I had a SCH with my first!! Literally no big deal. My doctor described it as a “bubble in her wallpaper”. Essentially a pocket of blood gets trapped between the baby’s sac and the wall of your uterus. That’s it! And only so much blood can be reabsorbed so where does it go? OUT! I only bled for maybe a week? Or 2? It was light spotting and looked like old blood. Always unsettling but she was totally fine in there! She turns 4 in 2 weeks 🤗
if we all had to sign up for something “scary” we would choose a SCH!! So rest easy! It’s benign and it means extra scans of your baby 😍😍😍😍 that was my favorite part.
@Knottie82236757 Yes, I've had one with both this pregnancy and my first pregnancy. Super common and harmless so long as it isn't big. You may have some spotting/light bleeding from it if you haven't already, and that's okay.
@allycatspike1 I had my first US at 6 weeks 3 days and the baby measured 5 weeks 6 days. I did IUI with a trigger shot so we are pretty clear on dates. The sonographer said that was within the range and that everything looked perfect. She said that even if we know the conception date you don’t really know when it implants! Based on the result posted to my portal it looks like 4 days either way was the range they wanted.
I’m due 10-28-22 with my 4th little one. I’m 41 years old. Crazy, right. This little one was a huge surprise and a souvenir from our recent trip to Washington state. If all goes well, I’ll be induced on my 42 birthday. What a gift!!!!
Yesterday I had an early ultrasound. I measured at 5 weeks and 3 days, which isn’t far off from my LMP which would have me at 5 weeks and 5 days. Anyways, I’ve never had an ultrasound done this early. They saw a yolk sac but no fetal pole. They assured me that this normal and I would likely see baby and heart beat next week but I’m worried. I’m terrified of a blighted ovum. I didn’t even know this existed until I was reading a few days ago and came across an article about it.
Anyway, has anyone ever had an US in the 5 weeks range that didn’t show a fetal pole to later go back and see a fetal pole and heartbeat?
I repeat the US next Wednesday and I’m so scared there won’t be anything there.
@krthouse and @mckenzc Thank you both for the reassurance! The doctor said it was very small (barely 1cm) and will most likely resolve itself. I have not had any bleeding so that is a plus!
@Abbepflum welcome to the board! You’re not the only AMA momma on here. We’ll have to start an AMA check-in thread soon!
I think there are at least one or two other ladies on here who’ve done US in the 5 week range due to IUI/IVF, previous loss and my recollection is the US in that range showed yolk sack but the following one showed the little nuggets with fetal pole, heartbeat.
@Abbepflum hi there, I had an US at 5w4d and could barely see fetal pole. Next US a week later everything was clear with HB. I’m not a medical professional but that was my experience!
We didn’t have time for one at my first prenatal yesterday and so I scheduled for next Friday, the 11th. Also couldn’t find a heartbeat/electrical impulse sound yesterday but at 9 weeks and change (I’m counting from conception not beginning of LP bc we know with certainty) I wasn’t expecting it.
I’m excited because my husband gets to go with me! He couldn’t come physically to the appointment, so we FaceTimed instead.
Had my first US today and it went great!! Baby is measuring a few days ahead at 8w3d but the doctor said she’ll keep my due date in line with the date of my last period 7w6d/October 14. Heartbeat is 171. So relieved to know that things are going well so far!
Hi second time mama here. I had an early ultrasound today in hopes of figuring out due date. The OB’s guess was that I was between 5-6 weeks. I ovulated late and that’s complicating things. My gestational sac measured at 9.9 mm which comes out to 5w+3 but no yolk sac was present. I was heartbroken. Has anybody else experienced this?
My OB wasn’t too concerned and I have another ultrasound next Thursday.
@swmama27 that’s totally normal! I had an ultrasound at 5.5 weeks, and they couldn’t see anything except the gestational sac. Went back at 7.5 weeks, and baby was right on track with a heartbeat!
Here is our little bean! Went for US on Feb 22 measuring 7weeks 2 days. Was a little behind I thought I was 7weeks 6 days but doctor said that’s normal and everything looked great! New due date is October 9 I didn’t get to hear the heart beat but I saw the flutter!! I have my first appointment with my OB March 28 and I’ll get another US then. Can’t wait!!
When I scheduled my 8 week ultrasound they gave me a working hours nurses line. Maybe you could see if your provider has one, and you could contact them with some Qs before your appointment?
Hello everyone, I just found out yesterday! This is my first & I’m nervous..excited.. overwhelmed with emotions! According to my apps, I’m due 10/27 and I’m 6wks1day. Seeing my primary on Tuesday to do blood test to confirm. Still don’t have an obgyn yet. But does anyone work night shifts here and has had healthy pregnancy? Curious to know as I’ve read it can mess up baby’s circadian rhythm?
My OB doesn't do the 1st ultrasound until 9 wks either. It's hard waiting, but sometimes there isn't a heart beat yet at 6-7wks. At least we can expect a heartbeat by then for sure and look forward to a better picture that looks more like an embryo baby rather than just a dot.
@Knottie1467264869 I work night shift and did it through my last pregnancy without any issues other than being tired all the time.

I had my first ultrasound yesterday!!! They were having a hard time finding baby but then I found out during it I have a tilted uterus so they had to use the vaginal prob instead and right away there way baby! I got to see the heartbeat in the ultrasound and baby was kicking it’s legs and moving it’s little arms like crazy so that made me feel so good! I also found out I’m further than I expected I thought I was going to go in a find out I was way behind but nope I measured at 9 weeks 6 days. So today I hit my 10 weeks my due date is 10/1 ❤️🥰
I found out last week they now only do one ultrasound at 20 weeks where i am from. If you want anymore you have to pay it's not covered under medical anymore. I was lucky enough to get a referral for one at 10 weeks so I go in 2 days! Super excited I don't have to wait so long!
I finally made it to the first ultrasound! That wait felt like forever, but it was so worth it. Hearing the baby's heart beat was the best experience I've ever had. Everything looks great! Measuring at 8wk1d with a heart rate of 160 something 🤷♀️ my MIL said we're about to embark on the best part of life and I totally feel that!
6w3d! IVF journey and long time unexplained infertility and I’m just so happy to hear his little heartbeat! Praying we get past the next couple of weeks but all is looking good for our little man!
Beautiful baby beans everyone! I’ve had 2 early ultrasounds (was still working with fertility clinic so they do more/earlier ultrasounds). The top pic is 6w4d, hb 135, and the bottom pic is 7w3d, hb 145. It was so cool to see that little flicker of a hb, I can’t wait til my NT scan! I’m 8w3d today.
Hi! New here… due 10/26. I had my first ultrasound at 6w2d. Baby was measuring 6 weeks, sac 6w1d, and heart rate was 111bpm. How does this look? After a previous miscarriage I am so nervous!
I had my last RE appointment this morning at 8w6d - baby looks great and HB was 180 ❤️ I could even see the arms and legs this time 🥰 I am still in shock that I’m transferring to my OBGYN. Two more days of weaning off my IVF meds 🙌
Thank you again to all the supportive people in this community. It’s been really helpful to me.
We have eyes on the jellybean!! 9w1d yesterday with heart rate of 188. I cried immediately when I heard the heartbeat. Worth every bit of the pregnancy symptoms!!
Hello! I had my first ultrasound at 7 weeks because I mentioned that I was spotting for 2 weeks straight. It wasn’t very much and was noticeable when I wiped. My doctor told me I have a subchorionic hemorrhage 3mm in size. The fetus measured on track with a heart beat of 144. She told me not to worry about it and allowed me to continue my exercise routine daily. Fast forward 2 weeks, I saw a bigger spot of blood so they ordered an ultrasound at 9 weeks 1 day. Everything is still looking normal and baby is measuring right on track. The spotting has completely gone away now and the doctor didn’t mention that the SCH has grown. I am attaching the ultrasound photo. I was very worried about my SCH but as long as it isn’t big, I wouldn’t worry too much.
This was 5 weeks 6 days (though I was a few days farther, but I ovulate late so not super surprised) - due date 10/6. Heartbeat at that time was strong at 118 (doctor said very strong for that gestational age). Next appointment tomorrow, hoping to hear that precious thump thump again. ❤️
Next ultrasound scheduled for the 25th and I'm so looking forward to baby actually looking like a baby at that one. I'm hoping that will help me feel more connected, because as much as I love the little circle in my first ultrasound it definitely didn't help this feel real yet.
This was at 4 weeks 1 day for viability. but i go in this saturday (3/12) for my 8 week US and to see if it’s twins! Twins run in my husbands family and i of course would love two babies just as much as one but we are hoping for just one.
Hi! Very new to this but I’m due Oct 21st and I thought I was much further along than they measured me.. I moved from AZ to SC and apparently the stress made me skip a period🤪 but now I have an exact date. Only problem is, my uterus is shaped differently so I have been going to a specialist until I hit 10-12 weeks 🙏🏻 Baby is in the uterus but on the right side. Praying for this miracle baby to grow into the middle like they hope. Every day is filled with “what ifs” but I’m taking it one second, minute, hour, day at a time! Xoxo
@knottiea6b49d923e0682aa having twins for the most part is only affected by if it runs on the maternal side bc all that it is typically is over ovulation (releasing two eggs) thus explaining why most twins that are conceived spontaneously are fraternal. There are cases where it happens when there isn’t a typical genetic factor or it skips several generations. My twins are identical, and it was just God bc it runs many generations back for me and none of my cousins or closer relatives have twins. They are 4 now and such a joy/mess lol
Hi, everyone. I'm new to The Bump (long-time lurker) and made my intro post earlier today.
At the risk of sounding completely moronic - I have some very clear ultrasound images from my pregnancy I would like to post, including a nice screenshot from a 4D/dynamic ultrasound I got done yesterday at 9 weeks 2 days, but I can't figure out how to attach my images  to my reply. Yikes.
Any advice would be appreciated. I searched the other boards and couldn't find much about tech support, but feel free to redirect me and I'll delete this message if it's not appropriate to post here.
Sorry - still new to the community and was expecting an "attach/upload image" button somewhere.
