Re: May Randoms Thread

  • @marajay6 Glad you're husband helps with the all nighters. It helps a lot. We used to trade off with one of us sleeping on the couch while the other rocked until we realized that was silly and the non-rocker should just go to bed.

  • I'm addicted to soda. Omg I know it's so bad but I just crave it so much.
trying to quit soda was harder than quitting cigarettes

  • I love pop!  I am a Diet Pepsi fan but since being pregnant both Coke and Pepsi taste funny to me and now I have fallen in love with Sunkist (only orange pop with caffeine).
  • I don't know - I'm from the Midwest (grew up in WI, live in IL now) and it's always been soda to me...

  • @JennM205 I've always heard pop in IN. I have always just assumed it was the whole Midwest, but maybe I'm wrong about that.

  • @camichael84 It may be that there's mixed use...I've definitely heard people around here (especially WI) say pop but I think soda might be slightly more common.  Though, honestly, I'm really not sure!  Maybe I just hear "soda" since that's what I say...now I'm curious, though!!

LOL I love the soda/pop talk (i'm in florida it is called soda). I am a lover of soda and always have been, DH just doesn't get it. I limit myself to 1 a day tops but I always have it as a snack and not really as a water replacement. I go through periods where I quit it altogether but then I always go back.

Pepsi> coke but only for the regular stuff. Everything else is coke. All time favorite is Cherry Coke!

  • @Jenn205 and @camichael84 - Everyone I know from WI is firmly in the "soda" camp. My university had a large Wisconsin population so I have been in a lot of trivial MI vs WI arguments.  And I believe that IL is much more inconsistent with pop vs soda.

  • In MN, I definitely grew up saying "pop" but with the internet and easy access to communicate with places all over, I've learned to be more accepting to using "soda" too. I use both pretty regularly.
  • In OK, I use and hear both soda and pop. Because Oklahoma doesn't really know where it belongs...are we the south? Are we the Midwest?

Also, no Coke, no Pepsi...Dr Pepper anyone?
  • DH and I have this "argument" all the time, even after 14 years together (always in good fun!). He's Team Pop, I'm Team Soda. And, luckily, I've won the kids over and they are also Team Soda. Suck it DH!

Dr. Pepper has been my weakness this pregnancy. Usually I have to mix Coke and Diet Coke together since neither one tastes right alone to me. I've noticed though that Coke is one thing that gets my heart racing, so I stay away from it.

  • I'm in NY - we are a mixed breed.   Southern portion of state is Soda.   Northern portion is Pop.   It's very one county to the next here as to how it's referred to.   I find this hilarious as every other state seems to be state wide.  But no, NY has to debate on everything including how we reference our beverages.

The same thing goes to what this is:

Half the state says 'lollipop', other half is firmly in the 'sucker' camp.

  • @diagonalley Not in the Midwest.
It is 100% soda in Wisconsin.  Those crazy people from Illinois incorrectly call it pop.  Just one of the many things they do incorrectly.

Half and half in PA. Eastern side is soda and western side is pop. Not really sure where the dividing line is. I went to Penn State where it's a mish-mosh of Pennsylvanians so I heard it all.

  • I've always said soda but I know a lot of people here who use "coke" for every type. Not unusual to ask for a coke and get asked oh what kind? Dr Pepper???

I am definitely a Coca Cola fan but my husband had to buy the new Pepsi 1893 this last weekend and it was pretty amazing! Tasted more like Coke to me than a normal Pepsi. I also do love Mountain Dew however and have had several cravings for it this pregnancy.

I actually almost typed soda instead of pop (though it still doesn't sound right to me) to avoid confusion. I'm finding the responses on who says what interesting, so I'm glad I didn't.

  • I grew up thinking all sweet carbonated beverages were cokes.
  • @LakeR2014  ahh yes, on both the soda/pop and the suckers/lollypop.

  • I never realized there was a sucker/lollipop hard line.  I've always used the words pretty interchangeably kind of, more 'suckers' with my friends and lollipop with parents.

Cherry coke is the bomb dot com. It's my go to caffeine drink when I need it.

@MrsVoorhees I live just 10 miles from Dr Pepper headquarters so I know what you mean. Tons of restaurants only have Dr Pepper. Big fan though :)

Ps. Mr Pibb just needs to go away. There is no room for you in the soda world.

  • Agreed @PoodleDoodleOoo Tootsie Pops and Dum Dums are suckers but anything fancier is a lollipop.  Lol...  Though I love that DD calls everything a lollipop...or "yoyipop" rather.  :)

  • My random of the day is that I'm a Green Bay Packers fan and DH (who is very anti-Green Bay Packers) picked the name Mikah for this LO. Our son's name is Clay. It just dawned on me this morning that both kids share names with Packers players (Micah Hyde and Clay Matthews) and not intentionally. I cannot wait to bring this up to him, after she is born and the name is on the birth certificate, of course.  :D
  • @COmama87 I don't know if I knew you were a Packer fan.  But I like you even more now.  ;)

  • @PoodleDoodleOoo @JennM205 I'm with you on the suckered vs lollipop. I use them both, but a lollipop is a fancy sucker.

Also, Jenn, your daughter's way sounds so cute.

  • @COmama87 & @JennM205 *shakes and hangs head as a Vikings fan*  ;)

In all seriousness though, I do like both of those names, Mikah especially. But yes, tell DH after the ink on the birth certificate dries!! LoL!

I grew up in Ohio before moving to Illinois and it's definitely pop.  No question.

As for suckers vs. lollipops, I agree with @poodledoodleooo.  A lollipop is the fancy swirly kind.  A sucker is something like a Dum Dum or Tootsie Pop.

Also, completely unrelated, but I've been sneezing, hiccuping and yawning non-stop today.  There's no pattern to it.  My body just randomly throws one of the three at me every couple minutes.  This is getting ridiculous.
