Anatomy Scans Thread

Re: Anatomy Scans Thread

  • Had my scan today, but baby boy was being stubborn and we didn't get to see his face! The doctor was happy with he did see as far as the baby is concerned, but he did notice that I have marginal placenta previa. He thinks it will move though, and we scheduled another scan for 10 weeks. He did do a transvaginal ultrasound to take a better look. Trying not to over think it all, as it seems fairly normal and even if I have to do a c-section, as long as he comes out healthy, that's what really matters!

  • @kcrocetto27 I had the same thing last pregnancy and by the next scan it had shifted enough out of the way for a vaginal birth! Try not to worry too much I think it's pretty common.
  • @kcrocetto27 I was told the same thing today by my high risk doctor who did not seem to have a care in the world about it and just said that I needed to get it checked at 28 weeks because it can take up to that long to move. Then my regular doctor called and put me on pelvic rest and wants another ultra sound when I see her in 4 weeks instead of 8 weeks. It was weird since one doctor cared and the other didn't. My high risk doctor even said "i do not have any restrictions for you yet unless we have the same problem at 28 weeks" Oh well the nurse with my regular doctor said it was to be safe because they did not want any bleeding. I guess better safe than sorry.

@amberp0927 oh man, we'll I go to my OB tomorrow and will see what she says. Aside from a fall, everything has been normal for me, so hopefully I won't need bedrest, but I'll do whatever is needed for baby boy!
  • @kcrocetto27 it's not bed rest it's really just no fun for our significant others no sex, no heavy lifting or pelvic exams as there is a small risk of bleeding. My high risk doctor did not have any worries about it and said she was pretty sure it would move by week 28 it was my regular OB that wanted the extra ultra sound and put me on the pelvic rest

  • @Wino0920 glad to hear everything is going well and you're happy and excited.
  • @MKRLTX we were going to wait to confirm our NIPT sex results with our a/s but now I'm tempted to go shop PBK crib bedding...  :D

I won't lie, we took advantage of a previous PBK sale and got some VERY girly bedding for this one...I did keep the receipts though just in case we get surprise news at my a/s today!
  • We had our scan today and it didn't go as perfectly as we would have hoped. The tech said everything looked perfect except that the baby had choroid plexus fluid in his brain. She said most of the time this works itself out and means absolutely nothing. However, there are instances where it doesn't and can mean some sort of chromosomal abnormality. SO we are waiting to hear from a specialist and will have to do some follow up ultrasounds. She said that since there were no other issues it's probably nothing, so fingers crossed it falls into that category.
  • @LMMama, I'm sorry it didn't go as planned. FX it resolves on its own.

FWIW, I had the same issue with DD1 and they sent us for a follow up scan at Vanderbilt about four weeks later, however, I had a bleeding issue right before the specialist and they did an ultrasound and it had resolved in the four weeks between our scan and the specialist appt.
  • Thanks @stankonia2014 ! I talked to the specialist and she said if they do 300 ultrasounds a week they probably see about 5 or 6 cases of this. She said since everything else looks perfect a follow up ultrasound should really be all that we need. Positive thoughts!
  • @LMMama  Positive thoughts for you for sure!

  • @LMMama thinking positive thoughts for you and little one.  Feel free to message me if you want or need to talk.  I'm sure as you've seen I've been down a dark rabbit hole with issues with my baby and am always here to talk and share my experiences!
  • @LMMama  Sending lots of positive thoughts your way.  I hope you get good news at a follow-up scan
  • @LMMama hoping it resolves itself and you get good news next time!
  • Had my anatomy scan yesterday, just got the call from my doctor and the results were not exactly what i was hoping for. She found 3 things of "concern". The first has to do with the placement of my placenta, which is really close to the cervix. This is the least alarming of the 3 issues, in my opinion, as there is no risk to the baby, just a risk that i may need to have a c-section if it doesnt move by the time of delivery. Other than that, they found 2 soft markers. The first, echogenic bowels, which apparently can be an indicator of a few abnormalities including Downs Syndrome and Cystic Fibrosis. OR the baby could have swallowed some blood or something and it could be nothing of concern. The second soft marker was Echogenic Intracardiac Focus, white spots on the heart, which can also be an indicator of Downs Syndrome. I did not have any genetic testing done at the beginning of my pregnancy so I am unsure of my actual risk, although the doctor doesnt seem terribly concerned about the risk for Downs given my age and general health. However, Cystic Fibrosis does run in my family so I am very concerned about the chances of that. The doctor seemed positive and tried hard to re-assure me (as she could tell i was fighting hard not to cry (and losing) but its so hard not to worry or think the worst. She is sending me to see a high risk specialist and talk to them more about the findings and options. So for now, I am just waiting for the call from them to schedule the appointment and find out more and trying to remain optimistic!!!

  • Thanks ladies! I had a NIPT test done today to see if it could provide any further info as well. The genetic counselor seemed pretty optimistic.
  • Thinking of you both @LMMama and @kscheich and hoping for the best!

  • we had our AS yesterday and everything looked good from what she could see, the heart wasn't quite clear and LO didn't want to show the goods, he/she kept its legs crossed the whole damn time. We do get to go back in 3 weeks for another check of the heart and hopefully he/she will not be as stubborn.  I just kept saying he/she is def our child! both DH and I are very stubborn people.  when i went into work today there were some that thought this was BS thinking that it is 100% that you find out the sex but noooo like i told DH you cant go in there and move the legs around to take a peak.  however unofficially the tech thought she could see the markers for a girl but we wont be running out for pink things just yet. i do think seeing LO on the screen DH finally sees this is real and gets a grasp of what is actually in the pictures this time as he hadnt been to an u/s yet
