  • Well, I am finally abe to catch up with my bumping because I am stuck in the ER waiting for the OB attending physician. My c-section stitches pulled and started bleeding.

Happily my Mom is staying with us so she can watch the newborn LO and we did not have to risk exposing him to ER germs, but it looks like I will be home just in time for his 4-7am cluster feeding.

I am so tired and it gas been a he'll of a week. But the LO is worth it.

I've been sitting here just staring at the baby for like 20 minutes. I know I have to wake him to eat, but he had a big day and looks so peaceful.
I hate having to wake my LO to feed him. I know why we have to, but it just feels wrong!
  • Anyone have tips on waking baby to feed? They just brought her to me aND she was so sound asleep. I undressed her, put her skin to skin, rubbed her, and it still took me forever to wake her enough to latch and she's not sucking very long before going back to sleep

Taking her clothes off, changing her diaper. Don't hold her skin to skin to wake her, that just makes her more sleepy. I also noticed the LC and maternity nurses would rub my son's face and chin to get him to suck when he started to fall asleep. I still do that to him to keep him going. But there were times I just couldn't wake him so I let him sleep another hour and would try again.
  • @cait5413 I agree with @stephanie7693, the diaper change is what works best for us.  If baby is swaddled, try unsaddling them to change their temperature.  Some lactation consultants showed us a few other tricks, but I'm not sure about their efficacy since we usually go diaper-change route:
    -light bottom of foot massage
    -gentle tummy massage
    -tickling the ribs
    -stroking the spine

    Good luck!

Our LC said we could go as far as a wet wash cloth on the feet or even a wipe.

  • Hey ladies! I'm awake again... I have been for a few hours. Our 6 year old decided he couldn't sleep,  so he came to our bed. That hasn't happened in a LONG time, since I usually send him back to his room. DH is a softie though and just let's him climb right in between us. Then just as I was getting back to sleep, I heard this loud noise, and realized that nearly half the ceiling tiles in our room were falling, on me and my side of the bed!  Our house is old, and I wanted to replace them anyway,  but I don't have time to deal with this crap just over a week before my due date. I don't think they were properly installed to begin with.  Thankfully they fell now though, and not after baby, since a bunch of them fell into the crib. So now we have to scramble to just put up a few sheets of drywall before I go into labor.... oh, and i lost my mucus plug yesterday,  at 38w 4d. I'm now laying in bed with the same 6 y/o that I didn't want sleeping with DH and I. I just want to go to sleep!!!!!
  • Yikes, @ShanRum3 ! You're right, better now than on baby!

    ..>..>.>>
  • @Edsilva14, try skin to skin.. might help her relax more.
  • @ShanRum3 if u do skin to skin and she falls asleep then how do you get clothes back on her? Or let her be naked?

  • I would let her be naked.. just swaddle her.

2 weeks out here, awake and a little freaked out little bit won't move much. Finally got him thoto wiggle but it has taken some time.  He has had decreased movement over the past week, still weirds me out.

@shanrum3 that would have totally freaked me out!

Edited because my words were eaten by tb
  • @ShanRum3 Holy crap, that sounds like a terrifying thing to wake up to. Glad y'all are ok!
  • @Mfuller76 Yes, it was terrifying!  Hubby said, "I had a feeling that would happen some day" It definitely scared the $h!T out of me!
  • @ShanRum3

Omg! So lucky LO isn't here yet! Wow that's scary.

    @sbelle474
The decreased movements freak me out at night. Ah, the anxiety is at an all time high. Currently having an NST and LO is moving like crazy, phew. But at 2am it was nerve racking.
  • Eek! So glad everyone's okay!! @ShanRum3
  • @shanrum3 so glad everyone was ok and no baby yet. Hopefully the fix is quick and it won't happen again.
    Pregnancy Ticker

  • @ShanRum3 I'm going to have my phone close by in case it's go time for baby boy. Hope you feel better & happy bday!
  • I've been mia on this board since moving and starting a new job in July. Things have been crazy to say the least. I'm  currently working my last 24 hour shift before they took me off the schedule until November.  It's home call starting at 5pm but I had to go in to the hospital from 8-1130 to do a consult. Fingers crossed I won't get called in again tonight!  I'm so over this..
  • @ShanRum3 I felt a little off on Sunday afternoon/evening, and the baby popped out at 4:44 Monday morning. It was the only sign I had that labor was coming, and we only realized that in hindsight. Good luck!
  • I thought weekend nights were for getting sleep. So much for that
  • @Mfuller76,  I realized in hindsight with DS1, too. I'm feeling a little better after a few hours of sleep,  but still not great.  We'll just have to see what this day brings.  I'm supposed to work noon to close today. I'm hoping to be in labor or something.... I'm so over working right now.  6 more shifts to go.
  • 3am scheduled insomnia time. At least my body is consistent with something at this point I suppose. I am currently snacking on crackers and hoping for a nice relaxing weekend off. It's my last one off until my due date in two weeks. Kinda surreal.

I had a lot of BH today and DH kept asking me if they were the real deal or not during dinner. I told him because they don't really hurt and I only feel them in my stomach. He would like baby to stay put until Monday because we have an appointment to get my car fixed then. Ha! I told him I can't exactly hold her in if she decides to come early. But I think she is really good at faking me out at his point that I am not sure when I will know it is go time unless my water breaks.

Ive been having a few good BH here and there, but dr said today if he had to guess, I'll definitely make it to at least my 39 week appt next week so here's to another week of insomnia!
  • @CaitlinJ22 mmm ice cream. I wish we had that in the house.

I think I may be one of the only ones here not interested in the Olympics. Although I am having a hard time concentrating on any television these days.

  • So my parents came up to meet Caia and are staying the night. Of course tonight our a/c stops working!  We just installed a brand new unit at the end of May so there is no reason for it not to work. And there is no error message. It just won't run. Th coil isn't frozen, the pan hasn't overflowed, and of course we didn't discover the problem til 11 pm and no one at the cimpact is answering the phone. At least it Rained today or we really would be in trouble with the temperature. But it is warm enough that I don't want to swaddle her for fear she'll get too hot which means rhus far she will not sleep unless we're holding her. Sigh

  • I'm sorry about your AC!  This just happened to me last week and after a $150 service call I found out my the thermostat just needed new batteries. So many other things we could spend money on!  I hope you get it fixed soon!!!
  • @slycat apparently  it blew a fuse INSIDE the unit, so they replaced it and it works like a charm. It was probably caused by a short though, and I am not sure if they found that. (I was napping and then feeding Caia while the guy was here and now hubby is napping so I am not sure of the details). If they didn't, it could happen again. But at least it works now and we can all get some sleep.

Protonox should be available over the counter...
Interesting. Midwife said she had to prescribe it to me. Maybe it is the mg amount I can't get OTC?

Stuck in box.  It's the same as Prilosec OTC. It's a 20 mg dose.  Sometimes 40 mg is prescribed,  but usually for me severe conditions like ulcers.  It might be cheaper with insurance with a prescription.

And obviously I misspelled Protonix in the original post.
  • @Nikkoli98 I googled it out of curiosity and it does need a presciption for some reason. I started on 20 mg and she increased it to 40 since I couldn't eat hardly anything and was losing weight. I will say for a months supply with insurance it's a whopping 5 bucks.

  • Here I am, up at 3am scratching like someone dumped itching powder all over my bed and clothes. Is it Thursday yet?
  • A has been on my boob so much tonight that my Fitbit didn't even track that I got in bed and first fell asleep 3 hours ago.

Eeek, you are abolutely right.  Apparently I got omeprazole and pantoprazole confused!!!  (But the are sister drugs.)  I'm going to chalk it up to 3.5 weeks of sleep deprivation...
  • DH put baby in bassinet at 12:30 AM but baby girl had her eyes wide open in there lol. I got in bed but held her while pinning some postpartum work out stuff and whaddya know? It's close to 2 AM now and she's been asleep but I'm contemplating whether I should sleep now or continue pinning since she will be hungry and wake up by 3 or 3:30 AM. There goes the grunting right now though - perhaos her grunts mean different things at different times - like right now, she's pretty full but maybe has reflux or gas.
