I have a new subject to bring up. I searched for this but didn't find much. For my first delivery I was induced at 41 weeks with pitocin. Skipped cervidal that was originally part of the plan because they said I was having contractions according to the monitors. I didn't feel a thing and wasn't dilated a bit yet. So pitocin started at 9pm, but 3am I couldn't take it contractions had started every two minutes around 1am, and by 3am the babies heart rate was dropping during the back to back contractions. I got the epidural around 330am, was only dialated to a 3. After my epidural I couldn't feel my legs for about an hour, in that hour babies heart rate continued to drop during contractions, several times 4 nurses would run in and help me turn over side to side to help baby..? About the 4th time, I got an urgent shot in the arm because baby's heart rate had dropped. At this point, they "lowered" the pitocin. And within 30 minutes, I was back in crazy pain and on oxygen- and had complete movement back in my legs- I mean I could have skipped down the hall aside from the contractions every two min. So probably around 6am, at 5cm, I asked, can we do another dose or turn the epidural up or something.. The nurse had told me it was a "one time" thing.. It was a spiral epidural.. Aren't those continuous..? in the mean time a hospital doc yelled at a nurse for checking my dilation progress, noting it was affecting the babies heart rate- and not to check me. So my epidural was now "over" according to the nurse, and she was no longer allowed to check my progress. By 915am I was dialated, and was allowed to push. Baby born 1025am. I then find out the nicu was in the hall waiting, thinking my baby would have issues due to lack of oxygen so long. Baby was fine, so they left. Nearly 10 lbs and 22 inches long. My normal dr had showed up to catch the baby, tried stitching my tear, and when I noted I could tell when she touched me down there with her hand, stitches might hurt she said, I thought you had an epidural... I ended up get shots down there for the stitches . Am I crazy or did my epidural get turned off?? Is that possible? I've asked my dr about it now and she said with all the drama they might have takin the pitocin and epidural away from me...? After delivery in my post pardom room I walked myself to the bathroom to clean up more and pee before my husband even got there - he had went to watch baby bath, etc. My question is, is this an indication of how I will react to pitocin next time? And what the heck happened to the epidural?

I've had pitocin and epidural with all of my labors. I've never had a problem with the pitocin. The only time I had a problem with the epidural was with my 1st. It wore off halfway through everything and I ended up feeling the delivery and got shots like you to get stitches. I'm assuming it was some weird deal because like I said, with my 1st was the only time I've had a problem. I hope your's ends up the same and is just a one time problem! Edited spelling

Is going into labor on my own, on the weekend, in the afternoon, laboring at home, and delivering soon after checking into the hospital without pitocin or epidural THAT much to ask for!?! Okay maybe. But my doctor has insured she will "cross her fingers" after stripping membranes starting at 38 weeks for me. I just really want to avoid the pitocin. I might even attempt to do the deed every few days after 38 weeks. I guess for now I'll focus on hoping my Placenta moves and c-section is off the table.

I thought stripping membranes increases the need for picotin and epidurals... water breaks more prematurely and then docs like to get jumpy

In all honesty I got my membranes stripped - once at 39 1/2 weeks, didn't do a thing, and then again at 40w2d. I went into labor the next day but I had a major stall because of the stripping. Like I could not get past 4cm. So I had to have a ton of pitocin to get me going again. In all of my desperation, I'm going to try not to give into stripping this time.

I think all doctors vary on this, but the separation of the sac from the uterus releases hormones that boost contractions to get things going. I had it done twice before and it didn't do anything. I don't think there's any way to know it caused labor to move slower, because you don't know what would have happened had it not been done. It's def slightly controversial but seems like a lot of doctors suggest it. I know I would give it a shot knowing I MIGHT get pitocin versus waiting until past 40 when pitocin is nearly guaranteed.

Statistically if you gave a sweep/waters broken manually you are more likely to need picotin.... If you take picotin your are more likely to need an epidural.
I will try to find axtually.sources but I have read similar stats in a lot of places that one "intervention" increases your chances of others downstream
LFAF- Best Olympic Moments... Jackie Joyner-Kersee
Really? I didn't know that stat! I had my membranes stripped with both and they were born 12 and 9 hours later. Epidural with the first but not the second, no pitocin either time. Seems to work well for me and I am all for it this time, but I didn't realize it was more likely to lead to interventions. Good to know!
Sweeping membranes almost lead to pitocin for me. Also it is likely to lead to water breaking before labor starts. That's what could lead to pitocin requirement. Also once labor starts, it is likely to be more intense and painful than before breaking water. This could lead to needing meds for pain control. Happened to me as well. I didn't know any of this with my first though I did a ton of research. You can see how this can all start a cascading effect to more interventions.
Does anyone else get headaches on a cyclical basis? I have had this headache since yesterday- it will go away with medicine but them comes back after a few hours. And by cyclical I mean like around the time you would normally have your period- I have had these about once a month, toward the end/beginning of the month, which is when I would normally have my period.
Anyone else notice something like this? Or am I just nuts?

@charley15 I notice I'll get them if there is a big hormone boost and possible growth spurt. I don't know about monthly (for me anyway - haven't paid that much attention).

I used to get headaches all the time on BC, that's why I've noticed it. I hope they go away soon- I can't take looking at a computer screen all day at work with this headache!
February Siggy Challenge- Post pregnancy indulgences
I wear a night mouth guard normally for teeth clenching while sleeping. It's usually perfectly adequate. However, since I've become pregnant it feels like I'm not wearing it at all. I wake up with teeth pain, jaw pain, and a headache...all from clenching. I'm sure my crazy dreams and interrupted sleep schedule have something to do with it, but my question is: has anyone else experienced this, and if so were you able to find relief from anything?
Weird random question. Has anyone ever gone hunting or fired a gun while pregnant? I am going to put a call in to my doctor to ask but just wondered if anyone knew if it was ok? We are going to the deer lease this weekend and I will probably sit in the stand with DH. If I do fire a gun it would be a rifle and would obviously just be one time. Everything I am reading says it's fine as long as you are not in an indoor range, handling ammo or shooting for long periods of time.
@Parker16772 I've not. I haven't been allowed on the range (indoor) while pregnant and have heard that past 18 weeks the sound can be too loud for LOs ears (obviously WAY louder indoors). I did cancel a weekend away at an outdoor range due to my pregnancy, though. I was just being cautious. That said, your day and precautions sound perfectly reasonable.

I'm interested in this as well. We are going to my grandpas in the country for Thanksgiving and we always shoot up there. I know gun ranges are a no no because of the gun powder in the air. Let me know what your doctor says!
I went to an outdoor shooting range when pregnant with DD up until about 20-24 weeks. After that I heard it's bad for baby's ears but I never confirmed that with my doctor.
This is probably a stupid question but I'm 19w1d and starting to show and m just started wearing maternity clothes because my clothes are too snug for me or they just don't even fit right! Ugh it's irritating!! My question for you is did anyone go and buy maternity underwear? I usually wear low rise bikini or hipster or cheeky underwear and it's constantly falling down and I'm always having to lift my underwear and my pants through the wide maternity band. Anyone else have this problem?? If so then what the heck did you do? My sister suggested regular high waisted underwear but I've never worn them so I don't know!

I've never bought maternity underwear. I wear boy shorts (cotton) most often and I haven't had a problem with them.

Are there any STM+ who had a failed epidural? Is is likely to fail this time or could it be successful?
Mine only worked on the right side of my body. They reset it twice and it never worked on the left. I am considering going without meds this time because I went from 4-10 in a little over an hour and it was super annoying to not be able to feel one side of my body but to feel everything on the other.

Anyone's feet grew with their previous LOs? I was between 8 - 8.5 and after DD, I am now a solid 8.5. I'm so afraid to buy new shoes because who knows if I'll turn out to be a 9 or bigger after this pregnancy. A lot of my shoes went to donation.... *sad face*
@irenewslee yes...every single one. I started out a 9.5/10 for DS1, 10.5 for DS2, and now I'm a good 11w for this pregnancy. And nothing cute comes in ski size.

@skruhmin Nothing like throwing out cute shoes or can't find them in your size! I am a sucker for shoes so between that and stretch marks (which I am also not so happy with), I'll take stretch marks. Ahhh... so many things that men will never understand.

I have 4 pairs of maternity underwear (go up to my boobs) and I love them. I feel more supported and more secure in them. I wear them during the day and have size up granny panties for evening pj wear. The ones I got are George brand (asda for me but walmart for you?). I would suggest they are worth a try.

This, exactly. I do have some maternity underwear from the first time around, but honestly, they slipped down too. I was actually screaming the other day because my underwear were annoying me so much. I think my husband thought I was insane. LOL!

Question for you ladies: I'm going to be a bridesmaid in my sister's wedding about 6 weeks after my due date. I'm not too worried about it, but dress shopping is going to have to wait for as long as possible! Do you guys have advice on types of dresses that (might!) be flattering on a post-baby belly?? She is planning on leaving the style up to us.
@lamell I was matron of honor for my sister's wedding about 6 weeks pp last summer. I started trying on dresses like right around this point - between 4-5 months pregnant is probably how you will look 6 weeks pp (sad to say but it takes a while for that tummy to go away). An empire waist is the best way to go - and make sure to get the chest area a little big because if your are nursing, your girls will be at least a cup size bigger. If you wait much longer than now, your ribs might grow with baby and it might not be an accurate picture of 6 weeks pp. If it helps you at all, I'm attaching the picture of me - the skirt was very flowing so it allowed for the belly.
@lamell - this link is to the bridesmaid dresses we had in my wedding. One of my bridesmaids was 26 weeks pregnant during my wedding, she loved this dress! Flowing and easy to alter if need be.
