I had one with my first, and it worked TOO well. I fell asleep, and when I woke up I couldn't feel anything from my armpits down. I couldn't move, and had trouble breathing. It was the most terrifying thing ever. When it came time to push, I couldn't even tell if I was pushing. The nurse had to help me "bear down" and put pressure on my stomach. When they turned it off, they said it would take about 2 hours to wear off. NOPE! It was 6 hours before I could move.
I did not get one with #2, tho I did end up asking toward the end, she was just too late. They did offer to numb me down there, but I was already a 10. But that may be the route I go this time.
@rachstar18 I'm one good jump or one kid (aka this one) away from NEVER having anymore bladder control lol.... I'm already mourning the loss. After this kid, crossing my legs isn't gonna keep it all in like it (usually) does now.
@meanjellybean don't flame me for this but, have you tried cutting caffeine? I find that's what happens to me when I have too much
@blaf322 you can pry my caffeine from my cold dead hands!! I'll stay up all night if it means I can drink my coffee and not get caffeine withdrawal headaches
@meanjellybean I am also exhausted and was up for 2 hours in the middle of the night last night for no reason whatsoever. I had not one drop of coffee yesterday, in case that makes you feel better? lol.
@blaf322@rachstar18 after kid #2 I asked for a referral for pelvic floor PT. I recommend it!! Definitely a good thing to work on long-term! After my first, I had so many issues peeing when sneezing or running. This went away so much faster after doing PT after my second.
@Pascal86 what kind of time investment did that look like for you for visits and such? After this kid, there's no question that I'll need it. I ran a trail 5k back in January and didn't pee RIGHT before starting, I was definitely working hard not to wet my pants every time I had to jump down a steep drop or anything that was more than a light impact towards the end. It suuuucked.... and DD is 3 soooo, it's not like I was still recovering or anything.
@mrsdrez lol that does make me feel better! Thank you! Hope we both get better sleep tonight.
As for the snissing, I'm not looking forward to that getting worse again. Because let's face it, it never went away. I was working with a personal trainer for a while after my daughter was born (like 8 months later lol) and one night he had me jump rope. I jumped like five times and just put it down and was like "nope, next activity. I'm going to pee myself."
@blaf322 I actually only went to one appointment ever, because she said things were looking fairly decent at 11 weeks postpartum when I went. But I was pretty good about doing the exercises - basically 10-15 minutes a day. Made a HUGE difference.
Apparently in France, pelvic floor PT is just a routine part post-partum care. After I heard that, I was determined to go because it just makes so much sense that you need to proactively address it. It’s so common for your pelvic floor to be messed up after childbirth, but doesn’t need to be a life sentence of peeing yourself.
@meanjellybean same here! It’s so frustrating! Last time I took it with my second and it helped so much with sleep and this time I am wide awake most the night then dragging again the next day 🤦🏻♀️
@blaf322 I did pelvic floor therapy as well and it was 9 weeks 😳 she said I was in pretty bad shape though. My biggest issue though was actually near my hips. My muscles just kept spasming as soon as she’d barely touch them. It was crazy! They wanted to put me on muscle relaxers but thankfully it finally started getting better. My youngest is also 3 1/2 so definitely don’t suggest waiting that long lol
sorry for the double post I responded too quick before breading all the way.
I'm so itchy... everywhere. I assumed it's the weather but it's probably related to pregnancy too. Is anyone else so itchy? Mostly my legs ,back, arms, sides, everywhere!
@blaf322 not totally sure - might have been an issue of it taking forever to get an appointment for me, since my provider doesn’t only has one pelvic floor PT. I assume you wouldn’t want to go earlier than 6 weeks since that’s wayyy to early. And side note: the PT typically involves them putting their fingers inside your vagina and having you do exercises so they can tell if you’re engaging the right muscles, etc. I don’t think they have to do it that way, but it’s the most effective option. Just so you’re aware - I know some people I’ve talked to have been startled by this approach, and I was happy to have had plenty of warning.
@enchantindragon I remember getting this way with the girls. I struggle to get enough water so I always assumed I was just getting dry from that but maybe it has to do with pregnancy as well.
@Pascal86 That’s a good warning because when I went in I had no idea that’s how they do it so I was a bit taken back.
@Pascal86 thanks for the head's up. I feel like, after you have a kid, you're just like, "meh... whoever needs to look/feel up in there, go ahead. Everyone else has."
@enchantindragon so, if it continues, I'd double check with your OB. It's SUPER uncommon to happen this early, but a telltale sign of cholestasis is itching and it needs to be treated.
I had a bit of a coughing fit last night and ended up dry heaving over the sink because DH was in our only bathroom. I’d just been thinking all day how my queasiness was definitely improving (9w3) but maybe I just had a good day. Back to feeling a little green this morning. I need to just be happy when I feel good instead of stressing out! 😂
Hi new here! Just wanted to give piece of mind to anyone in this same situation. I have almost no symptoms. This is an IVF pregnancy so I have some symptoms from the progesterone and estrogen, but I have had those before the embryo transfer, so I think those don't count. The only thing new is that I am a little more tired and my bedtime has moved from 11.00 pm to maybe 9.00 pm, but that is all. We had our fist US yesterday, baby was measuring right on track at 6w5d and with a very strong heartbeat.
@rachelredhead ugh I've been there recently too. I feel like I've had the same cold for like three weeks which means every morning I wake up with gunk in my throat and I'll cough and then start gagging. It's awful.
I want to sleep all day long.... I feel so tired, more than usual. My real problem is the nausea, last pregnancy was so easy I had nausea like 3 times, but now I feel nauseous all the time and to make it worse I got the flu so this morning I had this awful time because I was gagging, my nose was constipated, I couldn't breathe and my hubby was freaking out asking me if I was okay, but of course I couldn't say a word... what an awful morning
the bright side, hubby is ok with me having some naps while he does housework pregnancy perks
Chiming in on the pelvic floor convo...I WISH the US did it like France and it was standard part of postpartum care. That’s fantastic! My postpartum pelvic floor care consisted of my OB telling me to do Kegels. Thankfully, I have not had any issues.
I listened to a podcast where a pelvic floor PT was on and she addressed the peeing yourself after having kids by saying that “it’s common, but that doesn’t make it normal.” That spoke volumes to me!
Starting to seriously wonder if my lack of energy and motivation is 1st tri related, end of year related, or I'm just turning into a worthless blob? Maybe all three?
@blaf322 Oh what's that? How do I know if it's something vs just dry skin because of the season? I'll talk to my doctor at my next appointment on the 23rd regardless. Thank you for the information.
@enchantindragon if it's just occasional itching, it's dry skin. If it's constant itching... like, you feel like you're having a reaction to something, get it checked out. It usually comes on late in pregnancy but can come on earlier (though, I'm not sure just how early). I haven't had it but I know we had one or so on DD's BMB with it.
@stlbuckeye132 I feel like it's mostly first tri. I have never yawned so uncontrollably in a meeting as I did just now. And now I'm slumped down at my desk considering just leaving because I have zero productivity left. Next week maybe it can be attributed more to the end of the year/holidays lol.
@enchantindragon there was someone with ICP in my first BMB as well, and I actually was just listening to a podcast yesterday that mentioned it! From my understanding, it is CONSTANT itching and normally on hands and feet. It can be totally fine, but if you know you have it, you'd likely be induced to have the baby a little early.
I have a weird one that just popped up. Apparently pregnancy hormones can increase blood supply to the mouth and gums. Mine are super sensitive AND I got a canker sore! I haven’t had one of those since I was in my teens. 🤭

yes!!! my gums have started bleeding a little when brushing. i used to have a big problem with that and over th past year really made strides. but its baaaaaack!
@stlbuckeye132 I feel 0 productive since last week.... also next Thursday is my last day before holiday vacations so I am basically just counting the days to be off work... I totally feel you!
@b_1029 I had lots of cramps that made me nervous, since that I have had 2 US and everything is just fine, I do get you, I knew it was normal but still had me worried for days
Cramping for the last couple of days 😬 I know I’m my head it’s normal but that doesn’t mean I’m rational about it when it’s happening to me lol
I try to view mild cramping as a positive thing! It means your body is doing what it should be and that baby and sac is growing and digging out an even bigger space in your uterus. No pain, no gain 😂
This stuff is saving me when I have that weird nauseous/hungry feeling. I think the protein helps, the creaminess of the yogurt, and the ginger. It’s like it was made for pregnant people.
@b_1029 ugh... I know the feeling. It's so stressful to feel crampy like that! FX it goes away soon and is just you LO making some more room in there to grow
@b_1029 the mantra I repeat when I feel those twinges (or any anxiety about the bean) is “My baby is secure. My body knows what to do.” I read it in a blog somewhere and I’ve found it super reassuring. I even try to do breathing exercises with it, breathe in the first sentence, breathe out the second. I totally understand the worry!
DH and I have been reading/referencing the Mayo Clinic's "Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy" and in a chapter for/about partners, it mentioned "sympathy symptoms" that some partners experience. DH is traveling for work this week and texted me this morning to say he felt sick, and just updated me to say he has "had low-level nausea all day" and I was like, I bet you're having sympathy symptoms and/or guilt-induced symptoms because you feel bad leaving me alone while I'm feeling sick ha 🤣
@rachelredhead I live in that "nauseous starving" state. Just sent the boy out for Arby's.
Current pregnancy - First BFP on 1/4/22. Due date 9/13/22.
Four prior losses, no living children - 1 first trimester miscarriage, 1 blighted ovum, 1 chemical, and one extreme premature live birth daughter who died at 15 days old.
