I'm with you @BumpasaurusRex and @PerraSucia. I'd prefer to be able to discuss politics like polite adults, which we always have when it has been brought up in the past.
Re. last night, I think the headline "Unprepared man repeatedly interrupts highly prepared woman" summed it up well from where I was sitting.
Hey I am all here for the politics discussion. I just know when last week's randoms thread turned to race relations in America there were some very strong opinions about how the topic doesn't belong on the board.
Personally I felt last night was sexism illustrated at its highest and most vibrant levels.
I hate that Hillary is a Clinton because it gives people an out to say they don't like her, when in actuality I believe most of it has to do with the fact that she's a woman.

Gotcha @krob. I was working for most of that discussion. What I saw seemed pretty thought provoking/intelligent but I know it's a tough topic. Maybe a politics chat thread? I'll defer to the group, but I'm just not sure avoiding political chatter completely is realistic in an election year.
Completely agree with your assessment btw. My H came around to that on his own a few months ago and I'm super proud of him for it.
@BumpasaurusRex I thought since I'm due close to the beginning of Feb that I'd be one of the earlier ones to get the US, turns out a lot of people still went first haha... it was taunting me! I'm excited for you to see your little one!

Mine was originally scheduled for last week but had to get bumped because of "overscheduling". I'm beyond anxious!
I think it makes the most sense to make separate threads for controversial things like political discussions. It seems some people really don't like opening the randoms to find topics like that being discussed. I don't think anyone would mind being able to see a thread labeled as such and avoiding or entering as they pleased.

I agree, I'd appreciate it being in a separate thread then those who wish to participate in it can do so and other people can avoid it. It's not that I don't think we can talk about it as adults it's more that I just see enough of this on FB and hear enough at work and I appreciate this being a place where I don't need to worry about it.

Just for some insight, January 17 had a huge blowup where a regular poster basically said godless liberals were ruining America, and that Trump was the only viable option for true Christians. It got... super tense. It's one of the main reasons I'm here. I think there's space between that and respectful discussion, which everyone here does seem to excel at, but I think having it in a separate thread is wise for people who want to avoid the whole thing all together. Like, for example, Canadians like me. The whole thing just gives me a headache, and I don't envy those of you who have to mark a ballot in November...
If someone wants to call me a godless liberal who is ruining America go ahead and tell me now so I can stop giving a fuck about anything else you say too.
Totally fine with a separate thread for political stuff here. I'd rather chat with you intelligent ladies (from all over the spectrum) than the FB hordes.
DD is being reasonable to an almost spooky degree about the baby coming in February. "I was a baby, but now I'm a big girl! Baby will get my bed! Baby will come after Christmas and need lots of time and help! I'm a big helper! Baby is in mommy's belly and is growing! I can't jump (well, more like flop) on mommy's belly anymore because of baby, I be careful!"
I know 80% of this is due in no small part to Daniel Tiger, and is no guarantee she will be the same amount of calm and collected come February (or even sooner if my belly keeps her from sitting on my lap for story time). But I kind of melt every time she tells me things she as a big sister can do and what the baby will be capable of (or need help with) once it gets here....
I am up for current events/politics thread. But I have to comment and can't let this pass. Anyone who equates Donald Trump to God and Christians clearly needs their head examined.

I would like to see a current events thread. The people who want to discuss politics/ race relations etc can go there, and us people who want to use the Bump as our place of happy oblivion can do so. But whatevs, I'm not post policing today.
Agreed about the current events thread. Could we make a monthly thread and not weekly? I feel like there's soooo many weekly ones already and I doubt we would need a new thread each week.
Whoever starts the the current events thread could just make it for October as we're already at the very end of this month.

Too much talk about the the thread with no action! I don't think it needs to be weekly - we have SO many of those. I'm going to start one now to move the debate convo over.
@BumpasaurusRex You're not the last! My A/S is Thursday, but we did cheat a little with an elective U/S a couple of weeks ago to find out that we're having a girl.
@grapeskittles4lyfe Do you know roughly what season/episode that Daniel Tiger is? My kids seem to be getting it pretty good, but I feel like the more exposure they have the better and they really like Daniel Tiger.
I have a question about something from my anatomy scan and I don't know where to post it. Does that kind of thing go in the appointments thread because I feel like that's for appointments not necessarily results?
Also I have an idea of what I want to do for Halloween and I can't find anything to wear for it. We leave for our cruise in a couple weeks and I need our costumes for that.

People have been saying the appointments thread, but I think we should have an anatomy scan questions thread since we are all doing them around now.
Just updated the sex thread but we are having another sweet boy!! I cannot wait to tell DS tonight that he's getting a baby brother. Little dude is measuring right on track and was moving a ton.
Now I get to organize all of DS' old clothes and start working on a name. Eeek!
So a student came up to me today and asked me if I was pregnant. When I said yes, he responded with "I think it's better for the female body physically to wait until mid 30's to start having children."
Like. Wtf. There's nothing wrong with having babies in your 20s 30s 40s. It's none of his business how it affects me physically.

Screw that guy. Rude to ask. Rude to respond in that way. Fail him. Get him expelled.
@Patience7150 I teach physchology at the local community college and this guy was late 40's maybe early 50's. Haha not quite as cute as a 7yo saying it...
It's so weird when men make comments about pregnancy and our bodies right? I had a man ask me if I was having a girl, and if I've had a previous child "because he could tell by the way I'm carrying". Like WTF??

Wow I was initially thinking it was a small kid too and was like what does this kid think he knows about having a baby lol... 40s-50s though that is not cute at all, that is quite awful!

I think it is weirder when men comment too. Sometimes they come across as creepy to me. Dh showing me off to people and rubbing the belly and saying how I am showing is totally fine though I also am not cool with random people trying to touch my belly. It's weird....old women say it is good luck, but if I don't know you, "don't touch me or my baby you weirdo" is my opinion lol.
Also creepy - men trying to discuss breast feeding with me. I understand your wife may have been a champion milk producer, but I don't really want to talk teats with anyone other than DH and my doctors.
