abdomen from any 'rough-housing.' My RE says cysts typically go away on their own either with your AF (in my case) but hopefully you get a BFP after your IUI and it resolves on its own.  :)
As for 4 follies being too many, depends what size they are by the time you trigger and IUI. Your RE may talk about reduction and those options when you start but it'll heavily depend on the size of your follies by the time you trigger.
I hope you hear back from your nurse soon so you get the real answers!

  • @Knottie1445097207 yes cd12 and about a year ago when I first took letrozole I got +OPKs on cd15 & cd16 so i agree the large looking one is probably the cyst. Hopefully this sucker goes away in a cpl weeks one way or another!

Nurse called back saying they'd like me to go in tomorrow AM for a blood draw & ultrasound just to double check that it is in fact the cyst. So hopefully tomorrow there's some answers

  • @SoonToBeMommaHowe I second @Knottie1445097207 My very first IUI I ended up with a cyst that grew and my RE canceled my cycle it resolved by the next time we tried. As for 4 follies, if you are ok with the increased chances of multiples than its probably good. I think 4 is about the max most REs will trigger with, though I have heard of some triggering with 5 or 6 but I would not be comfortable with that many. GL and sorry your scan was so confusing

  • Alright this mornings appt provided a little more info but still confusing. Cyst has not grown, still 21mm but neither have the other follies (today they gave me more specific measurements than yesterday)
    R - 11, 13, 13
    L - 12, 12, 13
Lining - 10 (6.4 yesterday). The nurse said it really "fluffed up" overnight.

So now waiting for bloodwork results just to confirm that the 21mm is in fact a cyst and not a true follie. The nurse said they wouldn't cancel the cycle because of the cyst or potentially having 6 follies so idk if that's good or bad but it looks like we'll be doing this thing in a few days!

  • @knottie1445097207 I've not taken anything but the clomid and letrozole this cycle, and to be honest I'm starting to feel like we're going to have to just cancel this go round and try again next month. This is so frustrating. I do have one more U/S tomorrow, the RE wanted to give it a few more days to see if those follicles liven up, but I feel pretty deflated.  When the nurse called to schedule the appointment I asked her if the follicles can shrink and she just panicked and started rattling off the numbers from the last two U/S's. She kept saying "All I can tell is that you had these numbers on Monday, and these on Friday" ... like, YEAH because those are the numbers. I want to know what they MEAN. She told me to ask the RE, but the RE runs out of the exam room before I can usually sit up off the table... DH is going to go with me tomorrow, so hopefully between the two of us we can get some information.

  • Need a little advice...my REs office just called and left a vm (I was out to lunch with my ringer off) to say that my LH, progesterone & estradiol are all consistent with that "follie" being a cyst. But then they said they don't recommend proceeding with ultrasound monitoring, just bloodwork to try to catch the surge. Does it makes sense to just stop monitoring via ultrasound?? And if it doesn't make sense what do I say to the nurse in order to get the monitoring?

  • I'm feeling better about my not having had an ultrasound prior to my first IUI, as I had been having doubts since so many women on here have them before IUI. This morning I went in for my pre-IVF ultrasound and bloodwork (since we will move to IVF if this IUI doesn't work) and the RE was in the room to do it so I was able to ask questions. Since I don't do a trigger he doesn't do them for me, but since my IUI is in a couple of days, I finally get to share my follicle size like everyone else, lol! I had one follie at 21 and he said at this stage it's normal to have the one and everything including my endometrium looked really good so I have some relief there. Whew! I will start OPK tomorrow morning and will likely have IUI Wednesday morning or Thursday latest (they said based on what they saw today I'll probably get my surge tomorrow). Praying this IUI works so we don't have to do IVF.
  • I need to go buy myself a pineapple hehe, try it for the first time in the tww. And pomegranate juice.
  • GL to everyone testing in the next couple of days, and hope everyone's appointments go well!

Me - I am going in on Wednesday (which will be CD12) for an ultrasound, and we'll schedule IUI from there.  Last time, I IUI'd on CD13 so I'm trying to prepare myself for that.

I'm so freaking stressed, guys. I'm in the middle of a huge project at work, and I'm the project manager.  I'm out of the office tomorrow, sitting here in the hospital with Little 6, and will have to be out at least a half day on Wednesday because he'll probably still be in the hospital, and because I have that doctor's appointment.  And I'm assuming they may be scheduling an IUI for Thursday or Friday, so again, at least a half day off (our clinic is preposterously slow).  And Friday, I have to take 6 down to the hospital to meet with psych and tinker with his anti-crazy meds (I say this lovingly, I swear) so of course, half day.  I'm just freaking out, and feeling like I'll never be a productive member of society again.

  • @SoonToBeMommaHowe it sounds like your RE thinks blood test monitoring will be more precise given its hard to visually see the difference between your cysts and growing follies. That makes sense to me. I know it's harder for us not to have instant image so of our follies, but I'd say, trust your RE on this one and give your other follies a little more time to mature. Last cycle we cancelled the IUI when my follies didnt get bigger than 15. BUT! When I went in for an ultrasound when I was late for AF, there were clear signs I did in fact ovulate... they just didn't know when. So monitor your levels via blood and rely on that for a good time to trigger or IUI.thats my advice

  • @krystal_istal this is Manders formerly, "knottie." I'm so sorry about the call from the nurse about your "shrinking" follies. That is SUPER frustrating.  I think it's great your DH is going with you tomorrow. My husband and I always have better and more encouraging visits when we're together. It also helps to have two people hear the info. My advice: try to de-stress through good breathing and advocate for yourself at the appt. Ask if there's a way to save this cycle, or to monitor the follie growth in a few more days to see if they do liven up. Like I said to @SoonToBeMommaHowe  we cancelled my cycle last month only to learn my "stunted" follicles did in fact ovulate! Had I known, we may have done the IUI! Oh well! I wish you better luck tmw and thinking of you with some baby dust!

  • Hey everyone, I've been watching YouTube videos tonight about how to de stress during IUI cycles... it's the hardest thing, right!? How do you stop thinking about upcoming IUI? Any advice, ladies that could help? I'm already going outside a lot, taking long walks, listening to mystery novels.... any other tips for me?

  • @pawcall it looks like you and I may be on the same day! I started OPK testing this morning and expect my surge tomorrow which would give me a Thursday IUI, so we will see if I surge the same day as last month. I'm happy because if it was going to be today or tomorrow my husband couldn't have made it there and we'd have to use a frozen sample like last IUI, but now he can be there and we can use a fresh sample! Hoping that makes a difference this time.

Your work sounds stressful and I'm sending you wishes for strength to get through that while juggling 6 and this fertility stuff! I have been project manager for grants in the past and can relate!!!

@Manders85 for me I don't obsess about the IUI beforehand, I think because right now I know I can't control when my surge will be. For me, post-IUI is my difficult time and I get crazy impatient! My TWW is 18 days which royally sucks. What helps me is distraction and keeping a really full calendar. It's when I'm sitting thinking or awake in the middle of the night when I start Dr. Googling lol. Talking with friends and focusing on listening to THEIR drama is good because they don't know we're doing this so we talk about other things which is refreshing and helps keep my mind sane!
  • @Manders85 I wish I knew. It's so hard not to let this whole process take over everything.
