Re: Longest Thread EVER! (aka Random Thoughts Thread )

  • Doc said the other day that 102 is too high for teething. M's fever is gone but omg this is an awful night. He is just shrieking. I don't know how to fix it.

  • Going to see santa today. Baby has been up 3/4 of the night and the visit lands during normal afternoon nap time. Looking forward to some fabulous shots.

On another note, how the hell am I suppose to function at work on this little sleep when I go back in 3 weeks? I don't know how you guys do it. As a nurse I require the use of my brain to not kill people. I'm lucky I remember to wear pants most days.
  • Most nights our pretty sleepless here. I get 5-6 hours most nights with a wake up somewhere in there. I don't know why this baby hates sleep so much.
  • thank god last night was the night DH came home!  we had to alternate holding DS all night long.

@hlm184‌ That looks pretty classic for roseola, a viral illness. Good thing is the fever usually ends pretty quickly after the rash arrives. Baby should recover just fine. Things to look out for are fever more than 3 days, unable to hold liquids down or any other concern you have. Hope he feels better soon!

@eme520 that was what my google-fu told me!  I'm glad you agree!

His fever broke yesterday (3 days of it), then the rash started late last night, so it looks like he is following the timeline exactly!

ETA: He's been napping in his crib for almost two hours now, so hopefully catching up on much-needed rest.

he's reading the book. Did you tell your pediatrician yet? I seem to remember he was on antibiotics, so they may want to stop those now. It doesn't hurt to check.
He just had a one-time ABX shot, so that's done.  I can't talk to my pediatrician on the weekend, I'll just get pushed to a national line who can pretty much only tell me to go to urgent care, so I was kinda holding off on calling them.

  • My dd had roseola as a baby. A day or two of fever and then the rash appeared once the fever broke. She was acting normal as soon as the fever went away! If it is roseola he should be feeling better soon. :-)

  • poor sick babies. Glad he's feeling better @hlm184!

Appreciating all the autism stuff - thanks for bringing it up @soultermination. We have some definite risk factors on both sides so it's something we're very aware of. Right now the only concern for me is that he's not babbling yet. Makes plenty of noise, but no repetitive sounds. Otherwise, he is pretty interactive, so I'm trying not to worry. It is on the list to be worried if he isn't doing it by 9 months, so we've got a month to get him into gear :)

  • @soultermination @calinaz

The newest studies are showing that lack of joint attention can be the first possible marker, which babies start to exhibit around 6 months.

Smiles and copying you (claps etc) are good things right now to see too.  Interactive attention getting games like peekaboo are good things to see as well.
  • This is going to sound dumb but I don't even understand how to play peekaboo. I always confuse myself. Do I cover my eyes or DS's eyes? Haha I realize I sound idiotic but I honestly don't know. I asked DH and he had no idea either.

You can do either.  Right now babies are learning about object permanence, so if you cover your face then reappear and say peekaboo LO will probably get a kick out it.

My LO started covering his face on his own then pulling the blanket down, so we just started saying peekaboo! when he does.  It's an attention getting game on his part; if he does it, he gets a reaction from us.  They'll also start doing things eventually (even naughty things) just to get reactions.  They also learn that way.

  • So... Toronto is a nice city! Big and busy! A few creeps here and there trying to pick fights but not bad overall.
  • Dude! I called myself lurking over on parenting. Those bitches be cray (is that how you say it?)
  • So... I've caught DS walking on his hands and feet a lot recently. Is this a prelude to walking or no? Might be a silly question but I'm just curious.

I play both ways. I also play if he peeks around a piece of furniture. He thinks it's hilarious to disappear and reappear.

For those who's LOs have teeth. How high ( if at all ) did their fever get ?? LO just spiked a fever if 102 no other symptoms that I'm aware of .. Just trying to figure out if it's teething or something worse :(

Probably kind of late here, but for the last month or so Alera's had fevers off and on in that range with little sign of anything else wrong, so I assumed it was teething. As of the day before yesterday, she finally got her bottom two central incisors in!

My mom keeps making comments I should stop breastfeeding or that I've been breastfeeding too long. [-(

Ugh. My family is so weirded out by breastfeeding too. My sister keeps making comments about how she hopes I'm not going to to BF DD until she's 10. Yeah, no. I'm not but thanks for making me feel like a weirdo.
My inlaws are like this SIL included. And my grandmother has told me that she thinks women breastfeeding past 6 months is gross.... There isn't really anyone in my family or DH's who breastfed their babies past a few months if at all so they all act like I am some kind of new age hippie for chosing to.

This just happened to me last night! Dh's grandpa made some remark about how long I plan to breastfeed and how he's (LO) not sleeping because he has to get up to "chow down." I said I have no idea but that trying to wean right now would be a huge nightmare and I don't feel like listening to a screaming baby who loves to nurse. It was like inappropriate comment night. Ugh.

I'm flying (19 hr trip) in 2 weeks and WISH I was still nursing. Thinking about bottles and formula while juggling a very active 8 mo old alone is making me a little panicky already. I think I'll be having myself an in-flight cocktail while he naps. Or two.

    Girl have them!
  • The norm when I was a baby was to wean by 6 months and switch to milk (not formula). My mom EBF me and my twin brother and still side-eyes me for "still" nursing LO.

I can't even imagine EBF twins. My mom couldn't pump either, so she was pretty much tied to us for 6 months straight.

  • @tlp2558‌ some members of MH's family don't have much of a filter, unfortunately. But I agree with you: mind your own business grandpa!
  • I miss the closeness I experienced with Gavin while I breastfed. I still struggle with wondering why he weaned himself.
  • Blasting the page.

Update on trying to find wooden toys not made in China for DS. Big fat fail. ALL toys sold in stores are made in China, apparently :(

Ended up ordering on a site that will sort by made in USA toys. So excited to get them for his Christmas gifts!

These are wooden toys made in Oregon!!
  • DD has been sleeping in her crib for the past 3 hrs and 15 min, which is huge for us considering she has still been sleeping in the RNP in our room. However, she's sleeping on her stomach for the first time, so I'm crazy paranoid

I'm sure she's fine but it is nerve wrecking the first couple times it happens. DS has slept on his stomach now for a few months and likes to smush his face into the mattress.

Hopefully it gets better soon @lia619‌ I agree with letting relatives take turns with her. You never know, there may be some nice spirited grandma who keeps her calm.
