Re: Moms who bump in the night

  • This is crazy expensive, but it is what several hospitals and NICUs are moving to using. It's supposedly great for soothing.

  • DH overslept so he was able to talk to the guy. I didn't hear any apologies but he didn't argue. Tried to small talk about baby coming soon as he was leaving and I was just like " Yeah. Literally any second now." with my not amused face. He probably won't be able to come back and fix it for another week or something so there's a good chance baby will be here. Grr I'm going back to bed.

  • Tried to post when I was up at 4:30 this morning (after being up at 3 and not being able to go back to sleep), but my phone wouldn't let me. My pets also decided I didn't need to sleep in and made sure I was out of bed by 7:30. Really hoping my appt today has some good news!

We had that rainforest bouncer with my DD. Loved it. But passed it on to a friend.

We we also had that same jumper and got rid of it. That I won't be replacing for a few months since we won't need it right away.

Right now we have a RNP and a hand me down boppy vibrating chair. I'm contemplating a mamaroo to replace the huge swing (FP snuggle puppy looking hand me down) and/or a mamaroo bouncer to replace the boppy chair. It's hideously pink and we're having a son (just looking for something a bit more neutral).
  • @nomoremiss!, so far our little guy is pretty content as long as he is fed and has a clean diaper.  If he turns or to be colicky or very fussy I think a few hundred bucks for a mamaroo might be worth my sanity.
  • My in laws said they would like to get us a bigger gift of our choice once the baby is here. We may just have took with the mamaroo. I am nervous to spend so much money on one thing that the baby may not even like though.

We have the mamaroo, and something similar to the rainforest bouncer (but MUCH cheaper than the mamaroo). DS1 used the bouncer way more often, so I would wait and see what your LO likes. It may save you a couple hundred bucks! I'm actually hoping this LO prefers the mamaroo, just so I can feel better about having spent the money on it!

  • @midwestbaby you could always look at baby consignment stores. There's one by us and I've seen some in there a few times. Or some buy/sell/trade sites on Facebook or even craigslist. We bought our swing from a store called once upon a child, it's a nice graco swing that retails around $100 and we paid $30. We just couldn't justify dropping a ton of money on brand new baby gear when there are so many places where you can get almost new things.

Ill also say when we had DD I wanted everything brand new so I completely understand not wanted to buy used.

for bouncers, DD really loved the Baby Bjorn Balance bouncer.  It's on the pricier side, but it is useful for years.  It has a few recline settings and can be used as a toddler chair later on.  Also very easy to wash!

We also have loved the 4moms Rockaroo.  It's a little less expensive than the Mamaroo and doesn't have as many motion options.  However I read a lot of reviews on both before DD was born, and it seemed that the Rockaroo got more favorable reviews.

We also have the Graco Little Lounger, which is like a bassinet and rocker.  It's very similar to the Rock n Play but has the ability to recline completely flat, which I think makes the transition to crib easier.

  • @midwestbaby i'm in the process of searching on craigslist for a mamaroo. I can find the 2015 version there for anything from $130 - $200, but no one seems to be answering my emails :(

i'm frustrated because i put the mamaroo on my registry, and my family friend made a big deal out of doing all this "research" and getting us the 4moms bouncer/vibrate one instead. I appreciate that she did all this research, but she spent new ($120) something that now requires batteries and/or manual bouncing. the whole point of the mamaroo is so i can set it up while doing dishes, laundry, cooking, etc. I dislike when people go off registry for something like that... especially since I specifically did my own research and picked it out! I would have rather taken the $100 and put it towards the one i want.
  • @caitlinj187 could you exchange the bouncer/vibrate one she got you for the mamaroo you want?  Perhaps with a coupon you'll pay less out of pocket than you would for a used one.  (Another plug for the Rockaroo -- it's great and cheaper )

  • @PeachGal23 i totally would do that if it was my side of the family, but unfortunately (as in many families) people become too sensitive and offended too easily, so most likely i'll just keep it for traveling, and get the one i want on my own. not worth the potential hard feelings (even if they are unjustified  )

    We got this one:

Tiny Love 3 in 1 Rocker Napper Red

We also have a swing, in case LO likes a more dramatic motion. I like the fact this one folds flat into a bassinet without removing the baby - I'm hoping that will ease the transition to the crib. We were in the process of shopping for a bouncer or rock n play, and we won this one for free at a baby event, so hoping it works out.

  • @midwestbaby I love garage sale and friend finds! Here we have a site called Bisman and I found my changing table and a brand new Stokke stroller on there. Do you have any local sites that you can use?

    @AliKay20 soooo stinkin cute!

@kristynmac I browse some local sale Facebook pages here and haven't come up with much luck that way. I find that the city wide garage sales are the way to go. I work PM shifts so I always get to go early in the morning in the first day (Friday) that these sales are open. I've also got a playmat and tons of brand new like clothes. This kid is set!

  • We have that rainforest bouncer too, and the high chair. We bought them new when my 6 year old was born. Baby Levi is actually living in the bouncer now that he got a bili blanket. He has jaundice now and he has to wear this "blanket" constantly. It's a pain, but the bouncer has made it so much easier.
  • We are going to try and bath baby at night in hopes she sleeps longer through the night. @entropicallyfavored I recently started doing skin to skin again after bringing her home and love our bonding time! I think her night and day are definitely switched. She woke up every 2 hrs last night. It was tough! Hope the bathing at night really works! She tends to knock out for the entire day when we bath her first thing in the morning.
  • @AliKay20 creating a nighttime routine made a big change in DS's sleep. We started at a few weeks old doing bath, songs and boob at the same time every night (6:45/7). After starting that routine, we were getting 2, 4hr stretches, each night, until he was 8weeks (when he started sleeping from 11-5/6). It made life much more liveable. I'm not sure if it was the routine that made a difference, but we didn't change it for 6 months because it kept us consistently getting sleep!

  • @jkershaw2013 I always think "hmm, maybe . . ." when I get up too.

  • @AliKay20 @Bookhousegirl We will also be trying these methods.  Anything to get baby to sleep more.  Tonight he was up from 10:30pm-4:00am despite us trying every trick in the book, and that is pretty standard for him.  I feel like I might actually die from physical exhaustion.
  • Up with a splitting headache. I can't even bump properly because the screen hurts my eyes. Ugh.

Thank you @entropicallyfavored I chugged a ton of water and it seems to be going away. Thank goodness. I hope you get some nice long naps in today!

  • I hope you feel better @midwestbaby , @AliKay20 that is totally something I would do. My husband has mentioned when he goes back to work he might go sleep in our extra bedroom (since I will have our LO in our room for a little bit). I get so fired up! I'm like ugh you can help in the middle of the night! Even though I'm planning on EBF he can still do a diaper change or something!
  • @AliKay20 that's great. thanks for the tip, i'll keep it in my back pocket. Although my DH can tend to sleep through ANYTHING, so more likely he'll just be snoring next to me while i'm feeding the baby.
  • Ha! @Car0liiine I think we did fairly well this week with the random threads. I just don't think this is a heated group when it comes to FFFC and UOs.

  • Water has not broken yet, but I'm pretty sure I've been losing my mucus plug bit by bit all day. I had a cervical check yesterday so maybe that started it all

  • Def could have been triggered but a cervical check. My fingers are crossed for you! I wish my water would just break at this point so I'd know when I got to my hospitals OB triage area they couldn't send me home. I'm supposed to work at 7am .. not sure what to do .. go in and just labor through a 4 hour shift?! I work at the hospital I'm delivering at. I guess I have a few hours to figure it out!
