MOTN Check-In

Re: MOTN Check-In

  • LO had his worst day since birth yesterday. I couldn't do anything to make him happy and it exhausted me. Now we are up again feeding. I feel like all I do is nurse and dream about nursing. Does that feeling ever go away?

  • How is this child not asleep?? She was wide awake all afternoon and evening until DH got home...even then, she just kind of dozed but woke right up to eat. on feeding #3 so far...I'm hoping she tires out and gives me a good stretch of sleep...we'll see.

Also, wtf DH for canceling our plans tomorrow and for sleeping on the couch tonight? He decided that he'd go to work (he doesn't qualify for OT) for a bit and then hang out with his best friend instead of taking little miss and I apple picking. Then he's going to a coworker's party. Must be nice not to have your life change after having a baby. He also had promised to take DD for a few hours tonight so I could have some sleep.

I'm starting to feel pretty left out and lonely.

Oh no!! I'm sorry. That sucks. My DH went out to eat lunch yesterday while I stayed at home all day by myself. I love my babies, but I don't think our DHs realize how depressing it is to actually LOOK forward to appointments because you get to see people that can talk words to you!!!!! :((
  • @brittneyandadam‌ That sounds frustrating. I'd be pissed. Would he listen to you if you sat down and explained how you're feeling and that you need more help?

LO started the night with a three hour stretch of sleep, unlike last night where she started with a three hour stretch of being awake and screaming occasionally. So inconsistent!
  • 1. As always, I am almost out of water, and this 2am nursing session has me feeling like I am crossing the fucking Sahara.

    2. I want a cookie.

    3. I feel like I'm doing this all wrong because I always hear/read about how starving nursing moms are, and 99.9% of the time I have 0 appetite.

  • Well we have been working on sleeping in the crib. Earliervbefore bed I laid LO in the crib she was wide awake. She amazingly lasted 30 mins before crying, and for her that is a miracle. Tonight when we put here in there when asleep she is lasting about 20 mins which is up from 5 a week ago. I feel quite accomplished. We will continue to place her in there more when awake to get her use to it.

  • we have a poopy baby now. after seeing the ped and confirming out constipation poor thing got a rectal exam and then got sent home on orders of "more prune juice and a suppository". Well as soon as that suppository hit.... omg. I never knew a baby could hold that much poo. No wonder she was so grumpy. She's been sleeping pretty well tonight and eating well (and we got another small poop)

also im sitting here pumping and I notice a seam just came undone on the nursing bra I JUST bought. WTF. Now I have a hole. im not happy

I always seem to put my drink just out of reach when punping. Also I hear it can go either way with the hunger/thirst while nursing. One of my nurses said she was always starving and never thirsty with her first kid and was the exact opposite with the second.

  • Bf has been going so well until yesterday and he's still eating well but has that 'I'ma newborn and I'm just going to wriggle around uncontrollably while you're trying to feed me so that this will never be productive and then I'll get mad and scream because now I'm starving!!!!!!' Issue going on. Seriously frustrating that 20 minutes and 1000 attempts later he finally latches. Good. Let's get this show on the road. I want to go back to sleep.
  • Svuto my before bed pump was dismal for me... 2 ozs (I usually have 4-5). It was 3 hrs after a previous normal pump.

Just finished my motn pump... 6 ozs. It was 4 hrs after the crappy pump. What the heck? All over the place. I do all the tricks... Leave it on extra, up the suction towarda the end, massage. All work good but that before bed pump was sad

sometimes it just fluctuates depending on aall sorts of thingslike how hydrated or stressed you are

  • so about half of the night feeds we keep having to put lo in the swing to calm her down and get her back to sleep. ugh I don't like this habit

  • This is my H's first night back at work. My mom is here with me, sleeping in the guest room. Now when I nurse, my dog goes and sleeps with her. It makes me sad. I have to get his favorite toy to get him to come back to bed with me.

  • I know this is only night 2 home for us... but i feel like we can do this if she does this every night! (i know she won't) I am giving dh the night off since we had nightmare baby from 4-9a yesterday (gas pains... boo) and he didn't get to sleep until her 3am feeding last night.  Little Ro has went to sleep quickly in her pnp after EVERY nurse tonight. She has been rotating between sleeping almost a full 3, then only sleeping 1, then going back and sleeping almost a full 3, then only sleeping 1.  Our wake up alarm has never went off tonight, she has always started to wake JUST before it goes off. I feel like a champion after how hard we fought yesterday morning.

On the flip side she went twice today almost 4 hours between feedings because her deep sleeps seem to happen in the afternoon evening hours and it seemed like no matter what I tried I couldn't get her to wake.  She nursed well once she woke up.. but I feel like a monster after the midwife preached "every 2-3 hours."

  • @tigger99‌ DS just did the same thing to me. But he was actually sucking on the side of my boob, I was just to tired to realize.
Now B doesn't think he should sleep, 12:45 is now the time to be up..of course the MOTN is fun when it keeps mamma up. DD has now walked in to join us, it's one of those nights.
  • @JudyBlume14‌ Im sorry to hear that. Have you visited with a LC that will weigh your LO after feeding off each side to see how much milk she's getting?

  • Last night was so good, so of course tonight is a total nightmare. I'm not 100% sure if I've slept yet. I think I might have dozed off for ten minutes in between her freaking out.
  • Wishing the best for you guys @crystalangel79‌

2:40 here. LO was up toest at 1:30 making that 5.5 hour stretch! Too bad we hung out at BIL/SIL till 11:00 so I didn't benefit in the sleep department! Fed LO from 1:30-2:10---takes forever bc of his lack of burping and reflux issues....

At 2:15 DS1 woke crying for me....went in got him settled and by 2:25 was back in bed. Spent 10 min looking for this thread. @smileyGirl18 any way we can pin this thread so it's always on pg 1?)

Going to try to sleep so I can get in at least an hour before LO wakes to eat again. Other than that one good stretch each night, he's barely making it 2.5 hours between feedings. He's already at 4 oz...I dont think I should increase him yet at 3 weeks old!???

  • @crystalangel79‌ lots of prayers that you get that discharge date!

nothing much here... just pumping as usual and a gassy baby that likes to make lots of noise ;) she slept well AFTER midnight. not so much leading up to it (so much for momma geeting to go to bed early like she planned)

  • Just gave T his bottle with his vitamins and about to do my nightly pump.  I'm gonna have to start figuring out a pumping schedule soon for when I go back to work.  I'm gonna be on nights, so it's gonna be a little tricky.  I don't go back for another three weeks, but I need to start making the transition now, and figure out what times I'm gonna pump at work so I can give my flight chief a rough schedule.

  • Up for our 4am. We have a mass in the morning, in memory of my grandfather since tomorrow would have been his birthday. 8:30am is pushing it a bit, but since we are at my parents, I have my mom to help out with everyone. We shall see if we all make it.

I turn the tv on every time I nurse pretty much just for the light that it gives off and background noise. I am pretty sure I have seen every flipping infomercial in the last 10 days! I think I'll be doing all my christmas shopping during MOTNF, multitasking for the win! Now to figure out who I should buy the Wolf Gang Puck pressure cooker for...if I order in the next 8 minutes they will take $50 off my order!! LOL!!
We sleep with the TV on, and my MOTN wake ups tend to happen during the same shows every night on TBS or Nick at Nite depending on what channel we ended up having on when we fell asleep.  I have seen an entire season of the George Lopez Show, and I occasionally wake up to Friends.  And then in the early morning, it's Married With Children, Meet the Browns, or House of Payne.

  • First feeding took an hour and a half between nursing for 40 mins and a pooping session. Then she got up an hour later for a diaper change and 10 mins of nursing. Now I can't sleep. Why oh why?!

@‌Shimmer475 - I got a tablet just so I can watch Netflix in the nursery. But I also ordered stuff from old Navy and zulilly during MOTN nursing. This is dangerous... I like the Christmas shopping idea.

  • Ok if B thinks it's a good idea to be up at 12:45, fine with me! We just got a four hour stretch and I swear, best sleep of my life! Now I have to try to go back to sleep.
  • She was doing so good tonight...MIL watched her so we could go out amd she fed DD at 8...I went to bed at10:30, and DH brought her up at 12 to eat. Got a good 2.5 hours of sleep until the next feeding and that's where it all went to hell. Tried to put her down at 3, but she kept waking up as soon as I set her in the PNP. That went on til 4. Got her to fall asleep on my chest and we both slept that way until 5...she fed and is now wide awake.

Trying the crib tomorrow night...I'm thinking she doesn't like the PNP, but I've gotten her to nap in the crib and she does well.

I have lost track of what's even happened tonight. I have no idea what times she's been up or how long she's eaten. I just know it's been a lot.

There were some people I wanted to wish luck while I was reading this thread, but I can't remember all the screen names now. :-??

    ETA: Thread, not threat!
  • Yesterday was a long day. I started to feel a little relief from my headache and decided I was ok to go to sil's for a quick dinner. Ds1 acted out because I said I needed to leave and made my escape drag out. By the time we got him in the car, i was a painful, sweating mess. Being in so much pain makes it so difficult to bf the baby and take care of his needs.

I got ds2 latched and fed by 1:15am, put him in his bed and heard explosion number 1. Changed dirty diaper and was closing the tape on the clean diaper when he peed and it ran all out the side before the tape was closed. Change diaper. Again. Grab clean clothes. Throw clothes on bed. Pick baby up. Hear very loud poop number 2.

    I. Quit. Here is your son, dh. Enjoy.

Did finally get him quieted down and asleep for close to 4 1/2 hrs though. I just fed and changed him again. Got him in bed again. And heard the poo again as I am writing this.

There is cheesecake in the fridge that I think now has my name on it when lo finally goes back to bed....

DS is driving me up the wall. He was very fussy all day yesterday and not really eating a full feeding, just kind of snacking then staying up for hours. He just woke up after sleeping for 2 hours and it took me almost an hour just to put him down so I could pump. I just want to be finished so I can go back to sleep :/

  • Of course the one day all week I can't take a nap (church, farmer's market, birthday party, small group for church) is the day DD decides to be up at 5 and not go back to sleep until my boys are awake. Today should be interesting.

How do they know?? My toddler always picks the mornings after LO is up all night to get up super early.

  • @PintoBean77‌ have you tried swaddling? DS always fussed at first when I swaddle him, but I pick him up, still swaddled, finish feeding him, rock him to sleep, and then he stays asleep for a good bit. He also hates being put down and loves to be held tight. I think swaddling gives him the sensation of being held.
  • DS moved his fussy/constantly both wanting and not wanting to nurse to nowish. Tonight is either going to go really well once he settles down and sleeps, or it's going to suck out loud.

Also, I think I'm developing another plugged duct, and *insert childish foot stomping* I don't wanna!!! Shit sucks.

  • Does anyone else's LO use hunger cues to signal dirty diapers?? Because she seriously acts hungry, won't latch (does this oh hell no head banging shaking thing) and then I check her diaper (since little miss asserted on day one that she would not latch with ANYTHING in that diaper) and change her, then all hunger cues drop and if I try to feed her she has a melt down.

Actually it honestly just feels like she uses hunger cues to get my attention period.. she will of course cry when she wants something and isn't getting it or is in pain.. but now that I really think about it I pick her up at the slightest hunger cue.

  • So apparently I'm the one mom out there who breast feeds better in public than in private. Went to a support group at my hospital today and baby latched beautifully during the group. Same thing when we went to my parents' house. But I get home, and I psych myself out, and thus we have a fussy baby trying to latch on. Yay! Not.

  • I'm totally freaking myself out with trying to make sure LO gets at least 8 nursings. It just seems impossible to fit that many times in a day. Most days we get 6/7. I'm to the point where I'm having nightmares.

I will feel some much better after our appt on Wednesday when I will finally know how much weight she has gained.
    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker

  • If I had fallen asleep when I went to bed, I would have gotten 1.5 hours of sleep before LO got up. Instead I tossed and turned and got about thirty minutes. Grrr.
  • I have to pee sooo bad, but LO is only just barely asleep right now. I'm afraid to lay her down and get her torn out of frame for me to pee and then neither of us gets to sleep all night!! :) just hold on little bladder!!!
  • DH is an insomniac who is not learning he needs to sleep when she sleeps, which means start sleeping earlier... I feel like tomorrow I'm gonna have two grumpy babies because Ro just can't seem to latch without the shield tonight(big boobs v tiny mouth issues) and that shield makes her more spit-up-y and more burp-y and less easy to put back to sleep. And DH is getting his video game fix in because "I was busy with the baby this afternoon while you caught up on some sleep." I guess he'll learn eventually...
