I think gender reveal parties are dumb and AWish. You want to find a cute way to announce it, fine. But, an entire party dedicated to genitals? Trust, no one cares that much. Also, boudoir maternity sessions: you want pics of your body to commemorate this time in your life? Awesome. But for the love of all things holy, don't post your half naked pregnancy shots all over Facebook.
I feel the same way about gender reveal parties. Find something cute to do (if you want) and be done with it. A friend of mine did a gender reveal at her baby shower with the cake. Figure that was cute & everyone was already there for her shower.

My UO is that it makes me crazy when posters can't tell the difference between their UO and their FFFC. This is laziness. You can get it right. Seems like most people just don't care that there's a difference.
UO=opinion FFFC=confession
Examples:
FFFC: "Yesterday for lunch I ate sushi wrapped in cold lunch meat, topped with soft serve ice cream and sprinkled with unpasturized soft cheese and chopped up hot dog. Then I was in such a food coma that I chased it with an XL regular coffe with 17 turbo shots. I don't care! I do what I want! You don't know my lyyyyyfe"
Vs
UO: "I'm totally a judgy mcjudgerpants about anyone who eats any of the foods that are not recommended for pregnancy. Its like, omg, is of that hard? I totally know like 17 people who Contracted lysteria while pregnant. It's real. It happens. Say no to balogna!!"
See the difference? Ok, now quit doing it wrong. Or I will be that judgey mcjudgerpants from example 2.
FTR, neither of these examples are true for me. Also, this is not directed at anyone in particular.

I find the posts about birth plans and epidurals hysterical. We have 30+ weeks left and A LOT will change between now and then. I get the excitement, but it makes me laugh.
I wish technology wasn't so advanced that can/do find out we are *barely* pregnant just about the second it happens.
There are reasons many/most mc's happen in the first few weeks. And since we now have the ability to know just days after implantation, we are setting ourselves up for "knowing" about a loss as opposed to 15 years ago, when we just thought our period that cycle was "off".
I wish you couldn't find out you were pg until 8+ weeks.
My UO, I can not comprehend why women rush to the ER when they cramp or have spotting in the few first weeks of pregnancy.
what do they think the ER will do? they will call it a threatened M/C and tell you to f/u with an OB.
They think a sonogram will make it all better. The ER is for emergencies. Not spotting. I can't fathom this either unless it's gushing blood and severe cramping and the OB on call TELLS you to go.
I hate when obviously pregnant women smoke in general but even more so when they do it in public! It just seems so attention grabby, like when 12 year olds do it.. And IM a smoker, both times I've been PG I have quit on my own before 9 weeks. It's not that hard. Just don't do it. Or wait till you are home.. Just yuck.

FYI: This NOT a UO. No one here agrees with smoking while pregnant unless they are a moron.

I can't stand when people post pictures of their kids multiple times a day on Facebook and then also post a rant on FB defending themselves. I really need to hide some people in my timeline, but still- There's lots of crazies out there and you don't need to put your kids face in the public eye all the time.

Birth plans are stupid. Your only plan should be to get the baby out safely. How that happens shouldn't matter. Drugs, no drugs, c-section, vaginal, water birth, squatting, on your back, whatever. If you show up at the hospital with a 3 page birth plan in paragraph form, I assume you are a control freak who will crumble under the lack of control that parenting brings. Do your research so you know all the possibilities and then see what happens. Birth is your first realization that you have zero control over your child. You do the best you can and adjust to the situation as needed.
I hate when people assume all natural products are superior to man made. No, that mint leaf (or whatever) isn't going to protect your child from the burning rays of the sun and you're ridiculous for fearing the chemicals in sunscreen as opposed to fearing the melanoma that will happen from not using protection from the sun. Or no, that tea bag (again, or whatever) isn't going to cure that horrible eczema breakout your child has, they need medication. I'm all for natural remedies, but use common sense.
And now I will go eat a hotdog covered in unpasteurized blue cheese with listeria laden frozen yogurt all over it.

I totally agree. My "birth plan" was a copy of my living will. (Hey, you never know.)
I'm thrilled with the government shut down, (and I'm a military family). It's about time something is done. Bash away.....
You are aware that veteran disability and retirement will run out in a few weeks? Where does that leave all of the disabled veterans who depend on that money to survive? I don't understand why you would be "thrilled." It's a disaster, and if it isn't resolved soon, chaos will ensue.

By military family do you mean someone who will only have a delayed paycheck? Because my husband is National Guard and a federal technician. So he is out of work, with no paycheck, and no likelihood of seeing that money again-unemployment doesn't start for two weeks. He was also included in the furlough this summer. So this makes 9 days without pay this year (so far, who knows how long he'll be out). If you are so thrilled, can you send all your extra money to us? We could really use it. Thanks.

There......I.Said.It.
Have you ever struggled with fertility? Because this is kind of shitty when there are women who struggle to stay pregnant due to low progesterone and now, because of the technology we have that allows for early pregnancy detection, they are able to supplement and stay pregnant rather then have miscarriage after miscarriage. Or do genetic testing to see if there is an issue on the genetic level that is causing recurrent miscarriage. I feel like you're basically wishing recurrent miscarriages/infertility/no children on a large group of women because you like the idea of not having to face an early miscarriage.
In a similar vein to @czarmom, my UO is that it really annoys me when people automatically assume that "natural" or "organic" things are automatically better than non-organic or even GM crops. Do your research. (And by research, actual peer-review scientific papers, or at least articles written by people who have graduate degrees in agricultural science, not the yuppy mom next door that writes an organic blog). Yes, some things are better organic. Others are not.
Organic apples, for example, have about 10x the amount of pesticide on them as non-organic apples. How is that possible, you ask? The "organic" designation allows pesticides derived from natural sources. So chemists distill the exact same chemical compound from naturally-derived sources to match the standard pesticide. The only problem is, the formula derived naturally isn't as "pure" as the (non-organic) one derived in the lab. Therefore, farmers must use a great deal more of the "organic" pesticide than the chemically-identical one that comes from a lab.
I'm thrilled with the government shut down, (and I'm a military family). It's about time something is done. Bash away.....
Did you really just go here?? You know how insensitive this is, right? Why don't you explain to the rest of us, why this shutdown will make a difference??? :-O

I know it's an unpopular opinion- thus the reason it's here. I think Obamacare is a joke-- and I'm not a flaming republican.. Obamacare has SOME good things in it-- but the majority of it is so ridiculous it's painful. The things it will do to our Healthcare-- I hope nobody in your family ever has a serious medical concern. I've done my research- have you? Do you know what it will do to medical research?

I was against it at first too. But now I need it because it's the only thing that will cover pregnancy for me. I have PCOS and they classify that as a pre-existing, so I have been unable to get a private policy. So in that aspect, I want the insurance. Does it address all the problems? Definitely not. It does nothing to bring the cost of healthcare services down.

What about the women who rely on WIC to purchase formula and are scrambling to figure out what they're going to do at the end of the week when places stop taking their checks?
Chellbell20 I hate it for you, I really do. But what i hate worse is the way that the research to save my nephews life will be effected. Sorry, but my nephews rare form of aggressive brain tumor is more important to me.
I hate pink sports clothing for girls/women. If LO is a girl, she can rock her red Cardinal shirts just like her momma. If she's bald, I'll just put a red headband on her.
Seriously, it's dumb. Unless your team's color IS pink, be true to them and wear their actual colors please.
The ONLY exception is when said teams are supporting breast cancer awareness.
It was my assumption that Food Stamps (SNAP) and WIC would not be effected by the gov. shutdown.
Correct me if I am wrong.
That's what they are saying at first, but from what I've heard/read, since the programs are losing their government assistance, they're only funded through the end of the week or something like that.

I am so confused...... Your nephew's cancer research will be halted because of the shutdown, but you are thrilled about it??

FFS, you're a moron! My husband and I are disabled vets, right now this is our only means of income, as well as the GI Bill. I also used to work at a law firm that helped vets get their disability and nearly all WWII and Vietnam vets rely on disability to survive.
