The thing is I think it would take quite a bit of intelligence to "play" that dumb and I am not sure if that particular poster has that in her, but I suppose we will never know for sure :-?
You are absolutely right. I could imagine that user and if GC actually exists being very good friends...
My stomach is not happy tonight I did have some delicious hot chocolate with marshmallows, but it for sure didn't help my stomach. I'm gassy and cranky. I need it to be the weekend now! I'm sure I'll miss hundreds of posts tomorrow since I have training for work and won't be able to check in. I'll miss you all!
@irisheyez7 Kellymom.com is a great breast feeding resource and I learned most of what I know from there. I have also watched countless youtube videos showing proper latch and will again in preparation for this baby. I never took a class and was successful breastfeeding both kids until around 18 months old. One thing to remember is that while its natural, its still going to take work and those first few weeks are the hardest. Once you push through, its usually pretty easy.
I second this. It's probably good to watch a few You Tube videos to get some idea of what to do, but I definitely found the LC to be most helpful. It's nice to have someone there working with your exact boobs and your baby. I also found it was very helpful to have DH watch what the LC was saying because he could see whether DS was latched property a lot better than I could. I did zero prep going into it and was able to breastfeed DS very successfully until he was 1, which is when my supply tanked from getting KU.
Just know up front that it's going to be challenging and extremely painful. I felt like nobody really talked about how hard breastfeeding can be and it makes you really feel like a failure if it's not easy for you. My nipples were pretty sore until around week 3, at which point it became pretty much pain free. I highly recommend using Lansinoh nipple cream after every feeding. And the gel pads (several different brands) provide amazing relief for cracking/sore nipples.
I'm noticing that this is the time when most people are starting to take their glucola tests or whatever they're called. My next appointment is this Friday, and I'm 26 weeks today. Wouldn't they have mentioned the fact that they'd be testing me for that if they were planning to do it? Because they definitely did not. Am I supposed to schedule it on my own? Or do you think based on the urine samples they take at each appointment that they decide from that whether or not I even need one? I'm for sure calling tomorrow to check, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

I had mine around 25 weeks with DS1, but they hadn't mentioned anything before my 24 week appointment this time. When I went in, she asked if I had an hour to kill so that I could drink the potion and get the blood draw. I had to get back to work, so she said nbd and scheduled it for my 28 week instead. I would call and ask since you should have it done around now and maybe they could do it on Friday's appointment.

I knew I was going to have to take it but they never mentioned it until my 25 week appt. I'm pretty sure you will too. They usually don't test for it if you are low risk until around 28 weeks. They gave me the order and told me to go to the ACL lab sometime in the next 3 weeks to get it done. I probably wouldn't even call, I'm pretty sure they will go over it at your next appt. It wasn't really that big a deal, I'm just mad I failed the 1 hr and have to take the 3!
@fireflygirl12 I don't know if I'd want it done since my appointment isn't until 12:45. I don't think I could go that long without eating unless some offices/clinics don't require you to fast beforehand.
@irisheyez7 They schedule an appointment every 4 weeks, so I'd be 30 weeks by my next appointment. Maybe they would schedule me to do it then? But they might also have me to do it separately from my regular prenatal appointment since I don't know if they can do that kind of testing at the clinic. I probably won't call... I'm pretty sure they would've mentioned it at the last one, and if they plan to do it this time, then they don't have anyone to blame but themselves for not informing me of it last time.

Quick question for all the ST+Ms who EBF: how soon PP did you have your first real drink? Or should I reword that to multiple drinks at a time?
I had a dark beer a couple of times early on to help with my milk production (it really does help!), but my first foray into going out and having a couple was for my bday, 2 months after DS was born. I took my pump with me, and had to pump while we were out - but we'd gone to a scotch tasting early in the evening, after a bottle of sake at dinner, so I had to pump and dump in the parking lot of the club we were at. That was kinda awkward...lol My mom had him for the night, so I didn't have to worry about how much I drank while I was out since I wouldn't be nursing again for another 18 hours.
They say you're supposed to give a couple of hours for each drink you have before BFing, but I think it all depends on how quickly your body can metabolize the alcohol. They make test strips that you can get that will detect even low levels of alcohol in your breastmilk, so you can have peace of mind in knowing whether or not you're about to get your baby drunk. If you test positive, you just wait longer to feed, but if you absolutely need to pump right that second, you'll know if you can save or dump it.

I didn't have it done at my office. They gave me an order to go to an independent lab called ACL that I do all my blood draws at. I was also told not to fast for the 1 hour test . Not sure how your office handles these things though...

Hmmm.. Okay. Well, thanks for sharing your experience. And sorry you didn't pass the 1 hour.

You don't have to fast before the 1-hour test. My OB has a lab in their office, so for me it would be easier to do it all at the same time rather than going in for a separate appointment.
Ok oh wise Mamas of RTT...I have decided to give breastfeeding a shot. However, I am rather clueless about the process. The hospital we are delivering at offers a class but there is a fee and money is really tight right now. There will be a lactation consultant available at the hospital after baby is born to show me the ropes. So I guess my question is, should I spend the money on the class so I have more information on the basics or do you think having the lactation consultant available after birth will suffice? Do you think I can make do with either reading up on the subject or finding some videos online or do you think the class will be of vital importance?
Meh. It was nice to hear all the fun facts about how beneficial BFing is, and learning the different "holds" there are for nursing comfortably (there are more than you know! FYI the "football hold" works best for women with monstrosities for breasts, like mine); but TBH the LC at the hospital was more than helpful when it came time to actually "do it for real" instead of with a practice doll; she really helped put what I learned to practical use. While I think you could probably get by with just the LC, if you're one like me that likes to know every damn thing about every damn thing before you do it, the class may be somewhat beneficial.

After my 26 weeks they actually shifted me to every 2 weeks, so that may happen for you too....
@BiggerInRealLife, I read your comment on the Aug14 FFFC thread, and I just wanted to say that I think I'm in love with you. Holy crap that was awesome!
I am wide awake and alert right now--DH gave me a headrub during one of his foreign films, and I fell asleep for a good hour or two during the middle of it. This is after taking care of our health insurance emergency today for me. The man is a saint. I made pizza paninis and a can of tomato soup for dinner and he treated me like it was a five course French meal.
I was thinking about rewarding him in the sheets tonight as it was shower day, but he passed out as soon as we got to bed. Now I'm re-evaluating, and wondering if a cronut and some morning friskiness would be enough of a gesture?

Though I think she's somewhere around page 12 or 13. I was just on 15 so I copied the link from my address bar.
I think I was pg 14-ish. How the heck did you even find that? It's, like, long buried. And good riddance!
The OP got so much worse and showed a lot more of her true colors in another thread about SAH VS Working moms and I believe BIRL had a well worded response in that thread as well...
@BiggerInRealLife - That was a fucking AWESOME response! If anyone ever talked shit about my "science baby" niece and nephew I would legit punch them in the throat. I honestly feel sometimes like my sister deserves her children more than I do because they had to work so hard for them after two rounds of failed IVF. My parents weren't more excited over the super-planned IVF babies than our ahead-of-schedule-ooops baby. That girl is on crack.
Well, on the way home from being the DD to my boss and the president of the company I got pulled over by a cop. Fortunately it was just for a headlight being out and she didn't give me a ticket, but the drinkers in the car felt the need to make me even more embarrassed/ nervous by telling me how the cop was going to arrest me.
And now it's 2 am and I'm up with a terrible stomach ache and can't sleep.
@eireyes In case I missed it earlier, how are you feeling? Hope your sinus infection is clearing up, or that you're at least getting some rest.
@kcp913 thanks for asking! I'm ok for now - as you can prolly tell, I'm minimally bumping since my body/brain are exhausted. Unfortunately I think this infection is trying to take over my lungs too, since now I have a wicked ugly cough sometimes and I'm starting to notice the occasional wheezing (stupid asthma). I'm going to see what drugs I can get at my appointment tomorrow, or I'm going to be a hot mess this weekend.
I should really get ready for work now, I have a field visit today and we're carpooling so I actually have to be on time! Don't post too much, I'm already behind RTT as it is!

Check out babies r us. They offer free classes taught by nurses.
Mom to 10 year old DS and 7 year old DD. Twin girls coming soon!

At my hospital after birth a lactation consultant came into my room and taught me everything I needed to know. Didn't have to pay for it or take a class.
Good morning RTT! I just applied for that position I had posted about the other day and now my stomach is in knots. I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but I really never thought I'd be interviewing while 6 months pregnant. X_X

Is anyone else having trouble looking much past April? I've been asked to do concerts and stuff, and I say yes (earliest one is in June, totally fine) but, I can't get excited about them. The other half of the duo I'm in keeps wanting me to talk about projects later on and I really could careless. Its really not like me.

ETA: I can't spell this morning apparently!
It depends on the office. I had to fast for mine.
