Re: May Randoms Thread

  • UO maybe, but I'm team take my kids out even when sick. Obviously not if they had sores from HFM, but before the breakout, it's pretty much cold symptoms. With two toddlers in daycare, I basically wouldn't be able to take them anywhere from Sept-April. Most of our friends have kids in DC, so nobody really cares anyways.

  • @fireflygirl12 - I'm with you. My little man has a runny nose from November-May pretty much.  Just this past weekend we had a playdate planned and I told the other mom "E has a runny nose, like usual. Let me know if you're still up for getting together!" She laughed saying her son had the same, no big deal.  Unfortunately, E ran a fever on Friday and though it had broken by Saturday I canceled anyways. Fevers I don't mess with/share with others.. but typical cold symptoms?  We have to live through it and get out of the house otherwise we'd be hermits

  • Mine both got frequent ear infections, so also non-contageous fevers.
  • @AnnaS930 & @fireflygirl12 Agreed on the cold symptoms.   Being little, in daycare, and simply living up north will ensure that my LO will be sick 7 our of ten days come winter.    I'm not hibernating and neither will they be.   My issue with the HFM mom from the previous post was that she commented that 'I think they have a fever' and then proceeded to bring/keep their child at the party.   You just do not mess with fevers.
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo - I was lurking on May '16 last week and I like how they did their L&D posts. They made one sticky post and everyone announced on their. They asked that no other comments be made on that particular thread (congrats and what not) so as not to clutter it. But I think women made separate threads as well if they wanted to. The one sticky was just nice so that at least they were all in one spot.
Reading through those got me so excited to be at that point again!! I can't wait to meet these two!! <3

edited to say - That's awesome! It's always a nice surprise when you end up getting paid when you thought you wouldn't!
@Unwritten12 Agreed on how May '16 (and it appears every other month board) has done their L&D posts.  I love looking at them and have pretty much lurked on every board to seem them from Jan '16 on.  I just love hearing all the news, names, and information.   So cute!
  • I'm really irritated with daycare today. Owen is showing strong interest in PTing and I would LOVE to get that done before baby arrives. Mentioned it to the dc director and I guess they don't do PTing until the next class, which he can't move to until October. So he's ready now, but I have to wait 5 MORE MONTHS?!
  • @fireflygirl12 - oh yes. Ear infection central over here before he had tubes put in. Another ailment that we lived our lives through. Can't stop for those every time.

And @LakeR2014 Agreed 100% with everything you're saying. Fevers we keep to ourselves, and I hope that our friends/family do the same... unless confident that baby is running a bit warm while a tooth is coming through, which I seriously doubted pre-baby, but seems to somewhat correlate with the overall discomfort

  • @RedMar - what is a labor buddy?
  • Both of my BMBs did labor buddies closer to 30w I think.
  • @fireflygirl12 daycare not letting a child potty train?! That's absolute crap!
  • I never bothered with a labor buddy and probably only about half of the ladies on my last BMB did. With smartphones and the app, it is just as easy to post "I'm in labor" to the forums as it is to text a labor buddy.

  • @poodledoodleooo, a labor buddy is someone you communicate with when you go in labor so they can update the group on progress for you. Usually you try to pair with someone a few weeks away from your dd so you aren't in labor at the same time. I exchanged numbers with my A14 LB and we also just charted/texted about random stuff through pregnancy and after birth. I didn't connect as much with my S12 LB, so we mostly just PM'd through thebump.
  • Are listeria recalls normally this frequent or am I just noticing them all because I'm pregnant?! This is insane! What do you expect me to eat?!
  • I also opted not to have a labor buddy. It seemed just as easy for me to post to the group from the app that I was in labor versus a "buddy". I think by that point a smaller group of us had formed a private group anyway, so I just posted to them

  • @sbrown721 they don't have a bathroom in his current class and he can't go to the next class until Oct due to the ratio changing 7:1 to 10:1 at that age. I get it, but I just wish there was more flexibility.

Re: labor buddy... we started setting them up in my last BMB once everyone in the group was in third tri. I'm still in contact with my labor buddy via FB, and she's actually having her second a couple months before me. This pregnancy, I could see myself possibly updating the board because I mainly Bump mobile now, but I was an exclusive computer Bumper last time. There was no way I was getting on to let everyone know I was having my baby.

@fireflygirl12 I agree with Sbrown. A daycare refusing the potty train is insane. Both of the daycares I worked at had potties in the one year old rooms even (they were rarely used, but they were there). There was never a cutoff to get them started.

ETA: I hadn't seen that there are no potties in his current room. I have no idea what I'd do in that situation, but I understand your frustration.

  • Honestly? I don't think I would think to update a buddy on my labor regardless. I'll just let you all know when baby is here after the fact!
This. No one needs my labor play-by-play. I'll update when I have a baby.

  • I think last time I gave my private group a quick "Hello all.. at the hospital, been admitted, check back later" around 11am when we knew that this was the time. Baby arrived just before 8pm.. and while I was still hopped up on adrenaline and husband and baby were passed out I updated around 11pm to let them know that all was good and Emmett was Earth-side! That felt like enough.  We had a couple members "live bump" their labors and I found it to be a bit overwhelming to read

  • How did the private group start up? Is there a way to do that on TB or was it a facebook group or did everyone just exchange #s?

Our private group was through The Bump.. members are able to create private groups that only the members in that group have access to (you sent out invites individually). We moved from The Bump to facebook when the crazy bump stuff went down and we all wanted to delete our accounts, but the private group on the bump functioned pretty well while we used it

  • I want a labor buddy simply because it sounds cute.
  • So, I shared here that I was worried about my glucose tolerance screening. I haven't received the results yet but I'm hoping for the best.

It wasn't too bad, just chugging a red drink that tasted exactly like kool-aid to me and waiting an hour for a blood draw. The lab tech made me drink it in front of her which was funny. It made me wonder if they've had experiences with people dumping it down the toilet or what? Anyways, during the hour wait I was definitely nauseous and felt just strange. I wasn't allowed to drink nor eat during the hour. I laid down for a while so that helped. Hopefully everything looks okay so I don't have to do the 3 hour one! Which is apparently the one where my doctor makes you fast. That's why I was concerned why I hadn't been given fasting instruction. Different screening mechanisms I guess.
  • @PoodleDoodleOoo @PSUBecky23 When it comes to me I feel hesitant to share the nitty gritty, but I'm very enthused about hearing other women's stories in detail! DH says my fascination with medical procedures is disgusting. Guess that's why I'm trying to become a nurse!
  • @mom2adoodle I thought having a labor buddy was fun, but I was probably so into it because I thought they were cute on the BMB prior to mine. Haha.

I only updated my labor buddy once, maybe twice, before McKenna was born. She did a quick "Camichael84 is in labor" post. Then I updated her once McKenna was born and we were settled, and she let the board know my daughter was here and we were all good. I had a quick, uncomplicated birth, though, so there was very little to update.

Question for teachers: What do you really want as an end of the year gift? I see all these cute, personalized gifts, but I feel like a gift card might be the better route? I want to give something useful, but that could still be a treat for the teacher. My daughter is finishing her first year of pre-school, so this is all new to me. Am I overthinking this?

Ugh, the adrenaline! I was so tired I couldn't keep my eyes open that first night after I had DD, yet I couldn't sleep at all. It was awful!
  • @mom2adoodle - yes on the fasting for the 3 hour test. For that one they do a fasting blood glucose to start, if you fail that - there's no need to do the 3 hour test, you have gestational diabetes. Then you drink a stronger glucola (50grams for 1 hour, 100grams for 3 hour) and throughout the following 3 hours have blood draws to see how your body handles the sugar at 1, 2 and 3 hours out.

  • @AnnaS930 They did the glucola and all of my 3 hour draws before they tested my sugar. I wish they'd done it your doc's way because I failed my fasting draw (my fasting sugar was the hardest to control). It would have been nice to avoid the glucola and subsequent 3 more draws.

  • @camichael84 - well, this is how it should be done in theory, though I'm sure many labs go ahead with the test without reading the first value - but why??  I seem to remember getting my fasting and waiting before they said "yup, you're good to drink!" so I *THINK* my lab was aware enough to hold off until knowing it was necessary. I passed my fasting, 2 and 3 hour, but failed the 1 hour just like I had for the initial test, so I'm not positive. Seemed my body could process the glucose, just was a bit slower to react than ideal

Such a great question! DS and DD are just finishing Kinder and they have had the most patient, wonderful teachers (especially DS - I feel like his teacher is an absolute Saint!).

  • @AnnaS930 My lab doesn't test it while I'm there, so maybe that is why. It took them several days to get back to me. I remember hearing back right after the 4th of July, and being glad they didn't get to me sooner because I would have had to skip my corn on the cob and funnel cake on the 4th. (Maybe not the best mindset.) I only passed the 2 hour draw.

  • @fireflygirl12 that would be a huge issue for me. We have Jr toddler rooms at my daycare that don't have bathrooms, so they take some kids showing interest TO the bathrooms.

Re: labour buddies, you had one of my fav people as your LB last time

@LizC216 I usually do a Michaels/Walmart/Amazon gift card. You can never have too many of those!
