Did our hospital tour last night. The unit is very nice and most of the policies comply with what I'm looking for. Got to see a brand new baby getting weighed in the nursery.
But, uh, it made me super nervous. Dude, I've done this before. Unnecessary anxiety!
I'm having BTDT anxiety too! I suddenly feel like I don't remember how to do anything. What's swaddling? How often do they eat/sleep again? Do I have everything I need? Holy crap, how am I going to do this with a 3 year old??
I tried talking about my feelings with DH right after we crawled into bed last night. I realized halfway through spilling my guts that he was asleep...
That's why I'm so thankful I have the ladies on this board to commiserate with because I have no one else to talk to.
Everyone says there's no manual for newborns. Except there are. The internet and social media and blog posts create a million manuals so you question every last decision you make.
I was just thinking last night that I REALLY wish all of us could go out for cocktails in October. We could wear our profile pictures (although I don't really have one) as name tags!
UnwritteN12 I feel you on the irritability! lack of good sleep and just overall pains and hurts have not made me a pleasant person to be around. I told DH last night not to take it personally and to just go with the flow for the next 8 weeks.
Me: 32 DH: 31
TTC #2 since January 2018
Baby #1 DD Born 8/25/2016 BFP: 8/11/18 Due: 4/26/18
DH and I have mutual friends who are having their baby today!!! I got so unbelievably excited when she text me saying the epidural was in. It made me so excited to meet our LO!
Just had a 31 week appointment.. all is well. Fundal height at 33-34cm, so still a bit ahead. Interested to see if they'll do a growth check during my ultrasound next week...
So I noticed what looked like the start of an infection in one of DDs teeth so I took her back to the dentist to get it checked out. If you followed my last post she had a nasty fall on Friday at school.
Anyways, we got her on antibiotics but her three other top teeth are pretty loose. The dentist said if she takes another serious tumble those bad boys are coming right out. She told us to come back after the round of antibiotics for another X-ray to check for damage but it looks like all the three other top teeth might need to be removed. I'm hoping the teeth tighten back up as they do most times after kids fall.
Can I officially have a breakdown now or should I wait? I have an appointment with another dentist next week for a second opinion. I can't imagine my 3 year old with no top teeth for 5 plus years. Speech problems? Mean kids at school?
trust me I know there are WAY worse things my kid could have happen but I can't help to feel so bad for her.
Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. @Sbrown721! How exciting!
I don't have a ton of advice regarding maternity leave, but I'd go into it with the plan to ask for at least 12 and treat the whole thing like a negotiation. If I were in your shoes, where a company may not have a set standard, I'd probably actually ask for 16 weeks off and see what I can get!
@fireflygirl12 - I agree with your 3 y.o - cotton candy is the best. I had some this weekend, too and just could. not. stop. I swear I almost bit DH's fingers when he went for a peice of mine.
@seitzy3 sorry to hear about the dental news. I hope those teeth tighten back up for her. Ugh! I hate the dentist for procedures so I can't imagine a LO in there having the teeth removed. I had some teeth removed a little later in childhood (7-9?) to help make space for other teeth. It wasn't fun. So I hope she has better luck!
Growth scan this morning went well and both baby girls look awesome. Now I only have one therapy client at work and then I'm going home to do some organizing BY MYSELF and then out to dinner with a friend. I love you, toddler, but you like to break my stuff.
@seitzy3 So sorry to hear about your LO's fall and ensuing dental issues! I hope her teeth tighten back up. Not sure it's any consolation but my cousin lost his two top front teeth really young (around a year old) so he was basically toothless for his entire childhood. I don't remember anyone ever making fun of him for it or anything like that. As his cousin, I thought it was super cute and loved that about him.
Normal, yes... woulda been boring if I hadn't brought my 1.5 year old along, and of course the appointment was right around nap time. He did lots of drawing, climbing on the exam table and pretending to measure things with the paper measuring tapes. He has since been napping since the car ride home at 11 (nearly 3 hours). Life is good!!!
Lurking around on the June board- there was a thread about neglected husbands, never in my life have I wanted to hug DH more. Geez I just don't understand why woman let men treat them so badly.

That was depressing. I'm feeling the urge to give DH an extra big hug too.
Is anyone else craving ice? Like wanting to chew on it constantly? No? Just me? The ice machine on our fridge is awful. So I generally ask DH to run to the gas station around the corner and fill my 56 oz. mug up with ice and I fill it with water at home from our Brita. Lately though, screw adding the water. I just want to chew the ice!

Oh me me! My favorite ice is when it's been sitting in my Yeti for a while. It gets soft and easy to chew

Have they checked your hemoglobin? When I was anemic, I ate ice non-stop. I knew the restaurants with the good soft ice, I used to let it melt on my counter so it would get to the right texture...I was out of control. It could totally just be the heat or a pregnancy thing, but apparently it is a common symptom of anemia. I had no idea. Now ice repulses me...so bizarre!
Ladies with the intense cravings, definitely get that checked out with your OBs. It's known as pica and is common in pregnancy but can be a sign of an underlying issue.

I do have anemia but I am taking extra iron. Maybe that's why I'm digging the ice lately
The carpet got installed in the nursery this afternoon. While they were here, I got a call from my brother. My SIL's dad had an aneurysm in the middle of the night. SIL drove to KY (we're in IN) with her sister at 1 in the morning, and they took him off life support today. I lost it when he told me. They've been together for 11 years. I knew her dad well. But more than that, I feel for my SIL. Her mom died when she was 13, and her dad has had some heart and lung issues in the last year. I know she has been scared this was going to happen. This SIL is one of my best friends. I have no idea what to do for her, if anything. For now, I told my brother to tell her I send my love and sympathy. We've offered to let their dogs out so they can take as much time as they need down there. I also called my mother for my brother and relayed from him to leave SIL alone until she contacted her (my mom would have been texting and calling her constantly and likely saying the wrong things).
Many poor husband has been very "neglected" this pregnancy but never once has he whined about it. We have seriously had sex TWICE since the BFP. The last time being 13 weeks ago. First I was on pelvic rest for a SCH and then with my surgery for my stint.
This is pregnancy has been tough and he understands that.
@camichael84 I'm so sorry to hear about your SIL's Dad. My heart sunk reading your post. I'll be thinking of her and her family as well as you and yours.
@camichael84 I'm so sorry for everyone involved having to go through that!
re the June thread, that made me feel so much better about DH. I've been thinking he's been a bit of a TW lately, but that gave me quite a bit of perspective.
@Sbrown721 yes, please to the cocktail(s). October seems so far away... clearly I'm living in another world (aka in denial that a newborn will be shooting out of me in ~10 weeks)
@camichael84 I gave you a love it, and then thought that might seem like I love your post but I meant it as love and support. I'm so sorry for your family.

July: Patriotic Fails
But yeah, baby can bake as long as he/she wants up to 42 weeks as far as I'm concerned! I'm sure I'll be singing a different tune come week 40 tho!
The June thread though...wow.
