Re: Weekly Randoms (1/2)

  • Having a baby during a blizzard is one of those things I have on my worry about list.  I am actually starting to think I want a list of days of the week and times that friends and neighbors are available to help with my other kids in case.   My parents are like 30 minutes north of us,  and 45 to the hospital and not good in an emergency.  My inlaws are closer to us distance wise so I think they are in charge of me.   My husband works 45 minutes away.

We live in an area of Ohio that has potential for mid Feb blizzards and polar temperatures.  Brrr.

Yuck to snow storms. My #1 labor concern... please don't be mid-blizzard. I'm up in Northern Maine--so there's a good chance. :(
Yup, that could very well be the case for us too. We already have about 40 inches of snow everywhere here and we've been hit with freezing rain the last 2 days. My H and I were just saying how that would NOT be the day to go into labor. The road conditions were horrendous.

  • @skiingstark Oooh I'm so sorry to hear that. A near miss on a snow day is the most demoralizing feeling ever.
  • +1 for being nervous about a blizzard baby. We live 50 mins from the hospital, my fiancé works 45 mins from the hospital, and if there's a blizzard I'm working from home anyway. And we live in the middle of nowhere where the roads aren't always plowed/treated right away. We're bound to get at least another 2 feet of snow between now and EDD.

  • +1 to worried about snow! We don't get a lot but when H turned 30 we got 10" (mid february!) we either have nothing and it goes away in a day or TONS and people lose their damn minds.

Also, there was an article last week abt a woman giving birth in her car with her doula and H on the highway I have to travel to get to the hospital! Apparently they got stuck in traffic!
  • @yogadevil I don't think the Halo bassinet is superfluous at all - maybe if you were talking about the Snoo...

My bank account would kill me  but it did cross my mind for a split second
  • @Xstatic3333 we've never been to an NFL game, let alone a Seahawks game, and H has REALLY been wanting to go... His work was giving away tickets today, and we didn't win, so I figured I'd look at tickets for sale. I was surprised they were so cheap (especially considering it's playoffs), and with the cash we have from parents for Christmas, I really feel like we should go and do something fun. If we go, we'll fly - and there is a tram that takes you straight to the stadium from the airport, so minimal walking involved. I'm sure the stairs in the stadium will suck, but I also know how much fun H would have finally seeing the Hawks play at CenturyLink Field.

I guess I should call my MW and get a note with my due date if we go, in case the airline questions how far along I am...

It sounds like you'd be good! That's a much easier situation than we have at Gillette. No trams of any sort for us, lol! Just long walks, usually in some sort of freezing rain. I'm also looking at being close to 37 weeks for my game, and you'll be 34. Very significant difference in terms of odds of going into labor and all that!

@madamerwin I would totally go if I were you! Unfortunately, the Ravens did not make the playoffs this year, but the year that they won the Super Bowl, I went to our only home playoff game. The atmosphere of the playoff game was so much more intense (in a good way!) than a regular season game. Definitely worth sitting in the freezing cold in my opinion lol. Also, I'm not sure if you have been to the stadium in Seattle, but the fans are totally covered from any potential elements lol. I've been to the stadium (we used to go to one away game a season) and it's very nice!

ETA: I should have read the other posts first lol but since you've never been, it's definitely worth the experience! Also, I'm pretty sure the stadium has ramps and/or an elevator (most do) so you wouldn't have to take the steps unless you wanted to.
  • Yeah I should definitely clarify that my walking concern isn't within the stadium, but the fact that my friend with tickets parks close to a mile away from the stadium. Ups and downs I meant at our seats during the game itself. Standing/sitting transitions are currently pretty tough on the ole' pelvis for me. Sounds like neither of these would be a huge issue for you. Playoff games are definitely a blast so I hope it works out for you!
  • @leslie1331 Ah man, that would have been a flush and replace situation for me. You have more chutzpah than I do, lol.

  • @SawyerRichardson I know right?  I love the style of it, but basically if I was going to spend that kind of $$ I would just get a night nurse and call it a day.
  • +1 for blizzard freak out. There is a blizzard pretty much every year in nyc in jan or feb. and i was born during a tropical storm, so i have a feeling this will be my just desserts.

We don't have a car (NYC) so we train it cab/uber it everywhere. We are planning to uber it to hospital when the time comes. It's about a 20min drive w/ no traffic. Our blizzard plan is if there is one in the forecast we are just gonna stay at a hotel nearby the hospital. If baby come then we are just around the corner and can get there very easily. If not then we get a little staycation.

  • Also worried about having a blizzard baby here (Southern Maine)! @krob we have the same blizzard plan! If it's close to my due date and there is a blizzard in the forecast we'll be staying at a hotel since we live an hour away under normal road conditions.

  • Waiting for lab work sucks. Doctor and I suspect that I've developed Cholestasis during this pregnancy. I had it with my last pregnancy, but now symptoms are presenting thenself a good 5 weeks earlier than before, which sucks. I'm Hoping it's just a fluke and all is well. Fingers crossed!!
  • @kirstynikole that sucks!! fx you get results back soon and everything turns out okay
  • Fx for positive results @kirstynikole

  • @lct2008 since I'm only 32 weeks, my OB would send me to the high risk OB to put together a  more detailed treatment plan, but their general protocol would be to monitor weekly, take a steroid for baby and then be induced at 36 weeks. If I had to deliver sometime before that, I would need to go to the hospital with the high risk OB an hour away, but if we make it to 36 weeks I could deliver at the hospital 10 minutes from our home. My concern is that our hospital does not have NICU, the nearest is the one that's an hour away.. so that will be a conversation with the high risk OB if we should just deliver there instead.

If if this does come back positive, It definitely changes our plans up but I'm just going to stay optimistic and handle it as we can!
  • Awww hopefully you get the results first thing tomorrow @kirstynikole! Sorry you have to deal with this again.
  • @kirstynikole that is so frustrating and a little scary. I'm so impressed with your great attitude! i hope the test comes back negative but if it doesn't it sounds like you have a good team and most of a plan already in place. Keep us updated!
  • @kirstynikole fingers crossed for you!

@poetryandoceans that's what kind of sold me on the Halo as well- fits better next to the bed and the swivel is so handy. It just seems overkill that we now have 4 different sleeping arrangements lol. But that increases the odds that baby will really take to at least one of them, heres hoping!
  • Hoping for good results for you @kirstynikole

Did we not do a UO today? Or did I miss it somewhere lol
