Re: May Randoms Thread

  • @beachmama14 - I've never had that long of a stretch of change, but like you said.. I'd predict a couple rough nights but my little one getting back into his routine. I'm sure she's slept well in her crib for far longer than this span of time that she was in your room. Fingers crossed when she wakes in the night in her crib she'll recognize where she is and be able to soothe herself!!

  • I have a bitchfest even though it's not Monday.

I'm taking a "Happiest Baby on the Block" dvd screening and class tonight. DH works in tech and his company has their annual launching of new products/services this week. Needless to say he won't be there. Which to me is fine, but I'm annoyed because the birth center where this class will be held is SUPER family involved. Like grandmas, dads, kids, all showing up for things that don't really pertain to them. I even had a mom ask me "Are you doing this alone?" last time because DH was working (it was freakin 4pm) and I was there alone. Even if I was "doing this alone" why do you care dumb lady!?!?!?! I didn't ask YOU why you insisted on bringing your mom. UGH. (Nothing against grandmas, just trying to prove a point here).
  • @mom2adoodle - bummer that he can't make it. Going to appointments and other things alone last time I always felt the need to mention my husband, loudly. Or play with my wedding ring a lot.. I don't know why it seemed so important to me.. I'm probably more judgy than I'll admit to myself

  • @Jabreen - oh man. First, I'm so happy I went through high school when no one had their own technology - flip phones were not any fun/worth playing with and didn't have wifi and no one brought a laptop to school.
But, that changed quickly in college and I would have been the student flipping out. Good luck!!!

  • @mom2adoodle I'm sorry to hear he won't make it to the class. If it's any consolation, I just finished that book and I think he can EASILY get the jist of the book by skimming it over. It really seemed to be a very repetitive book to me. Hopefully, they'll send you home with a little booklet of notes that he can study as well. I know that him missing the information isn't the sole reason for your "bitchfest" but I thought my two cents might help  :)
  • @AnnaS930 I didn't even think about mentioning DH until I saw I clearly stood out for showing up alone. We'll see how today goes.

Maybe I should just mention DH is at work during the "intros" they insist on doing at the beginning of class much to my dismay. Idk, maybe I'm more partial to huge lectures (having gone to a public undergrad and grad) so I don't like too much attention from the teacher/peers nor do I want to know about them LOL. I'm rude.
  • Happiest Baby on the Block is the only book I read before #1 (asides from a pregnancy-related book). I REALLY liked having the 5 S's in my back pocket to try when E was fussy and I didn't know why. Even if it didn't always work, it felt good to have a plan in place and be trying SOMETHING instead of feeling helpless.  The swaddling technique also worked well for my little Houdini before we switched to the snapping swaddlers

I just booked my 3d ultrasound for 2 weeks from now, i'll be 27 weeks. My ob does this for $75 with a 30 minute session and a cd of pictures. I really wasn't going to do it but ever since my coworker had a boy instead of the girl they were planning for I have been paranoid!

  • Had appt today and got results of A/S - all is well! :)  Twice I was asked if we knew the sex of the baby (in a we know but do you type of way).   First was as the nurse hands me the paperwork about circumcision.   Then second time when the doctor came in and asked it.   Later when she was looking for a heartbeat the baby kicked her and she said wow baby is gonna be a 'brute'.    Couple this with DH swearing that the US tech kept referring to the baby as a 'he' and now I'm swinging towards us having a boy when I've been thinking all along it's a girl, lol.

Debating on mentioning the above to DH because I swear if I do he'll take it as 100% confirmation its a boy and not stop smiling until the delivery.
  • @LakeR2014 - I'm still feeling a boy for you!

People are so "assuming" aren't they? My SO drives a big truck and is hardly ever at any of my appointments etc. He was only available for one, the A.S. , which was awesome, but other than that he has been out of town. (obviously) I signed up for a 5 week free class with my hospital and he was able to make 2 of the classes i think? So i totally understand your feelings here. Im so cool with being there "alone", honestly it doesnt bother me at all, im so used to doing most things that way, but for people to be so "judgey" is really funny to me. AND what an antiquated way of thinking, "OH, NO MAN IN YOUR LIFE, HOW WILL YOU MAKE ITTTTTTTTTT !?!? " Dont worry about it Bia, ill be fine. :sunglasses:

General question (FTM brain has me questioning): would you be comfortable buying a baby carrier (wrap conversion RS) off of Etsy??

  • @AnnaS930 Oh, it would definitely have been me, too, so I feel especially bad!  Silver lining, though, I managed to find one girl some extra points (mis-marked since we use a digital grader + some wiggle room I'd built into the term) so she ended up with the grade she hoped for.  I don't do that for every student, but she is a really hard worker and came back to talk just so she could understand her grade, not to beg for bonus or mercy.

If the seller has good reviews, yes, and the rings are sling rings. I bought a RS off Etsy.

  • I want--no, I need Papa John's pizza so bad but the closest one is about 20 minutes away and they don't deliver. I've stayed home all day and don't want to adult or put on clothes other than my PJs. I'm starving but the lazy is too strong. First world problems.

UGH! This florida heat is killing me this week. I used to go on walks every afternoon and it is impossible right now, I even cut the normal walk in half and I feel like dying. According to the weather app- 84 feels like 91 70% humidity with a UV index of 11.

  • @kosmo86 humidity is SO Grosssssssssss.
  • I'm not sure why but I feel like May has been a loooooong month. Maybe because the days are getting longer/warmer.
  • @mom2adoodle I can relate to that.  Until now, I feel like time (and my pregnancy has been flying).  But just recently, it seems like time has slowed down a bit.  Like, May was here before I knew it and now it seems like it should be almost ending...but it's only the 19th!  So strange...  I'll take it, though.  I've been begging time to slow down for a while now so I guess maybe now I'm finally getting my wish...?  ;)

  • @mom2adoodle and I'm over here going It's May? When did that happen? I thought it was still April?

  • Agreed.. I couldn't believe it was May.. and some time has dragged but now I'm like woah.. next weekend is Memorial Day?!  Now that 24 weeks has passed for me I guess it's time to start counting down to 3rd tri, and after next appointment I'll be at every 2 week check ins. I like small milestones to break up the 40 weeks

I'm so jealous! I just booked my 3D ultrasound, and it's $175! I can't *really* complain, because I've gotten one every time, for each kid, and I loooove having the pics.

I feel the same way. May is flying by so fast. When someone recently mentioned we were getting close to being in 3rd tri, I was thought they were crazy. Then I realized the 9/1 moms hit 25 weeks today, and we really are approaching 3rd tri. I don't even know how it's possible this pregnancy is going this fast. My baby will be here in less than four months! Eek!

Question for teachers: What do you really want as an end of the year gift? I see all these cute, personalized gifts, but I feel like a gift card might be the better route? I want to give something useful, but that could still be a treat for the teacher. My daughter is finishing her first year of pre-school, so this is all new to me. Am I overthinking this?
I'm sorry if this has already been addressed, I just saw it and I'm way behind so I haven't read ahead. But I'm going to answer anyway. A gift card to starbucks, dunkin donuts, or target and a nice note of appreciation. And if you have to pick between the two things, a note is more appreciated than the money.

I'm in NY - we are a mixed breed.   Southern portion of state is Soda.   Northern portion is Pop.   It's very one county to the next here as to how it's referred to.   I find this hilarious as every other state seems to be state wide.  But no, NY has to debate on everything including how we reference our beverages.

The same thing goes to what this is:

Half the state says 'lollipop', other half is firmly in the 'sucker' camp.

YES I moved to a different region in the state and called them suckers to a bunch of elementary school kids and they were like "What are you talking about?" I HAD NO IDEA THIS WAS A THING.

I'm a "Soda" girl myself. But I always noticed the split in NY for soda/pop was an east v west thing.

Also "black and white" vs "half moon" cookies. That was another one that snuck up on me.

ETA: We are a state where we can't even get a consensus on where "upstate" is for crying out loud.

@UnwritteN12 you're so sweet to ask. I haven't heard much about the outcome of his surgeries but today was supposed to be his last day in ICU. Another teacher and I sent him a get-well card along with a Dunkin gift cert. Hoping to get an update soon!
