@minnie_yoga_mama I don't know the answer to your question, but I also have a lot of muscle twitching randomly, but mine are mostly in my inner thighs and sometimes my stomach muscles. I just assume pregnancy is weird and *shrug*
@minnie_yoga_mama muscle twitches in general are more common in pregnancy due to increased blood volume, etc. I don't think it's related to milk production or anything, though.
@minnie_yoga_mama There isn’t really anything related to milk production or growing breasts that twitches like that— it’s most likely due to muscle fibers twitching from dehydration or vitamin deficiencies of some kind or another which is common in pregnancy. The parts of your breast that grow for milk production are ducts and glands, which don’t have the ability to twitch like muscles do.
@winterviolethope I have 3 years between DS6 and DS3 and we have almost never needed a stroller. We aren't in the city so no walks and for zoos/museums/etc DS3 just wants to walk like brother. We had a double stroller and busted it out when DS3 was 2 months ish for the fair, but mostly to hold all the shit we needed to survive a day-i wore him lol.
@SmashJam haha thanks! I have 3 years 3 months between my first two boys and I remember my 3 year old being on the cusp of not needing it … but wasn’t sure with my younger being 2 years 9 months if it would be more worth it. We already have a ride on board and moved to the burbs so im sure we can get away without one now. we just rent a double when we do Disney or something.

I asked this on the weekly update board but figured I’d post it here: Anyone ever had a sibling attend a birth? I’m planning to have DD6 come and want to start preparing her. We’ve gone over the anatomy and physiology of the birth process quite a few times (I’m a NICU/nursery RN so I talk about it a lot and it’s pretty normalized in our house), but I’m wondering if anyone has recommendations on good videos or books we can do together.
@aloha_mama not me but one thing that’s important is having a plan B. In my last BMB one of the mamas wanted 5 year old sister there and she did everything ‘right’. Talked about it, watched videos, everything. But when it came to it seeing mom in that much pain freaked her out so mama was left alone for a number of hours while dad had to drive the 5 year old away and to a friends house. While I don’t want to discourage you at all, I just want you to have a plan B in case your daughter gets too nervous in the moment.
@kiwi2628 Trust me, I’ve seen enough horrible deliveries to last me a lifetime! Anything that can go wrong, I’ve been there. So I definitely don’t want her to witness anything that would scare her. One of my main worries is that we will be in a brand new area where I will not know anyone enough to trust them to watch her for however long labor, delivery, and recovery ends up taking. I have a lot of anxiety thinking of leaving her with someone we barely know. I don’t even know if we will have the option of a Plan B. On top of that, I think her maturity level is at a point where she could handle it, and I think having her with me will help me as well as helping her transition into her new role as big sister.
@aloha_mama I have not but I’m giving DD6 the choice this time around. So far she wants to stay with me so I will be looking for resources as well! I’ll post any good ones I come across.
@aloha_mama I don’t have any advice as I have a 5 year old boy who I don’t want anywhere near the birthing process haha… but curious- is your hospital allowing extra people? I was worried my kids/ my mom wouldn’t be allowed to visit because of covid … just curious what other people are hearing re: their hospitals
Me: 36 DH: 36 Married: October 2011 DS: January 2016 DS: May 2019 #3: April 2022
@winterviolethope our hospital only allows the spouse/significant other + a registered doula (can't just be someone you've said is a doula, they have to be certified and in the hospital's system). We'll see if that changes by April. (And everyone has to have proof of vaccination.)
@winterviolethope Currently my hospital is only allowing 1 support person with you during/after labor and birth, but they also say it’s subject to change.
Has anyone started drinking red raspberry leaf tea yet? I love drinking tea and want to start soon, but I’ve heard a wide range of when it’s recommended to begin!
@minnie_yoga_mama usually not recommended to start until 34 weeks? I think? But don’t get so excited, personally I find RRL tea gross. I had to force it down first pregnancy and didn’t even bother last time lol
@winterviolethope I’m planning to deliver at a birth center and they are allowing two support persons. The last I spoke with them, they said as long as DD6 was vaccinated she was fine to come!
@minnie_yoga_mama I can’t drink RRL tea because of my history of preterm delivery but I have heard great things about it! But the general consensus is not to drink it until 32 weeks.
@aloha_mama so great! I wish my boys could come. Maybe things will change by then but I doubt it. My 5 year old is fully vaxxed so maybe there is hope for him. I’m going to try to get discharged after my 2nd night (c section so I think 2 nights is the min) and have to boys wait for us at home for her arrival.

I love it, so I drink it. It's the only thing that helps with the terrible taste in my mouth this pregnancy. It doesn't really matter one way or another until closer to term, and then you should be doing like 3-4 cups/day to get any benefit. I just drink one cup in the morning now or as the taste comes back.
@minnie_yoga_mama like what doxie said, you have to drink 3-4 strongly brewed cups per day (most herbal remedies you put the herbs in cold water, bring to a simmer, remove from heat and let steep for ~20 minutes before straining). You can drink a cup or so a day (although if you had any concerns/history/risks for preterm labour, I'd avoid it), and it's really great in a blend. I like to make a blend with RRL, nettle, alfalfa, lemon balm and mint that's great for pregnancy
Anyone else finding their personal frustration fuse super duper short these days? I usually pride myself on being tolerant and allowing mistakes without judgement and listening and trying to figure out things. But now I'm just like internally reminding myself that I can't wish everyone to die in a fire for being slow or having their own motivations to not just do what I want. Like I need a better stress relief.
@rbflei hard to know because I am not patient really ever. What I miss most about NYC is the efficiency of everything and everyone lol (or at least the collective outrage over any inefficiency)
@doxiemoxie212 I live in Texas. No one cares about how efficient anything this they only care about how someone "feels" about doing it. It makes me insane.
@rbflei Yes!! I was literally just telling my mom this the other day! I feel like everything is frustrating right now! I’m trying to find time to meditate a little more to separate and put into perspective, but dang when those feelings come they are strong!!
@rbflei yes, 100%. I’ve been finding long walks when I can get them in help a lot with clearing my head. I put on a good podcast and let my mind settle
@rbflei my patience is not my greatest attribute on a good day, but pregnancy makes it even more of a challenge. I do this thing where my eyes get big and I fake smile really big and raise my eyebrows and they all kinda know that I'm about at the end of my rope 😬
Anyone else experience this? Had my anatomy scan yesterday (have to wait until next week at my prenatal appt to review results with my practitioner). Baby is measuring fine overall according to the ultrasound tech but in looking at the report, her head is measuring small while her tummy/arms/legs are all much bigger.
Estimated fetal weight is 97th percentile Abominal circumference is 57th percentile

Does anyone have the Hatch sound machine and can give me an opinion?
We have always used the $20 Homedics one from Amazon, but one of ours just died so I am trying to figure out why the hatch is $100+ and whether it’s worth it.
@Ivorytower2 hatch is way better sound quality, I have like 5 between our house and my mom's, but get the cheapest original version because that one connects via blutetooth instead of via wifi, and the reason that matters is because Hatch only accepts certain characters as wifi passwords? But a lot of internet providers require those characters be used to qualify as a secure password. Sooooo lol but yeah, great customer service, if it ever dies they'll just send you a new one (same for the charger or anything). Love it, couldn't live without it.
ETA: the cheaper one is like $50 and you can get 20% off from BBB
We also have the hatch and really like it! I have it on a schedule so it plays white noise at bedtime and is a nightlight. Turns red overnight and turns green when he’s allowed to get up. He semi ignores the lights but sometimes I’ll send back to bed saying your clock is still red. I’m planning on getting another for this baby’s room too.
I think biggest complaint is it’s not super portable like the home medics one was. I liked that I could just grab that one with batteries already in it and take it with us.
Okey Dokey-here's some context to the question: in 4 pregnancies I've never experienced the level of pain I am currently in at 20 weeks. I used to walk just under a mile on the trails near our house with DS6 and my dogs until the day I gave birth to DS3 (5 days overdue). Walking has never been an issue in pregnancy, even for long periods of time. I've either been a SAHM who was always on her feet, or a teacher who was always on her feet. Anyway, this time, with supportive shoes that contain orthopedic inserts, I have pain so bad below my bump I find myself unable to lift my feet to walk, particularly my right foot. Its excruciating. I spent extra time on my feet today standing outside but man- I can't even lift my legs onto the couchI had to get my H to do it for me because I can't use those muscles. If I use the muscles to sit up, it doesn't hurt.
My question: is this something a support belt will help with? Or have I like, tweaked a muscle from walking up and down stairs and doing to much lifting (I'm not lifting anything crazy, just bags of groceries and stacks of a like, 10 workbooks. And maybe a three year old.)? I have a docs appt tomorrow so I can ask her also, but wanted to know what others have felt. THe pain is midway between my hip bones, about halfway between my bump and my pubic bone.
@SmashJam it might be SPD. SPD causes pain on separation on the legs, so doing things like lifting your legs to put on pants or going up stairs, or even the separation of your legs when you roll over in bed can cause it. And it hurts in your pubis to to the of your pelvic girdle. Does that sound like this?
@SmashJam sounds like symphysis pubis dysfunction (SPD) or sacroilliac joint dysfunction (SJD). That's what I struggle with. A support belt can sort of help, but you also probably need to get an adjustment and learn some exercises to pop things back into place (it's not actually very aggressive, it's basically like squeezing your knees together around something kind of the width of a fist while doing certain motions with your hips). Webster certified chiropractor or osteopath who does osteopathic manual manipulation can do that and many take insurance.
@kiwi2628 yes those are all the things I struggle with!! I always thought of SPD as hip related too and I don't really have pain there so didn't think about it! @doxiemoxie212 thanks for those suggestions I will check with the doc today and see if they can recommend anyone. I guess I now relate with all this pain you've been talking about-its pretty awful by the end of the day!
