If I had limited family members or no one to do it, I may throw a welcome party for friends or something.
I imagine it would be lonely to not have the support of loved ones when having a baby. People are in all kinds of situations.
When we registered the other day s young girl (maybe 19?) was there registering alone. That's got to be hard- not even a boyfriend or mom there.
I think I'd have sympathy for anyone who didn't have a support system in place to have a shower thrown for them.
I really like this. I think its very sensitive and empathetic to the fact not every one has a support system.
I just want my presents and I check my registry once a week. I love cake and there better be balloons !!!!!!! If there are not balloons I'm punching my boyfriend in the face and pooping on the floor
I'm not understanding why it's such a big deal to throw your own shower. Maybe you greedy chicks only throw showers for gifts but us humble folk are trying to share our excitement about a blessing that is coming into this world. It's not all about gifts. Besides you never get what you really need anyways. Grow up, it's 2015. Women are having and raising babies on their own these days.
My SIL and her friend (who are coincidentally the best people on the planet right now) baked sooo many cupcakes and cakepops, there were a lot of leftovers from the shower. I wasnt aware of this, but DH boxed quite a few before we left last night, and now I have delicious homemade cupcakes in my fridge! Chocolate ones with raspberry filling and frosting, vanilla ones with chocolate frosting, and amazing raspberry cake pops! I feel like I'm in heaven right now haha.
And he even though to bag up some of the leftover fruit! This man knows how to please, lol.

On topic: I'd have no issues attending a baby shower if the host was the mom-to-be. Not everyone has a big support system, simple as that. I moved halfway across the world less than a year ago so I'm not really close to anyone here yet. My MIL and SIL offered to throw me a shower, out of state as we dont live close. We never expected them to because of the distance, and if they hadnt, we'd likely have thrown a small party ourselves since DH doesnt get to see his family enough and I like to use any excuse to get them together
Where I'm from, baby showers arent even a thing, so it'd be frowned upon either way really. Culture, huh?

thats it i refuse to bump with a woman who is bragging about all the cake and fruit she has...you know thats real immature!!!! ....
i went to the market after reading this thread earlier and told DH remind me to get cake ...yea no reminders !!!!! NO CAKE!!!!!!

The purpose of a shower is to give the mom-to-be gifts, so I guess anyone who receives said gifts is a "greedy chick"? I'd love to hear about how your culture/family/group celebrates the baby's impending arrival at showers sans gifts, I'm genuinely curious.
And I'm all for women raising children on their own, but asking for gifts is kind of the opposite of that, so...?
ETA: Sorry, I know I shouldn't have and I should just let it die, but I just can't even right now.
I feel like the woman on here tend to attack each other. I don't comment for this exact reason.
I mean simply look at the post above.
You woman and your cake enjoy yourselves.
None of these woman are going to give a dang after the baby comes.
This is all irrelevant and now just a damn waste of our time!
No one has asked you to waste your time here. The cake discussion is lighthearted and all in good fun. "I don't comment for this exact reason" seems a bit strong considering our group is pretty welcoming. It's okay if you'd prefer to read and not comment, but please don't accuse people of "attacking" one another when that definitely did not just happen.
@gabrielleld In case youre referring to me and @gabrielafrnqyepez , I can assure you we arent actually attacking eachother. We've been bumping together for quite some time now and we know when to not take eachother too seriously. In reality I'd be more than happy to share my cupcakes with her
And hey, long term friendships can most definitely get formed on forums. I think quite a few people will keep in touch after babies are born. If you think it's a waste of time though, the red X in the top right corner closes you out of your browser and you wont need to waste any more time starting things on a calm thread that somewhat derailed into cake-chatter. :-??

I'm a Mac user and I don't have a red X in right corner. I feel sad now since you've attacked me over my computer preference. Hateful wench...
Once again, I was not referring to anyone. Sorry if the cake eaters took it that way. Honestly, I was referring to the tacky and greedy comments. Then was put on for the cake... Everyone has opinions.
Can I ask though how old the general age group of this thread is?
Maybe it's because I prefer pie over cake.
So, wait, now you are playing along with our pie chatter? I guess @komorebi just fixed the thread with pie in a way I couldn't with cake. Good job lady!!!

I could actually go on a tangent about why macs arent worth their pricetag, but I'll keep my nerd-pants hanging in the closet. God knows I dont fit into them anymore with this belly in the way anyways. X_X
I'm done wasting my time. Having this discussion.

yay momma that's how we do it here no need to be too serious with this kind of thread theres some threads where yes we are super serious, yup i do think its a pie vs cake thing , and yea no age doesn't have much to do with anything, just that we are all pretty relaxed with each other to joke around like this....and you how they say......
@leighann1 My hubby is a total tech nerd, hardcore, and he isn't an Apple fan at all. I'd try to explain why but I don't understand a single word of tech babble that comes out of his mouth.
I wasn't sure about this either since my family is in another state I decided to wait to see if any of my friends mentioned it. One did thankfully so I have been working with her toplan it. We decided a co-ed diaper party would be better than an actual shower because I am quite a few hand me downs..

@MelMel92 "I could actually go on a tangent about why macs arent worth their pricetag, but I'll keep my nerd-pants hanging in the closet. God knows I dont fit into them anymore with this belly in the way anyways. X_X"
Hashtag work perk.
And I'm not wearing any pants at the moment, nerdy or otherwise. I'm scared to pick out my clothes for work tomorrow because I swear I grew over the weekend.
@Leighann1 It likely depends on the type of nerd. While in college for programming, we had to use macs on some days because that's what was in the classrooms. They most definitely are a pain in the ass to code on compared to a windows pc. I'm no windows fangirl either though, and the only reason I run it is because Linux isnt supported by most things. As soon as gaming on Linux makes more headway, its byebye windows for sure.
Now, while apple used to be very innovative back in the day, in current times they dont actually innovate anything and charge way too much for an inferior product. You pay for the brand plain and simple, and the OS, while clean, isnt as widely supported by a long shot. Which by the way is also why it doesnt have many virus issues: its just not worthwile to create a malicious program because of how little its used in the grand scheme of things (businesses being the big one in that department).
My pc is home built, and cost around $1500 (DH splurged on the pc instead of an expensive ring for our engagement, we're weird people). It is far superior to anything that mac has to offer, for a fraction of the price. Now, why would any computer-nerd rave about a device that costs too much, isnt easy to fix (if a part breaks you'll find it's real difficult to replace in a macintosh), and underperforms?
Their big thing used to be that they were ahead in the game for creative purposes, but those days are long gone as well. They're still used a lot in that industry because it's become a standard, rather than them actually still being better in that department.
Also, darn you, I SAID ID LET THEM HANG IN THE CLOSET. LOOK AT ME NOW. )

Omg...
Candy bar/murder clown craving, anybody?

@gabrielafrnqyepez how about a pickle surprise?
The Internet is a strange and exciting place.
