Re: Ultrasound Thread

  • Ugh y’all are making me so excited! We go in on Monday for ours, we will be 6w3days then. IVF transfer so they check us more frequently.

Question: How has the baby measured vs what you thought you were at? I’m curious if it’s just a few days off or if it could be a full week?

  • I had a SCH with my first!! Literally no big deal. My doctor described it as a “bubble in her wallpaper”. Essentially a pocket of blood gets trapped between the baby’s sac and the wall of your uterus. That’s it! And only so much blood can be reabsorbed so where does it go? OUT! I only bled for maybe a week? Or 2? It was light spotting and looked like old blood. Always unsettling but she was totally fine in there! She turns 4 in 2 weeks 🤗

if we all had to sign up for something “scary” we would choose a SCH!! So rest easy! It’s benign and it means extra scans of your baby 😍😍😍😍 that was my favorite part.

  • @Knottie82236757 Yes, I've had one with both this pregnancy and my first pregnancy. Super common and harmless so long as it isn't big. You may have some spotting/light bleeding from it if you haven't already, and that's okay.

    Hey ladies :)

I’m due 10-28-22 with my 4th little one. I’m 41 years old. Crazy, right. This little one was a huge surprise and a souvenir from our recent trip to Washington state. If all goes well, I’ll be induced on my 42 birthday. What a gift!!!!

Yesterday I had an early ultrasound. I measured at 5 weeks and 3 days, which isn’t far off from my LMP which would have me at 5 weeks and 5 days. Anyways, I’ve never had an ultrasound done this early. They saw a yolk sac but no fetal pole. They assured me that this normal and I would likely see baby and heart beat next week but I’m worried. I’m terrified of a blighted ovum. I didn’t even know this existed until I was reading a few days ago and came across an article about it.

Anyway, has anyone ever had an US in the 5 weeks range that didn’t show a fetal pole to later go back and see a fetal pole and heartbeat?

I repeat the US next Wednesday and I’m so scared there won’t be anything there.

Thank you both for the reassurance! The doctor said it was very small (barely 1cm) and will most likely resolve itself. I have not had any bleeding so that is a plus!

  • @Abbepflum welcome to the board! You’re not the only AMA momma on here. We’ll have to start an AMA check-in thread soon!

I think there are at least one or two other ladies on here who’ve done US in the 5 week range due to IUI/IVF, previous loss and my recollection is the US in that range showed yolk sack but the following one showed the little nuggets with fetal pole, heartbeat.

@Abbepflum hi there, I had an US at 5w4d and could barely see fetal pole. Next US a week later everything was clear with HB. I’m not a medical professional but that was my experience!

  • We didn’t have time for one at my first prenatal yesterday and so I scheduled for next Friday, the 11th. Also couldn’t find a heartbeat/electrical impulse sound yesterday but at 9 weeks and change (I’m counting from conception not beginning of LP bc we know with certainty) I wasn’t expecting it.

I’m excited because my husband gets to go with me! He couldn’t come physically to the appointment, so we FaceTimed instead.

  • Hi second time mama here.
I had an early ultrasound today in hopes of figuring out due date. The OB’s guess was that I was between 5-6 weeks. I ovulated late and that’s complicating things. My gestational sac measured at 9.9 mm which comes out to 5w+3 but no yolk sac was present. I was heartbroken. Has anybody else experienced this?

My OB wasn’t too concerned and I have another ultrasound next Thursday.
  • @swmama27 that’s totally normal! I had an ultrasound at 5.5 weeks, and they couldn’t see anything except the gestational sac. Went back at 7.5 weeks, and baby was right on track with a heartbeat!

  • Ok. Ultrasound at 7w4d. So I know the circled blob is baby. What’s the other blob next to? Heart beat is good. 8 wks today.

  • The “blob” is the yolk sac.

  • When I scheduled my 8 week ultrasound they gave me a working hours nurses line. Maybe you could see if your provider has one, and you could contact them with some Qs before your appointment?

  • Hello everyone, I just found out yesterday! This is my first & I’m nervous..excited.. overwhelmed with emotions! According to my apps, I’m due 10/27 and I’m 6wks1day. Seeing my primary on Tuesday to do blood test to confirm. Still don’t have an obgyn yet. But does anyone work night shifts here and has had healthy pregnancy? Curious to know as I’ve read it can mess up baby’s circadian rhythm?

  • My OB doesn't do the 1st ultrasound until 9 wks either. It's hard waiting, but sometimes there isn't a heart beat yet at 6-7wks. At least we can expect a heartbeat by then for sure and look forward to a better picture that looks more like an embryo baby rather than just a dot.

  • @Knottie1467264869 I work night shift and did it through my last pregnancy without any issues other than being tired all the time.

  • I found out last week they now only do one ultrasound at 20 weeks where i am from. If you want anymore you have to pay it's not covered under medical anymore. I was lucky enough to get a referral for one at 10 weeks so I go in 2 days! Super excited I don't have to wait so long!

Hi! New here… due 10/26. I had my first ultrasound at 6w2d. Baby was measuring 6 weeks, sac 6w1d, and heart rate was 111bpm. How does this look? After a previous miscarriage I am so nervous!
    allycat0209
  • @kkerner29 sounds perfect! It's totally understandable to feel nervous after a loss though.

    @merostomata Thank you!

  • @kkerner29 that was my little one’s exact heart rate at 6w2d, and my OB said she couldn’t have asked for better numbers at that stage.

  • This was at 4 weeks 1 day for viability. but i go in this saturday (3/12) for my 8 week US and to see if it’s twins! Twins run in my husbands family and i of course would love two babies just as much as one but we are hoping for just one.

  • @knottiea6b49d923e0682aa having twins for the most part is only affected by if it runs on the maternal side bc all that it is typically is over ovulation (releasing two eggs) thus explaining why most twins that are conceived spontaneously are fraternal. There are cases where it happens when there isn’t a typical genetic factor or it skips several generations. My twins are identical, and it was just God bc it runs many generations back for me and none of my cousins or closer relatives have twins. They are 4 now and such a joy/mess lol

Hi, everyone. I'm new to The Bump (long-time lurker) and made my intro post earlier today.

At the risk of sounding completely moronic - I have some very clear ultrasound images from my pregnancy I would like to post, including a nice screenshot from a 4D/dynamic ultrasound I got done yesterday at 9 weeks 2 days, but I can't figure out how to attach my images  to my reply. Yikes.

Any advice would be appreciated. I searched the other boards and couldn't find much about tech support, but feel free to redirect me and I'll delete this message if it's not appropriate to post here.

Sorry - still new to the community and was expecting an "attach/upload image" button somewhere.
