It's clownish. And surprising. I'm glad i ate the rest of the pickles today.
Damn i am out of pickles tooo ...o no my fridge needs some serious work.... i forgot those too !!! see now cake and pickles and i just finished the ice cream !!! ....this combo has gotten real hard on me!!!!!
I'm not understanding why it's such a big deal to throw your own shower. Maybe you greedy chicks only throw showers for gifts but us humble folk are trying to share our excitement about a blessing that is coming into this world. It's not all about gifts. Besides you never get what you really need anyways. Grow up, it's 2015. Women are having and raising babies on their own these days.
Not sure I can agree with this statement. Yesterday I had a shower given by my friend. I received a lot of really nice things from mom's who know more about raising children than me and they gave me gifts that were not on my registry but that I'm sure I needed more than the gifts that were on my registry. Like nail clippers.
I also don't think that women who throw their own showers are "greedy chicks" when they have no one to throw it for them. While I don't think it's correct etiquette wise either, I wouldn't go as far as to call them greedy. Baby stuff is expensive. And every little bit helps. You can't find it all at garage sales and thrift shops. I honestly enjoyed seeing all of friends together yesterday, especially since I hadn't seen some of them in a long time. Getting things to help us out is a nice bonus though.
Oh and there wasn't any cake at my shower, or dessert. I was a bit sad to be honest so I made those brownies for the surprise party I went to after.

You guyz. Why didn't we take this thread and turn it into a fun-ass game?

I leave for work for 9 hours and come back to this! Clearly, one of the best ideas on a baby shower thread since I determined to lock everyone in a room without air conditioning and make them spell/name my baby.
I think it's tacky to call people tacky and I'm sure someone will think I'm tacky for saying that. (+30)
Is wanting a shower in general gift grabby? How about being excited to have a shower - is that gift grabby? (+20)
I mean, I'd be content with friends and cake and/or pie. I don't exclude based on dessert preferences. Alternative party called a Baby Cake? Similar to sip n see and baby-q, except much heavier on the desserts. (+150)
Bad Manners - responding at all. (+10)
And I'm 35 years old. I have a doctorate and deal with all sorts of horrible shit in my real life (humans can be so cruel to each other and I will always provide them excellent healthcare regardless of any of it). The support I look for is light-hearted and fun - it keeps me grounded and sane-ish. It's also hard for me to watch people get so upset about baby showers and baby toys knowing that 2 hours ago I had my hands in a 9-year-old's chest to massage their heart in the hopes of keeping them alive long enough to go to an operating room to fix the damage caused by a bullet. Then, I got to wash up and take care of the person who pulled the trigger, because they got injured as well. So, please excuse my "immaturity" on this BMB at times. Real life is hard and scary.
@RainNFyre, -10 points for spelling. It's "Badde Manors." It's really tacky of you to not obey the etiquette of this game and you won't do well at the next sip n see you are invited to if you don't get with the program. (+70)
Not only do I excuse your "immaturity", I straight up embrace it. Real life is hard and scary and sometimes I need to talk about cake so I don't freak out.
@RainNFyre You win the game, for many reasons. The first and foremost being that I believe you are heroic and strong and have a huge heart. You also have a wonderful sense of humor. I always look forward to interacting with you on here. You're fabulous.
But what is underneath that delectable looking Ronald Reagan?

I cannot say what the actual cake is. I think the surprise element is part of the allure.
Also, is it bad that I think movie star/pre-politician Reagan is hot as f**k?
I go to bed and try to sleep for a few hours and this is what I miss? Forget sleep, I'm Bumping 24/7 from now on.
I like pie and cake equally. And they had both at my FIL's 60th birthday party yesterday, but I didn't get even a BITE of pie because I had a two year old to deal with, who decided he'd had enough and melted down right as the cake was being served. I just wanted a bite, since I'm not really supposed to be eating sugar. And my MIL is a really good cook! My FIL is also the least gift-grabby person I've ever met so he deserved a wonderful birthday celebration.
As for the Mac vs. PC debate, I'm all Apple all the time. I am the furthest thing from a tech nerd, so I'll let you guys battle that out in your own. But I've owned 3 computers in my day, two of which I actually bought for myself. The first, my MacBook, which I bought after my sisters raved about theirs . . . I loved my MacBook. It was the bottom of the line 13-in and still cost over $1,000, so I agree that Apple stuff ha overpriced . . . But that thing lasted me over 4 years, travelled with me to Mexico and Kenya and survived my numerous clumsy moments of dropping it. I killed it when I accidentally knocked my Blue Moon onto the keyboard . . . Apple wanted $750 to fix it. How rude.
So DH and I decided we'd use some of our tax return that year to get me a new laptop, and figured if we're going to spend $750, it might as well be new. We bought an HP. Biggest mistake ever. That computer was NEVER easy to use like my Mac, and 13 months to the day after we bought it, it crashed. I took it to Best Buy it Geek Squad to take a look. And they said if was a motherboard failure, and admitted that the motherboard as defective. But since it was out of warranty (conveniently), it would cost hundreds to fix it, on too of spending $35 just to ship it out. Had I spent my money on fixing my MacBook, I'd have one working laptop instead of two dead ones laying around my house. So sorry but I think Macs are better.
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. I'm trying to decide if I'm going to eat a German chocolate cake or a good old fashioned apple pie after DD is born. Maybe one of each?

momma u are officially one of my favs here !!!!! its because of amazing women like you that this world is some what better ....i just have to say i would not be able to do what you do i think id be all like ....
so now my question is to all you etiquette mommas...what is the etiquette when wanting to consume large amounts of cake ...pie...pickles....and brownies....and can you or can you not combine with either a mac or a pc...is there a cake to pc or cake to mac thing i should know ...because after all i am the tackiest one around these parts !!!
Are we talking about what we are going to eat after baby comes out? I already told my husband he needs to get me a burger from my two favorite burger places. There's also a milkshake involved. But I hadn't really thought about actual dessert yet.......

When I was finally allowed to eat real food after delivering my son, I ordered a burger and chocolate cake from the hospital cafeteria. I had these glorious visions of a juicy cheeseburger and moist yet fluffy cake . . . Boy was I disappointed! Both were dry and flavorless.
ETA, I'm wondering if my MIL could be talked into bringing me a German chocolate cake whenever she comes to see the baby.

I'm actually wondering the same thing about your MIL. I mean, she sounds like she makes a mean German chocolate cake and for the price of cake, she is welcome to cuddle my newborn.
I keep coming back to this thread just to see what new delicious things are posted. I stopped at Target on my way in to work to pick up a present for my nephew and also came back with 3 new pieces of clothing for me and Heath bar that I ate at 10:30 am. No shame.
For the record, Swedish Apple Pie is my favorite pie since you don't even have to make a crust, if anyone wants to bring me some.
I must be the drunk of the group, because while you're all focused on what to eat after your delivery, I'm all like "Please bring me some single malt scotch and a bottle of wine."
I'll totally take a Bailey's and coffee with my pie/cake. Ain't gonna lie! We found out I was pregnant the weekend coming back from Jamaica.....it's been killing me seeing all the alcohol we brought back that I haven't been able to touch!
And this pie/cake debate is hard. To me it would depend on what you put in front of me. If you put a piece of vanilla cake with white frosting one side and then warm apple pie with ice cream on the other....pie is winning that war. Now add some raspberry filling to that white cake and then we have a serious debate.
Re: Is it ok to do your own babyshower instead of having a family member/friend throw you one?
It's cool, I look awesome in them anyways. :-B

I can't help that I'm aroused by old Hollywood actors turned terrible politicians and cake.
@MariahOBrien I can dig Jimmy Stewart, but I'm more of a Brando girl
@MariahOBrien Those glasses are the sex.
I love how we went from baby showers to cake to hot, older (all deceased) men. Natural progression.
