Is it ok to do your own babyshower instead of having a family member/friend throw you one?

I might need to make new poll about cake. I'm torn between yellow cake with chocolate frosting (has always been my go to bday cake) vs white cake with lemon curd/raspberry filling and a cream cheese frosting vs my newest discovery of lemon meringue cheesecake from Cheesecake Factory. I want all the cake.

White cake with lemon curd/raspberry filling and a cream cheese frosting!!!! Give it to me NOW!!! Layer that b*tch cause I want both the lemon curd and the raspberry filling! Make it happen and put it in my belly!!!!

@intheversa I want your tasty treats!!!

    OMG this, this exactly!

    @J1D Don't hate me but they're easy.

Pre-heat oven 350, brownie mix (follow instructions on box) mix in one bag milk chocolate chips (I'm a Tollhouse kind of girl), break up and add graham crackers and marshmallows to the mix (use your best judgement but I would do like 6 graham crackers and 20-30 marshmallows). Bake in a 9x13 for 20 minutes.

Once out of the oven layer more broken up graham crackers, marshmallows, and Tollhouse chocolate chunks (looks like firewood) and layer it until the whole pan is covered. Bake another 8-10 minutes until marshmallows are brown.

Can't take credit for this one, my mom thought this up. She might have stolen it who knows. They're so rich though!

I cannot say what the actual cake is. I think the surprise element is part of the allure.

Also, is it bad that I think movie star/pre-politician Reagan is hot as f**k?
  • My mom is making my baby shower cake and it is going to be a lemon cake with raspberry frosting and I AM SO EXCITED! She made some cupcakes a few weeks ago and they were glorious. I'm hoping my Dr will let me have a cheat day for my baby shower (GD) but if she doesn't I'm still having a big ass piece of cake!
  • @MandahGirly I may put that in the "don't ask, don't tell category." ;)

I was going to throw myself one because half of our relatives live in another state and wanted to be invited with ample notice, (and no one invited any of my friends to my surprise bridal shower 6 years ago), my work schedule is not exactly conducive to surprise things, and no one had offered to throw one. I don't like surprises so I just told my relatives I was going to throw it and my mom said "absolutely not!".

They let me pick the theme and date, and add to the guest list, but said I was not allowed to throw it myself.

ETA: I had been asked about when my baby shower was going to be and which friends would love to be invited repeatedly. The in-laws (12 hours away) had specifically asked to be invited, my work friends had specifically asked to be invited, but since no one had offered to throw one I had no answers to give people. Being type A, i'm also REALLY not a last minute kind of girl- especially when people might be coming from another state.

(I didn't want a final 4 weeks shower since babies can come early, which meant an August shower, which meant inviting out of state people a month in advance which meant invites needed to go out early july, which meant needing to be in planning stages in late june which was 3 months before due date and early to most people)

But you're still technically not throwing your own shower, and they asked for your input, so I think we can let this one slide. :-)

  • I know I'm late to the party but I'm glad to see its still popping
  • I am a control freak. My mom I s "throwing" the shower but I've done everything from pick out invites, location, food, decor and games. She's paid for things and I've paid for things.

Do whatever makes you stress less. It's not about gifts it's about celebrating babies.

By the way I haven't seen such an immature group of ladies on here in a long time!

    I hope I helped!
  • :) I wasn't being "nasty" just saying calling it tacky, and taking the conversation into a cake debate seems... Off.

Remember we are here to support.
  • Update: the sprinkle did in fact have cake, although it was plain cheesecake. I really had my heart set on lemon and raspberry thanks to you ladies. Also, no Ronald in sight. All in all, not a total waste. Could have used way more balloons.
PLAIN cheesecake!? Like they didn't even bother with fruit or ANYTHING!? Lame-o
I dont know if you guy know but plain cheese cake is A-OK....something like Juniors cheesecake !!!! o bbooiiiii

  • If I was the woman who started this thread I wouldn't want to sift through cake cravings and memes to get an answer. I'd like an opinionated, educated, answer.

I'm sorry you took offense that you thought I was specifically calling the cake commenters immature. People who bring up these "sensitive" questions are because they feel a certain way about it to begin with.

I'm not looking to bicker back and forth.
Continue on with your cake and craving rant. :) there are threads for that though!

  • We had our baby-q co ed shower yesterday. My hubby and I hosted it ourselves and we wouldn't have done it any other way! I'm picky about things like that so I didn't have to worry about someone else planning things I wouldn't want to do.
