Grayson is having a sleep over with my sister tonight. So I am catching up on parenthood and drinking hot chocolate then at 9, I will be watching Revenge in real time!!!!
I get a free pass for Christmas this year (due Dec 31) and I'm using it. Come see me at my convenience otherwise we'll see ya next year!
Ditto, but due 12/18. I'm also using it for Thanksgiving. My butt is not sitting in a car for 3+ hours between now and February (but really probably not until April or Easter. Whenever that is.).
I liked Christmas as a kid, but I am less of a fan now. Most of my family and ILs are relatively local- so we are all over the place for basically the entire week of Christmas. And my MIL is the least accommodating person on the planet. She is insisting on hosting and it starting at 6- she lives 45 minutes away and these kiddos go to bed at 8- so that's going to be great...

Good for you! I'll have to try and stretch it to Easter too --edit: Major quotebox fail--
Well, we share a house with ILs, and my mom comes to visit every month anyway, so it's really just my extended family that we won't see for a while. We do seasonal birthday parties though, so we just saw everyone for Fall/Winter birthdays a couple weeks ago. After Thanksgiving and Christmas the next get together is Spring birthday parties which is usually the weekend of Easter, but sometimes I can talk everyone into a weekend that I have Spring Break instead.
Good luck stretching it to Easter! I also tell people that I'm not taking a baby to a big family gathering before 2-month shots, because someone is always sick and shows up anyway. I mean, not usually with rubella or anything, but it's a good card to play anyway. No one questions it.
When DH was 3ish, it snowed on Halloween (upstate NY). The next time it snowed, DH went and put on his costume, fully expecting to get candy from neighbors every time it snowed. Good luck, @megsw85.
When did you guys cut LO's hair the first time? DH and my IL's ganged up on me last night and are trying to convince me DS needs a haircut. It's not that long...a little over his ears and some hair touches the base of his neck in the back. But its super fine, thin, strawberry blonde hair and I just don't want to do it yet! Am I being crazy??
I missed this post earlier somehow...
I keep having the same crisis, but no one is pressuring me yet. I just know that if I cut his hair he'll look bald again because he's so blond. And he'll lose his adorable baby curls! I'm also imagining a 15-year old B asking why I let him keep that horrible baby mullet for so long. It's very common in my family not to do haircuts before 2 so whenever I bring it up everyone is pretty 'meh' about it.
We tried to hike today. Not so much a hike as a stroll through Franklin Canyon Park and around the lake & pond. It's not particularly steep in most places, and the paths are nice and wide. Baby girl did not want to do it properly. She either wanted to hurl herself into shrubbery full of poison oak and snakes, or she wanted to be carried. I feel like if we are going to get back into this, I should get a hiking carrier. We are going to try the Ergo first and see if that works.
Another smoothie question: has anyone ever added tofu? What kind did/would you use? I've never cooked with tofu (only eaten it out) but LO won't touch meat of any kind and I'm getting worried about his protein intake now that we are only nursing 1-2 a day.
@Cricket81 B won't eat meat either. We don't do smoothies, but he does like to eat tofu (SUPER easy to prepare. We almost always just fry/sautée it in a pan with whatever sauce or leave it plain). He also eats a kind of ridiculous amount of cheese, so I don't worry much about his protein intake. He's in a peanut-free classroom, so I can't send peanut butter or peanut sauces, which is another major protein source for him. I make sure he gets peanutty things on the weekend though.
@GraceInCA all that and you still beat me in the steps challenge yesterday! I just had a stroller and sidewalk to contend with for steps.
We were running around all day yesterday, and last night after everyone was in bed I ended up cleaning the kitchen and mopping living room/dining room floors, which helped with steps. I'm always more active on weekends.
Now if we had been head to head today, you'd probably kill it.
@NaChelleBeck we just use these Playtex straw sippy cups. I blend it really well so it's decently thin (I haven't been adding much liquid though, it's just been working out). It is spill proof and she is able to suck it out just fine. Making our life so much easier now! I made a smoothie late last night and stuck it in the fridge. We had to leave the house early this morning so it was nice to just wake her, change her diaper, hand her the cup and into the car we went.
