It's official. My children are working together to make sure I never sleep again. Marchie was asleep and Freshie was up screaming. Finally got Freshie to settle and Marchie wakes up all clingy. Got her back to sleep and I hear the little grunts starting up from Freshie. I can't win. Freshie was up all night last night. I need sleep.
1) Anyone else not have a letdown? I don't get milk spraying everywhere...I can just squeeze a little and milk comes out. Same for when I pump...the milk just kind of comes out as soon as the pump starts.
2) LO must have sucked my brains out through my boobs b/c I can't remember what the fuck else I was going to say...
3) Anyone else "lose" time during MOTN feedings? I'll pick her up, start feeding...and then all of a sudden it'll be 2 hours later and I have no clue what happened. It scares me b/c I'm pretty sure I'm falling asleep (or being abducted by aliens and then put back) and I don't want to drop her and have her suffocate in my lap or the blankets on yhethe bed.

Frustrated and it is only 11:20. Had DS on one side forever, and he kept pulling off and latching on and pulling/tugging and crying. I could express milk fairly easily, so I don't know if he wasn't getting any or was getting too much. Changed him, switched sides, and now he's asleep on the boob after no time eating at all. So glad we see the LC again tomorrow.

My DD 3weeks old still will not sleep at night unless held. I tried her bouncer tonight as she sleeps great in it during the day but nope cried after 5 mins.... I am starting to feel like nothing will work and I really don't want to spend $60ish on a RNP that may or may not work Had one friend tell me to just let her cry it out....um she is 3weels old never would I dream of doing that to her. I just need to let her out grow this phase and make myself stay awake as much as possible while she sleeps at night as its to scary for me to sleep like this, although I will admit I have caught myself accidentally sleeping. I really do love being a mommy i would not change it for the world, I am just exhausted.

I put a heating pad in her PNP while I feed her...and then remove it when I put her back in...it keeps her spot warm and cuts down on the fussiness. I'm also hesitant to get a RNP. ..but b/c of the ppl who say that it causes medical problems. That really scares me.

I'm so damn tired I really need to nap at least once during the day when he does. Pretty sure I have a plugged milk duct. I have a painful lump in my lower armpit. Awesome. I also don't feel a let down. When I pump it starts spraying right away. And I never feel anything happen while BFing.
It's only 11 here and I'm having a little anxiety that tonight is the night before induction. Tomorrow we will have another child in this house (so long as the pregnant women around here didn't all decide it was time to have their babies this weekend) Absolutely surreal and I just know there is no sleep happening tonight. Too many last minute things need to be done because I spent all day working on homework with my 13yo.

I started a late afternoon nap and it makes a world of difference. Didnt get it today b/c mom was visiting and boy am I hurting.
I need to make myself do this. Instead of staring at him at every nap.
DS has some serious gas going on and has been up every hour since 10 but still only nursing every two hours. Mamma needs sleep. Oh and I think I have a clogged duct, not sure tho bc I've never had one.

You could always get the RNP, and if it doesn't work you can return it. That's what I had to do with DD1. She would only sleep on my chest so I gave the RNP a shot. She wasn't a fan so back to BRU it went.

baby having gas makes me want to cry. just because I feel so helpless and I know the poor girl is in pain so we've been dealing with that all night. I'm currently pumping and put her in her swing to help get her to sleep.
I think I've felt a couple letdowns, but right now milk just seems to be there already. I remember with DD1 that as she got older, I started feeling more of a consistent letdown.
It's weird, but to me it feels like that feeling you get when you're about to cry and your tear ducts fill with tears, except it's in your boob.
it's weird but I only feel let down occasionally and it's pretry mich never when im pumping or bfing it's always wayyyy beforehand or at a random moment. I def leak when it happens though. oh and my mom and all the nurses said "it's the coolest feeling ever" well not for me... that shit hurts!
My first motn check in. Came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon so it's our first night at home. Baby boy has been up feeding on and off for the last 4 hours. We've changed him twice, tried rocking him, tried the swing...no matter what we do as soon as he realizes he's not on the breast we have unhappy baby. My milk hasn't come in yet so I feel bad for him not getting much and I'll assume he's comfort sucking. Hopefully things get a little easier.

Our LC recommended we start LO on bottles at 4 weeks to get him used to them for when I go back to work (she said at least 3 bottles per week, up to one a day). We'll it didn't go so great. He took the bottle fine but cried and cried after he finished. I tried everything to CA him and eventually put him on the boob, then he was fine. He nursed for a regular length feeding even after the bottle. Did I not give him enough in the bottle?? The LC said an average feeding on the breast is 2.5 oz but she suspected E was eating a bit more than that based on his weight gain, so I gave him 3oz. Anyone have thoughts on this or experience phasing in bottles? We have a Pedi appt on Wednesday so we'll try a bottle again before then and talk to the Pedi if it doesn't go better.
Also, it's technically Monday now which means my LO is one month old today! Time really does speed up when you have a kid!
Were your seeing/hearing swallows? I would think that 3 ounces was plenty, so maybe comfort nursing?
DS slept a good stretch early in the evening, then woke up every 2 hours. I get frustrated because he won't latch in the same way on the shield, even though I don't do anything differently.
I didn't start feeling let down until a few days ago. At first, I only felt it when I fed him. This past day or so, I feel it come on right before I need to feed him.
Finally! My September Siggy Challenge: TV Show I'll Be Binge Watching

Yes, surprisingly he was actually swallowing, not just comfort nursing. I can't imagine why he would have needed more than the 3oz bottle unless I happened to catch him during a growth spurt or something.
My LO can eat nearly 4 oz some feeds, and he's only 10 days old. He mostly ate that much during his 1 week growth spurt, but will still eat between 2-4 oz, just depending in how he feels. He is BF, also, but when he does eat that much breastmilk, he tends to sleep for 4 hours instead of 2.

A little different situation here...I supplement with formula. But, did you try putting him on the boob first and then offering the bottle? That's how our pedi suggested we go about it. Sometimes DH will just give her a bottle to give me a break...and she'll get super fussy afterward until she latches on the boob. However, if she latches first then has a bottle, she's usually fine.

I hadn't tried this but will give it a shot with the next bottle. My only concern would be if he gets used to latching before taking a bottle, will he adjust when I'm not around and he just has to go straight to the bottle?
She does ok...like I said, she'll get fussy if DH gives her a bottle...but after he burps her and then snuggles her, she does calm down. I think it's b/c she sucks it down so fast that it doesn't register with her that she's full

LO is a mess tonight, and I feel totally clueless. Every now and then, usually at night, she will latch, suck a few times, the pull off and scream bloody murder. She has been doing that all evening now.
I don't know if she's hungry or just wants to comfort suck or if she has a tummy ache or reflux or what. It is really frustrating and sad. I'm worried she's hungry and I'm not feeding her, then I'm worried she's over-filling her tummy or getting too much foremilk.
@biokitty42, when my LO was doing that, I flipped her onto her tummy with her arms under her chest and her head tilted to the side (see pic).
I rubbed her back and sides and she started tooting up a storm. Turned out she had a lot of trapped gas that she was confusing for hunger.
Hope you find something that works!
Thanks for the tip! I will try that next. She's been crying for over an hour with a few short breaks. DH is walking around the kitchen holding her, which seems to be helping some.
Right now is our first motn nursing session... so we met with the LC (now yesterday) and dd did great. once got home.. I'm pretty sure not so great. but hard to tell if her screaming for 3hours was due to gas or food. Im guessing gas now that she slept for a bit. I already broke the no pumping rule... but hard not to pump once when you're goig from 70oz a day to just what a 5lb 6 w old baby is eating without being crazy engorged and in danger of mastitis
I am really struggling. Baby girl is 5 days old now, and my milk hasn't fully come in. Poor baby. I feel so bad for her. She's nursing on the fuller side now so I'm hoping she'll be more satisfied and may sleep more toward the 3 hour time frame than 1-2 like she's been doing at night.
My LO had a horrible evening. I wonder if it was gas too. And he was sweating like a grown man too. I took his temperature and it was only 98.2 so I'm glad he didn't have a fever. He slept for a long stretch until I woke him up to feed. I'm glad I did now because I almost missed my awesome labor buddy's @beccalou12 messages that she was having her baby!! (See separate thread for details!)
First motn with an outside baby! He's so cute and bf like a pro so far. Fingers crossed it continues when my milk comes in. I fell asleep after his last feeding and woke up to the glorious noises that come with what you can only assume is an explosion of tarry poop. Thankfully he gave the nice diaper to me and the bad one to dh a little earlier.
@katalina86 That really does sound like what my LO is doing. I'm leaking all over the place, too. Maybe it's coming out too fast and that's bothering them? Or too much foremilk?
Let me know what your pedi says on Wednesday, though if this keeps up, I might be calling mine, too.
So, just woke up with LO and we're both pooping up a storm. I know, TMI, but, when you gotta go, and LO is screaming hungry, you feed him in the throne. Lol
