I really want to buy some new stuff but can't justify it yet. I'm hoping (without much reason) that my mom gives me some money and tells me to spend it on baby girl. I can't do any room set-up yet because we have to do a furniture shuffle that involves my parents and they're in Florida until late April.
DD #1: April 2017 DD #2: May 2020 Baby #3: EDD May 2023; MC October 2022
I started washing and organizing clothes a couple weeks ago and pulling out things from DD1. As you all know I am slightly addicted to shopping, but this is the closet with newborn-3 month and then just a few new 6m+ items and a handful of stuff for DD1 that she hasn’t grown into yet. But also DD1 was a September baby so half of this will probably end up being the wrong season to actually use.
Today was the first time someone randomly asked me about the baby because of my bump. It definitely makes it feel more real now that other people can tell.
@rox7777 but maybe just one more trip to see if they have any of those size organizer separating signs to hang? lol!! I'm envious.
I'm feeling better about the few onsies i bought now after hearing (and seeing) from a few of you. I also went through all of my boy clothes and separated anything out I could pass off as girl clothing. This baby girl better like monster and dinosaur jammies
I also started washing baby clothes that were handed down to me from family & friends. The dresser in my guest room is now COMPLETELY full of baby clothes. There's actually no room for all the burp clothes/blankets I also received. Most of the clothes are actually 9mo+ so I have an excuse to buy more clothes but I'm waiting for the shower.
@mamaqdubu After two boys, I can’t resist the baby girl stuff. It’s so tiny and cute, though I did stick to mostly sleepers and onesies.
Not gonna lie, I’m mostly done. We didn’t go heavy on baby gear since she’s the last and I’m pretty minimalist. The nursery is done. I realistically have 10 weeks left, but so much crap crammed into the next few weeks. Birthdays, appointments for me and DS1, MH is getting his wisdom teeth out, two week long school breaks. Ugh. I’m tired just thinking about it.
Oh man I thought I went a little crazy at Carter’s lol it was the first time I bought her clothes! I figured since my dresser will be here Saturday I should get stuff to fill it 🤷🏻♀️
Also I wanted things that didn’t say “mommy’s have a bad day call 911-grandma” thanks to my MIL 😐 I think that outfit ended up in a donate pile somewhere 🤔
I bought a couple little things for him this weekend, since DS1 was a winter baby 6 years ago, I am thinking we are just going to have get pretty much all new, which I was trying to avoid but my moms basement where a lot of the stuff was stored flooded so I am not sure how much is good anyways.
I went to Target to pick up my Baby Registry welcome bag today and they didn't have any because they had been recalled. I googled but can't find anything recent on why.
@jrouge12 that's really odd... it's just samples and coupons, you'd think they could just remove the one bad item. It makes me wonder if there's something I should remove from mine now.
@jrouge12 uh oh, I wonder why it got recalled. Like @pirateduck said, it’s mostly samples. I was planning on using the samples in case of an emergency and I ran out of something, but now I’m really curious.
I don’t think that I’ll have to worry too much about annoying baby clothes from my in-law, my mom on the other hand... She is getting custom T-shirts made for the entire family. I really don’t care. I thought it was a nice gesture but she’s all about them. She keeps making comments that “we’ll all wear them in the hospital” “we can take family pictures and you can put them in the nursery”. Yea, that’s not going to happen. She just sent me the final template for the shirts. I just said “I like it” and she responded with “YOU DON’T LOVE IT?!” I just really don’t care, it’s nice 🤷🏾♀️ She’s also made comments about making custom onesies, so we’ll see...
Everyone in the family will have their own saying. Like I’m going to be an aunt, papa, grandma, great grandma, etc.
Me: 33 DH: 32 Married 7/18/15 1st born at 35+4 on 6/6/16 Team green turned BLUE! 2nd born at 38+6 on 8/30/18 Team green turned PINK! Due with #3 on 6/6/20 Team Green
@catem07 Group shirts at the hospital aren’t going to happen because I don’t want many people visiting at the hospital. My hospital has a 2 visitor at a time policy and I just want it to be immediate family (parents and grandparents) AFTER baby is born. My mother knows this but she still has this idea in her head that everyone will be there 🙄
@babyfoxden10 we had that shirt from MIL in a terrible orang , sadly when it came for her to fit that size the trash became the owner. There's a bunch of stuff MIL bought that I never put on dd that ended up in totes that will find their way to the trash this go around. I hate onesies with dumb things written on them.
I'm trying not to buy anything until after baby is here being team green it's easier because I don't know what I would buy in and we already have plenty gender neutral clothes to get us to 3 months. Over February break we'll head to our house in NY where all our newborn - 3 month clothes are and I'll bring those back clean them, sort them from girly stuff and what sizes we need. I did purchase two (used) diapers today that will match the prints of two of the newborn diapers I already have (can't find these prints new anywhere) so I can take cute pictures of dd and new baby matching 😍 both prints are girly so if I have a boy hopefully he can rock a light aqua and some pretty floral patterns.
Not shopping is also easy because my closest target that I know of is at least 2 hours away. Our closest Walmart is 1.5 hours away. I'm really good at filling up an online cart and not purchasing it but "walking" away and forgetting about it.
@drkoyya I didn't tell people I was in labor or the hospital until DD was born. Most people found out she was born a few days after actual delivery. I flat out lied when people contacted me. I would have snuck to the hospital with out my parents knowing but they live so close I was found out...
@emlettuce pink eye stinks! I had it a while back thanks to a certain toddler and I did the whole eye patch thing while using the antibiotic drops. It was quite the experience I never want to repeat.
So many of yall are talking about buying things for little one... I just cant do it, though i want to. I feel like since we are having another boy and our first is only 2, we still have so many clothes (most of which are hand me downs from cousins and friends...) big brother was born in November, so different seasons so I probably do need to buy some things, but i feel like my dh will complain that I'm buying things he doesnt think we need. Any tips on how to handle that? My husband is so frugal and practical.

I guess this is an UO - but I enjoy having people visit at the hospital! With DS we had lots of visitors between family and friends and it made the hospital stay a little more enjoyable. It also may have had to do with the fact that I was in the hospital for almost a week with an induction and then csection, but we were pretty happy to see anyone who wanted to come hangout. This time around we won't have many visitors since we are in a different city and only have maybe 1 friend close enough that would come and then my parents and brothers will come visit.
A little tip for hospital visitors overstaying their welcome... at our hospital if we ask the nurses for orange soda (which they don't have), it's a signal for them to boot out unwelcome visitors. It's a great like "safe-word" type of option to make other people the bad guy. If your nurses won't do it, tell your partners so they can be the bad-guys. I find hospital visitors downright unnecessary but I still give in for short, quick hellos.
I LOVE all the baby clothes pictures!! I want to buy all the cute outfits, but I’m trying to resist the urge. I have bought a few cute things and some Christmas stuff I couldn’t pass up (here’s hoping he’s in 9mo clothes at Christmas!) It takes all my willpower to ooh and ah at the baby clothes in target and NOT spend $100 each time. I have 3 targets in a 15 minute radius...not always a good thing. We did just get a dresser and that’s all set up now. I’ll be visiting my sister in LA in 2 weeks and she has a ton of cute, gender neutral clothes that are all mine if I want them. I think I’ll end up sorting through them on my visit and packing up a box to ship home.
mrswifeytoad I feel the same way, and my kids line up with seasons so it's even "worse." Today I'm going to look through what I have for NB and 0-3 and maybe let myself buy some clearance stuff.
ETA: lol I went downstairs, pulled a few boxes out, and then gave up before even opening them because I was overwhelmed.
@chewie5990 We had friends who were also new-ish parents visit. They brought Shake Shack. That was awesome. We also had our pastor and his husband visit. It was great not to have family because nobody felt like they could or should hold the baby. This time that won't be avoided though because my parents will need to bring DD to visit.

I’m on the team of “not telling people that I’m in labor.” DD was born 2,100 miles away from any family. DH texted everyone when we arrived at the hospital (which was 5am in Sunday for our family’s local time) and no one even saw the message until after she was born 🤣 it was fantastic.
This time, DH and I are trying to think what the best plan will be with DD. Obviously, someone will have to watch her so we need to be able to tell someone right away. But I’m nervous if we tell my mom, that she’ll try to stay in the hospital waiting room with DD!
Also, this is probably hospital specific, but do they allow 2-3 year olds to visit after birth? I know the NICU doesn’t, but do normal recovery rooms?
@jrouge12 That's odd. I just picked up my Target gift on Saturday. I would have been extra annoyed if they didn't have any, since the closest one is an hour away. Now I'm wondering if there's something I should take out of mine...
@mokay19 A lot of people in my April 2017 BMB have had two or more kids and none have had a problem with bringing big sibling to visit (not including NICU).

@mrswifeytoad sorry to hear about your uncle. As far as the husband not wanting you to shop maybe if you just find some really good deals he won't be able to pass it up? Or just tell him to shut it because you're carrying this baby and going through all of these physical and emotional things and need some retail therapy?
@mokay19 at our hospital the policy was to allow all siblings but other non-sibling guests had to be 14 or older which was a lovely excuse for me to limit some of my visitors that I really didn't need or want at the hospital.
Also just to mention 95% of the new clothes I bought for this baby were clearance or just really good deals. I think I bought a ton around Black Friday when Carters had an awesome sale. I maybe only paid full price for a handful of things that I just couldn't resist, but I'm very much suckered in by deals which is how I wind up with so much lol the good thing though is that my MIL knows how many clothes I buy so she never really buys clothes for DD or for this baby because she knows they'll never wear them when I have so many cute ones that I picked out myself so for those of you looking to get away from annoying grandparents maybe try overflowing your closets haha
So I just checked my email and see another from Carters and made the stupid mistake of clicking on it. They have all the spring stuff out now! Stuff for the appropriate seasons for these babies! Someone hold me back!
Then there's the issue when you are buying baby clothes online and they are on super sale that it takes a lot of them to hit the price threshold for free shipping
@pirateduck That’s the best time! I love when everything is on super sale and I have to keep adding to get to my free shopping minimum. But for future reference carters/osh kosh offer free shipping with no minimum.
Carters has free shipping promos every so often but usually it's $35+, but if you get their credit card it's free shipping all the time! Which is both good and bad. Now I'm not tempted to keep adding to get to the $35 but at the same time I can just be like oooh one outfit today, another tomorrow and probably end up spending more. Oops. It's the Kohls $10 off $50 they sometimes have or being close to the next level of Kohls cash that really sucks me into that trap! Also the Kohl's card has free shipping for cardholders like one week a month so I try to target my Kohl's shopping around there or do free pickup. Also I know it sounds like I have every credit card and you guys are probably worried about me with my shopping problem, but I swear I pay them all off in full every month and I'm only in it for the perks like free shipping and double rewards hahah.
Not to go off baby clothes topic, but know what you're getting out of your hospital before you deliver... My friend who just had her baby yesterday is having a terrible time with the "traveling" OB she has to have. First it was against his religion to tie her tubes so they had to have a general surgeon come in and do that. This morning she was told that it's against his religion to perform the circumcision they had planned for their son. To top it all off she was planning on going home tomorrow and the OB told her that he doesn't prescribed pain killers to go home with and that she should be able to handle the pain of the c-section with Tylenol and if she can't she can stay one more night and get pain killers there for another day because insurance allows you to stay for 3 days.
I'm so happy I didn't choose to deliver at this hospital.
@jhysmath that sounds awful situation for your friend.
On the clothing topic...i have been glad to not find out gender for all of mine because I would struggle with over shopping all the cute outfits. My mom then goes overboard after I deliver and saves me from doing it.
