  • @blondie080300 since you're going to wear a cardigan, could you unzip the dress a bit so it's not as constricting?

  • @blondie080300 I hear you on the lack of bump but clothes not fitting. Too big for my clothes but not big enough for maternity clothes.

  • I got into an argument on another site about CIO.  Apparently, I am a cruel person because after 9 months of waking up every 40 minutes all night long and our entire family being miserable, we did CIO.  Why is "it was the right choice for our family" not acceptable? Are you the one getting up with my child all night long? Nope. Shut it.

  • I'm not obsessed with knowing everything baby this time around but I am insanely excited about the nursery. I never got to have a nursery with my first & this is our last so I think I'm going to go overboard with it. Every waking minute seems to be used to look up something for the nursery or working on it.

I think my daughter was about 9-10 months when we started a modified CIO. We let her cry for 5 min, then went in. Then 10 min, and went in. Then 15, etc. I definitely don't think anyone's a monster for using that method!

  • In my three years and four days of parenting, I think my least favorite part by far has to be potty training. Especially when potty training a head strong, independent, does whatever she wants on her terms, little girl.
Potty training my daughter was almost enough to not make me want another. It was horrible. She pooped on the floor of her bedroom every night for a month. A MONTH.

That's exactly what we did.  It's not like we tossed him in the crib and ignored him until morning.

Ugh. We're not even at night time training. This was her first day of underwear. Her backpack is packed with five outfit changes for school tomorrow. So good luck to her teachers.

Guys. I bought my first pair of maternity pants today, and I think it was life changing. Trying them on in the dressing room was like instant comfort plus the feeling of "why haven't I been wearing elastic pants my whole life?"

I bought two pair because I'm trying not to spend a ton on maternity clothes, but now I want more. This could be dangerous. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they fit/were flattering too, Motherhood Maternity Outlet for the win!

I told DH I might never go back to regular pants again. He laughed, but I don't think he realizes I'm almost half serious.

  • Umm yeah. I have some maternity jeans and capris from motherhood from last time. This time I ordered 3 pairs of leggings from them for $7 each. I want to wear them every day for the rest of my life... but haven't been brave enough to wear them at work yet (we dress Friday casual everyday )

  • Thanks for thinking of Emmett @LizC216 . He woke fever free, was still pretty whiny for first half of the day but came around and we had a great afternoon/evening. He seems to but cutting his final tooth (before 2 year molars.. he's only 15 months ) and it is making itself known... gallons of drool and fussy but the fever is something we have never had so not sure if it was just a weird virus.

  • Our little dude always slept well at night but had a hard time going down for naps. At around 6 months old we started putting him in his crib and watching the clock. We would give him 5 minutes to settle down unless he was really worked up.  It has only been a handful of times in the 9 months since then that we have had to go up there and soothe him.. 5 minutes can feel like an eternity, but at the same time we often look at the clock and it's like "Oh! He hasn't made a peep after those first 2 minutes" and he snoozes away. Even though he was a good night sleeper it even improved his nighttimes by giving him ways to soothe himself back down if he does wake throughout the night.

It is pretty much the same for us.  I thought we were lucky that he slept so well at night and we didn't have to worry about sleep training.  But we do have to let him cry himself to sleep for nap time most of the time (it's only like 2 minutes of crying).  Daycare has no problem getting him to nap - he is the best napper in class! But he never wants to nap on the weekends.

Oh man - we're the opposite. At home he naps about 10am-1pm without a fuss. At daycare they don't even try to put him down until around noon (he has to be EXHAUSTED to give into sleep there), and wakes at his first sleep transition (45 minutes) ready to play!!

  • Long rant ahead... the Easter egg hunt we took DD was a disaster. There was no thought put into the organization of it.

They had each area seperated by age. The 2 and under area was a 20x20 gated section that was filled to the brim with eggs. They opened the gates and parents just start throwing their kids over the gate and then not moving, instead of going into the opening. Also, parents are allowed in and there is a turn out of 50+ kids so it was packed. When DD and I finally made our way in there were about 15 eggs left towards the back and no way to get to them. DD is crying bc it's crowded, and I'm frustrated because while my kids is going to end up with no eggs, there are others leaving with a whole basket full. Finally once it's just a bunch of egg halves and candy left on the ground, it kind of clears out. At that point DD starts enjoying finding all the scraps leftover no one else wanted.

She left with 6-7 egg halves, 2 suckers, and 3 tootsie rolls. We try not to give her a lot of candy, so the fact that she ended up with the amount she got didn't upset me, but knowing some kids got basket fulls of actual eggs while my kid was just picking up what no one else wanted broke my heart.

We even showed up early and were close to the front of the opening, but because of lack of order, we still ended up being one of the last into the "hunt". DH was even more upset than me watching us from the side, and we decided to go get eggs and do a hunt in our own yard. That was a blast, and the only egg hunt we will do next year.

  • @camichael84 that's so frustrating but I'm glad you were able to salvage it for her and have your own hunt. Glad I'm Jewish and don't do Easter egg hunts based on some of the horror stories I've heard.

My random, sent Reese to school in underwear for the first time, along with five extra changes of clothes. So good luck to her teachers. They do not get paid enough.

I think people get mad because it doesn't work for everyone like that. We tried and my kid would not stop crying. And therefore I couldn't stop crying. It wasn't a good fit for us. But the whole world (it seems) will tell you it is what you have to do if you want your baby to sleep well. I'm guessing it feels like the whole world is telling you you should not do it if it is what works for you. For me, the key is doing what works for you AND your kiddo. :)

ETA: I also think people think "total extinction" when they hear CIO rather than "controlled crying."
  • @camichael84 I'm glad you ended up doing one of your own. That sounds like a joke!
