Sigh. Today is American Girl doll tea party camp at the museum. I have the majority of the original collection (I have Felicity, Samantha and Kirsten with most of their "stuff") and I recently realized they don't even sell the original 4 anymore.
I love being the mom of boys but this is making me feel like I may have to try and find or make me a girl baby.
I'm one of TWO middle children. Four girls. Do you know how easy it is to get passed over when you have to be co-middle-daughter? It's why I talk so much. HERE I AM!!!!!
LO has been using my old fitted sheet from college on his floor bed. Last night the elastic in it finally gave up the ghost. I'm super bummed that it's time to retire it, but at the same time, I'm happy that it got more use beyond my college years :-)
Second upside: LO and I need to go to IKEA today to buy more sheets. Anybody have any must-have IKEA items that I should pick up while I'm there?
My cleanup efforts today consist of attempting to launder a few items and finding space upstairs for the stuff that was downstairs. I'm considering not doing it and instead resume my binge watching of Scandal and eating cheesecake.
also @musicalsilver, meatballs. As many meatballs as you can put in your freezer. My boys (including DH) are meatball fanatics, and the Swedish meatballs there are a fave. When G was little I brought him to the cafeteria line and he almost fell out of the cart trying to attack the buffet tray full of meatballs.
I just spent the past two hours looking at cruise deals. But my main reason for looking is because I'm coming to terms with the fact that a Switzerland trip next year is not going to happen.
I am starting to totally freak out about not having a teaching job for this year yet. I hate looking for work and I hate not knowing what is going to happen for LO. I have a couple weeks still because we start in September, but it's getting so close.
@kari5186 good luck. You're a lot braver than I am. I still haven't worked up the courage to sleep train/CIO. It's gotten better for us though. We're all here if you need a shoulder to cry on!
Thanks so much ladies! You made me cry (that's also the sleep deprivation kicking in, ha). I'm sure I'll be asking lots of dumb questions and looking for guidance. Don't get sick of me!
you know what's a fun way to spend your day working from home?
Trying to pick the lock that was locked, from the inside, by the cleaning lady (and the only key was inside). I now know how, so give me your address and at least 2.5 hours and I'm totally breaking in!!
What a disaster!!! We lost so much in our house flood last night! Spent the entire day bleaching and hauling our losses to the curb. We still have so much to do in the garage still. The worst part about today? Watching the garbage pickers go through our sewage soaked shit and load it in their vehicles!!! Really??? We threw it all out because it is contaminated!!! Not because we don't want it!!!!
Anyways.... Thank you all for the dry thoughts!!!! We are slowly getting our lives back!
@workinit and @tiffletons518 I'm so sorry! Reading this actually made me tear up for you, I couldn't imagine watching people walk off with stuff I wasn't ready to part with in the first place. Thinking of you all and sending you happy vibes!
Thanks everyone on the input on the Lasik v. housecleaning debate! I was leaning towards housecleaning only because if I get Lasik, DH will think he should be able to get it too and he has 3x better vision than me and doesn't *really* need to wear glasses so I don't feel like arguing with him about how I should get it and he doesn't really need it. Once I am done nursing though I want to schedule a consult to see if it's even possible, then that way I can see if I'm even a candidate. I presumed I was, but then I remembered I have a scar on my eye from an eye ulcer so that might pose a problem.
It's a tough call! We have a big house (thankful, not complaining) and it's really hard for me to keep up. 3 bathrooms + 4 dudes using them on a regular basis is starting to affect my sanity!
@calikat80 some advise for the housekeeper (if you go that way)...
With the size of your house they might quote you very expensive (they usually do it based on bathroom/bedrooms). If you identify the rooms that they should do every time and then have them rotate the rest, it will save $$.
For example, we have an upstairs room and bathroom that are almost never used, she cleans them every third visit. The other two visits she does the standard and one "special project" - like clean the fans or the fridge or whatever we want.
Nail down exactly what you want them to do (in our house that's toilets and the kitchen, we don't have her waste her time giving the floors extra attention)
No that is really helpful @wasnotwas! That makes sense because we have an extra bedroom and bathroom in the basement that gets used all summer, but only when we have guests in the "off" season so it shouldn't need attention by the time I get this going for almost another year.
I have so many special projects, I am getting giddy thinking of a list I can just hand to someone else! My ceiling fan blades look like they have fur lining. Gross.
I can't believe I haven't told y'all this yet...last night I started and finished a book in 3 hours for the first time in a long time. I drank wine and stayed up late to finish it. The book was so good! Very easy to read. Called We Were Liars

That's impressive @WasNotWas! I haven't finished a book since G was an infant... all the books I've tried to read are half read, and I can't even remember what the first half talked about anymore...
It's also impressive that you did this while drinking wine... I would have fallen asleep within 10 minutes if I drank and read at the same time! Props to you!
School supplies are the bomb! Three is nothing like a new notebook with crisp, white sheets of paper in it and a pack of brand new pens. We won't talk about brand new Sharpies or I'll probably start hyperventilating.
fresh highlighters! did you see the new one that the plastic around the tip is see through?!
I will continue to be in an office managerial role so I can order school supplies at a discount through my office until my children go to college. Seriously, it's one of the best benefits!
3M used to be one of MH's customers and they would send a sample box of products that either were best sellers or were in development for Christmas and MH would legit wrap it and give it to me because he knew how jazzed I got
@violet1183 I wouldn't rule out coxsackie based on no sores. G never got sores except maybe IN his mouth which was why he wouldn't eat. And when Lo had it a few weeks ago he had the same symptoms you described and only developed a few sores on his hands after the fevers were over. Hang in there, it usually passes but if you are really worries go to ER!
I also hit up the Dollar Tree to stack up on posterboard, because I hate it when I get notice the night before about needing it for something. Ok, all done. Now I need a drink (or two).
I feel so bad, Ty got bit today so I texted my girlfriend who has a daughter in his class and it was her daughter who was the biter. She said that because her daughter has bitten 3 times (two of those time was Tyler) she had to leave work early and pick her up.
Anyone have any anti-biting advice I can give her? She's really worried about getting kicked out

Is this a potential business opportunity? Would you pay for someone to shop for school supplies for you? You tell them the school, they have the list, color/character preference, and can use bulk discounts or shop store to store for the lowest prices? I smell money

Every time this stuff comes up, my husband says "Taskrabbit."
You guys please tell me G is going to be an engineer or something good for what I put up with. His nightlight went missing last night. It was actually unplugged and in top of a tall dresser. I just found this part of it, meaning he disassembled the actual electrical part of it. I can't find the bulb. He said he hid it. Shoot me.
If anyone is on their period (like me) and/or is feeling particularly emotional...and wants to wallow on it. This is for you https://youtu.be/-g4TkugrmdQ
Guys I am soooooooooooo happy for my brother and SIL. After 4 losses (and two of them late term), and multiple fertility treatments, they are pregnant and made it to the third tri. They just shared - given their history, they didn't feel safe sharing until the baby reached viability stage.
We have had a difficult relationship in the past and their losses really hit them hard - they've withdrawn into themselves completely lately. I'm so happy for their rainbow baby and I'm hoping this can be the start of a new leaf.
I know they are still nervous so send up a prayer for them if you can.

My kid has gotten more mileage out of their stacking cups than any other toy he owns. Best $2.99 I ever spent.
@musicalsilver ditto what cricket wrote for toys, also this toy:
