Re: Longest Thread EVER! (aka Random Thoughts Thread )

  • I am a wimp after living in Oregon for nine years.  It hardly ever gets hot here, but when it does, I am all with the crowd who goes "OMG, it's 90 degrees out, the world is ending!!!"   My house has no A/C (yep, most don't), except our bedroom which has a window unit.   I will be holed up in there with LO, a cold drink, and some Netflix later today.

That poor poor baby. :( it breaks my heart.

I also am one who could not live without air conditioning. My airconditioner died about a month ago or so and I had to go a week without one before the guy could come install a new one and I was so dramatic about it the whole time. My house was at 86 every day and horribly humid and I would keep the windows covered and fans going but that's as cool as I could keep it. At night it would get down to like 58° when I would open the windows.

  • I could never live in a house without central heat and air. I understand in some parts of the country yall typically don't have it?? Like it just isn't the norm? I think I would die.

It would be a complete waste for us to have a/c. We definitely have heat, but no need for a/c even on the hottest day of the year. I don't know anyone who does around us either. A hot day is 80 and we very occasionally get to 90. I never have even used a fan in this house. It has been in the 70s all month. Today the high is 66 and low is 46. I couldn't handle the 100 degree temps you all are talking about! LO wears fleece PJs in a fleece swaddle all summer to keep her warm with a slightly open window.

@LaBelle0412‌ where do you live? That sounds like the perfect climate for me! What are winters like? I live in MN and our winters are brutal, but our summers get warmer than what you described. Most people here have AC.

  • We had AC installed last year. It is worth every penny of that 10k to not feel the 109 degree day here today.
  • It's going to be 92 degrees here today and we have no A/C. Our house will probably hit 86ish for the night.

Up in Skagit county, the high I'd going to be 82. Hot enough for me, thanks

No air conditioning here, either. I think that in western Washington, I know one person who has a/c. Eastern Washington is a different story.

On the Georgia man, they also say he went out to his car on his lunck break. When I first heard about the little boy dying, I was sad. Now I'm engaged. Maybe this makes me a bad person, but if H forgot about Harley in the car, or purposefully left her there, it wouldn't make a difference. I would never look at him the same. I wouldn't be able to stand beside him.
  • I can't handle the east coast humidity. I'm from the out west so 90-100s isn't too bad but mixing humidity in there makes me want to die. Thank god FIL has AC.
  • DS spent most of yesterday sleeping because he had his two month shots. I'm afraid of what that will mean for his sleep schedule today!

We live in the front range mountains of Colorado. Winters are windy being on the east side of the continental divide, but we get lots of sun. We get a decent amount of snow, but it usually melts quickly unless it is a big winter. We're skiers and love doing things outside even in the winter so we don't mind it and love getting snow. Lots of good jobs in the Denver/Boulder corridor too so it is the best compromise for us.

  • Ok... If I want to bleach the stains out of my prefolds can I put them in the sun dry or do they have to be wet for it to work?

  • I just wanted to say Hi to everyone...and to apologize for the probably long-forgotten emotional drama queen act I pulled a while ago. Being a new mom, working and figuring out hubster's anxiety completely kicked my ass but I've been able to pull through it with the help of some friends. I can't say I'll be super active on here but I miss you girls and hope you're all doing awesome!
Yay! Glad to hear it and glad to see you back here. Stay! :)

  • Short hair is the worst on me. Every time I see a picture of myself with hair shorter than shoulder length it makes me cringe. I think long hair is easier to deal with too. I have to style short hair but I can put my long hair in a pony or bun and it takes only a minute.

  • DH's best friend's mom got us an exersaucer, and it's still in the box in the basement.  I suppose I should look into putting it together. I have a feeling Aiden will love it - the boy can't get enough of standing in my lap already!

  • @PoppySeedWindsor‌ Welcome back! :) I was just going to ask about you today, but you beat me to it with your much-awaited return!

Hair above my shoulders would make me look extremely awkward and terrible. I have a long face with soft features. Huge no-no for me!

@allyandmike24‌ That is just too adorable! Sounds like a keeper. I wish my mom could find someone like that.

  • @poru Sorry, I wasn't meaning to suggest we should actually try that. I don't think it'd be very practical anyway. But as long as people remembered to check it, I think others would get the support they needed.

After a day of binge watching HGTV, there should be a drinking game for every time someone says they want an open floor plan. I'd be drunk in the first show.

    Because "it's great for entertaining".

I'm a Realtor and these comments actually do get said quite often. That and the classic joke that the whole closet in the master is for the wife "and where are his clothes going to go?". All. The. Time.
So popular. But how often are people really entertaining? Maybe I need more friends...

Now I'm curious. Any good stories from crazy clients?
  • I had a bowl cut for most of the 80s and early 90s so I have a hard time going back to short hair. I live in a pony tail.
  • Does anyone use trunks/board shorts on their DDs? I got a cute rash guard top, diaper cover bottom for the pool, but seems like that won't cover her enough since we can't use any sunblock/screen.

My family calls these the circle of neglect! Haha having said that we got one second hand and I just put it together yesterday. We will try it out in a few weeks I think.

Ugh... I'm having major anxiety about moving now. We have so much clutter! And even though the new place is technically bigger overall the living room and our bedroom are both going to be smaller. I seriously feel sick, worrying about how everything is going to fit :-(

  • I much prefer the old historic homes, or just older homes in general!

I love our house as a "first home" by it's new, modern, and has no history to it. Plus we love on top of our neighbors. I hate that!

My Grand Rapids ladies (I want to live in East Gr) by Reeds lakes. All those older homes are AMAZING!

We were just at Reeds lake a few nights ago and I was thinking the same thing! It is such a nice area.
  • We have a fairly open floor plan, but we have a 1920s farm house that has been added on to a few times. Our living room used to be a garage and then another garage was added on. I don't mind it, it's nowhere near as open as my parents house, which has no division between the kitchen/dining/living rooms.

My dad did speak German to us as children so I did learn but I haven't done anything in German since HS when I was the foreign language TA. But yes I curse in French and German fluently and often.
