I’m either overindulging in my cravings or I’m already starting to have some swelling from fluid retention. My rings left indent marks on my fingers this morning. They usually fit a little on the loose side 😫
Ok so this is my 5th pregnancy (I have 3 kids and this hopefully will be number 4) and I have never had morning sickness before. Last night I wasnt feeling well, I felt nauseous and had a headache and my stomach was rumbling even though I just ate dinner. I ate two granola bars hoping it was hunger but it didnt help. Eventually I got up and threw up and then felt better. I went to bed and my husband took care of bedtime etc and I basically just slept from 8 to 7 this morning. Is this morning sickness or did I catch a stomach bug? Im scared if its a stomach bug for it spread thru my family right before Christmas but I never had morning sickness before and Ill be 10 weeks tomorrow so it seems late to be starting too? My husband said everyone was fine this morning so not food poisoning since we all ate the same dinner.
@enchantindragon to me it seems unlikely that it's morning sickness if you've been fine up until last night. But it doesn't necessarily sound like a stomach bug either if it was just once and done? I'm hoping it was just a fluke and everyone else stays healthy!
@enchantindragon I would think stomach bug and try to stay far away from everyone if at all possible. I doubt it's food poisoning if you're not continuing to be violently ill and it's just vomit.
@enchantindragon sounds like a stomach bug. I’m not a poker at all, so when I have a stomach bug, it’s usually a one-time vomit if at all, but feels a lot like what you’re describing. I’ve never had terrible morning sickness, but it pretty much is always at its worst when I have an empty stomach, not when I’m full.
@enchantindragon I agree if you haven’t had any morning sickness it might be a bug. I think I had a mild one last week because I was having some other issues during the day and then threw up once that night. No one else got it so maybe that will be the case here!! 🤞🙏 That being said... the last few nights my morning sickness has gone way up and I’ve almost thrown up but it’s just getting that bad at bedtime and then the constant I feel sick most of the day but I’ve had really bad morning sickness this time so it’s been hard to tell what’s what!
MIGRAINES. started week 12 to the day, my OB said they’d be worst during second trimester. Holy crap the last three days have been a nightmare!!
Is anyone else going thru this? Or maybe had w a previous pregnancy?
I’ve had migraines since 16 with them ranging from mild to severe depending on what’s going on. Ie in grad school they were chronic/daily but recently had been <1/month! Didn’t gave any during first trimester!
Now I’ve had two nights of excruciating pain and multiple episodes of visual aura and hand/face numbness.
Ugh @samwalker714 that sucks. I've not personally dealt with migraines but my friend did before pregnancy and they've worsened with it like you described. Her doctor prescribed her occasional muscle relaxers, she takes about a half a pill max each time she has a migraine, and she says it has helped a lot (at a minimum, it enables her to sleep!) I don't think she started with them til she was past 20 weeks but I'm not sure if that's bc you're not supposed to early in pregnancy or bc she didn't talk to her doc until that point so FWIW I'd recommend bringing it up if you haven't already!
@samwalker714 I’m a migraine sufferer as well. The only thing I’m still taking is aspirin free Excedrin (2 1st thing), 1 with Tylenol later 4-6 hours and 1 with another Tylenol later in evening. These pills are only caffeine I ingest. And never the regular Excedrin.
Not great but all got approved. I was on a muscle relaxant pre-pregnancy not been approved for even half of it.
@mehugg I've also suffered with migraines since I was 12. My ob wrote me a script for magnesium which she said helps prevent headaches if taken daily. It can also help with Charlie horses.
@samwalker714 def speak with your doc about it. When I went for my nurse appt last week I remember she mentioned something about migraines - I think it was an rx for Reglan combined with benedryl or something. I've never been diagnosed with migraines but do occasionally get headaches that are debilitating and affect my vision, etc. Honestly the worst part of pregnancy for me is not being able to take Advil because that is the only thing that works. I really hope your doc can find something that works for you. Hang in there.
I’ll definitely look into this @bluguitarhannah, it sounds similar to my typical regimen. My OB Isn’t supposed to see me for another 3 weeks so I’ll have to call.
@meanjellybean I've taken reglan in combos before, like 7 years ago. I stopped because of side effects but I hear it’s still very commonly used!
@MrsB915 gosh I have been recommended magnesium before and did it when migraines were chronic, I should definitely consult my OB about it. I had a girlfriend that supplemented magnesium and felt great!
This migraine was awful and lasted 3 days... maybe I won’t have another one?! Wishful thinking!!
Week 9 is rough! I threw up last night and have felt like on the verge all day today. We have a Christmas thing tonight with DH’s family and it’s right smack when I have it the worst. Really hoping to not throw up at the party! The car ride is not helping 🤢
Raise your hands if your have HG? I threw up so many times yesterday I blacked out. Went to urgent care. Threw up all the zofran. I ended up at the ER and they admitted me. Hoping to be discharged today. The zofran is cutting it for me and my insurance isn’t approving Diclegis 😭 any other options?
@rachstar18. Oh my goodness. I am so sorry you are in the hospital on Christmas. That sounds so so scary. I had a friend with HG, and once they figured out the right meds for her, it made a huge difference. I know the diclegis helped a lot. I hope your insurance gets its head out of its ass soon. Thinking about you. ❤
@rachstar18 I thought Diglecis is standard and Zofran was next. Ask you've about Diglecis which is B6 and Unisom and what dosage and when to take(doesn't do much for me and I just have all day nausea).
Diglecis didn't help my bff but Zofran did. She even went a couple times for Zofran IV. My friends sister had Zofran pump (24/7 thing I guess??).
Another gf had HG two pregnancies (wasnt diagnosed until after first pregnancy where she was in and out of hospital a lot and down 25 lbs in first trimester) she was on Bonjesta and Zofran second pregnancy and avoided hospital(and only lost 15 lbs).
@rachstar18 I am so so sorry you are going through this.
I had HG with my first pregnancy, and it was seriously awful. I have had to be
very proactive with medication to keep the nausea and vomiting under control
this time.
I personally need a medication
combo to prevent myself from vomiting all the time. One medication alone does
not help. Remember, I am not a doctor, so of course check with your doctor
about anything I mention.
This is the general combo
that helps me:
1)
Acid reducer
2)
Antihistamine to help
with the nausea
3)
Antiemetic to help
with vomiting (one type or multiple, depending on your needs)
Acid Reducer:
I am using Nexium (ok’d
by my doctor), but there are many options to look into. The Approved Meds
thread has some other options.
Antihistamine:
Look into Bonjesta. Diclegis
is not covered by my insurance either. However, you can pay a cash price for
Bonjesta (the new version of Diclegis) from a mail-order pharmacy. The cost is
not cheap (99/month), but is much cheaper than paying the full price for Bonjesta.
You can find the information on how to get it here: https://www.bonjesta.com/bonjesta-savings#savings
If this doesn’t work, you
can look into unisom +B6 that many people on the board have mentioned. The HER Foundation
website has some other antihistimines you can try as well.
Antiemetic:
There are three main
options that my doctor has discussed with me: Zofran, Phenergan, Reglan
You can take one or a
combination of these. If Zofran isn’t working for you, you could ask your
doctor about one of the others. Also remember that Zofran comes in two forms – a
fast dissolving tablet that some people cannot stomach the taste of and a
regular pill form. You could try the other form if you are unable to keep one
of them down.
Some other tips:
1) Dehydration will
reduce the efficacy of the medications you take, so don’t delay getting IVs! Some
doctors can set you up with regular infusion center visits if needed so you don’t
have to keep going to the ER.
2) Constipation is a side-effect
of Zofran, so you will need to be very proactive about taking something like
Colace or Miralax with it.
3) There are options for
you if none of this works – like home health (for IVs) or a medication pump (you
can get either a Zofran or Reglan pump)
Let me know if you have any questions. I really hope you feel better soon!
@rachstar18 I’m so sorry you’re dealing with HG. I worked in infusion pharmacy for years and we dealt with HG patients. Everything @sandhill123 said is spot on.
My only added suggestion would be to see if you can find anything using the GoodRx app (on your phone) to help with your out of pocket expenses on the antihistamines that aren’t covered for you. Sometimes they have good discounts available. If not, definitely consider doxylamine (Unisom) and B6.
@rachstar18 I am so so sorry you are dealing with this. I hope you can find something that helps and you can get some kind of holiday do-over. So important to take care of yourself and call in all the reinforcements need.
10 weeks is hitting me like a ton of bricks. The nausea and fatigue have amplified and I’ve spent all day on the couch. Anyone else find that 10 weeks was/is also a tough one? I’m seriously dreading going to work tomorrow!
@kristinl492 I am 10 weeks today and felt just more overall “bleh” the last couple days than I have. (Wondering if it’s partially because of all the carbs I’ve been eating since I can’t stomach much else 😂)
@kristinl492 yes! Week 9 and 10 have been rough! I’ve been pretty sick since week 5 but these past two weeks I just feel like blah. I mean maybe today is still partly because of the stomach bug but I’m wiped out even after a decent nights sleep and so nauseous! I’m about to ask for some Zofran. I keep pushing it off since it gives me bathroom trouble but it’s starting to be worth it!
Bring. On. The. Heartburn. 🔥 drinking peppermint tea like it’s going out of style, it momentarily helps the nausea and heartburn combo. But man oh man.
Oof y'all after a week of feeling like my energy was coming back and virtually no nausea, today it all was back with a vengeance. Here's hoping it's just from staying up late last night 😕
Bring. On. The. Heartburn. 🔥 drinking peppermint tea like it’s going out of style, it momentarily helps the nausea and heartburn combo. But man oh man.
No heartburn yet for me, but I’ve already bought Tums in anticipation of when it kicks in. I currently get a slight stomachache after almost every single meal 🙄
Hi darlings! I'm a little late to the game here, due July 7th.
I'm so happy that at 13w3d, my symptoms are finally starting to lessen up a bit. There was a period really recently where my nausea was worse than ever for about a week and my gag reflex was craaaaaazy sensitive, but luckily managed to hold everything in. I've still been feeling tired here and there, but it definitely isn't consistent like it used to be (1pm on the dot every day, bam, so tired). Yesterday and today are the first days I haven't felt like my nipples were stuck in electrified clamps.
@pocketrose - I hear you girl, I have the same thing. Pregnancy is no friend of emetoiphobia. The best thing to do when it comes to eating is do the tried and true small meals regularly. They'll have you feeling a lot less gross anyway. As for the anxiety, try to occupy yourself with things that make you feel good when you start to worry. A comfort movie, a good bath, some music, a drive, whatever gets your mind off of the thought of feeling sick, or worrying about feeling sick. I've found that eating popsicles helps when I start getting like that. They settle my tummy and bring back a comforting feeling of childhood nostalgia that soothes my nerves a little bit
Restless fucking legs. Anyone else? I don't remember it being this bad this early last time. It's making my already shitty sleep even worse. I literally want to cut my leg off lol. The nurse even had me start a magnesium supplement to help alleviate restless legs and headaches, but guess what, I've had both over the last week and I'm not even technically in the second trimester yet.
@meanjellybean oh no! Restless legs are the WORST! You feel like you need to get up and jog in place next to the bed. I'm so sorry you're dealing with that!
No restless legs bit last pregnancy I had terrible leg cramps and they were so tight through rest of pregnancy (epic charlie horses as soon as I pushed DS out).
I hear the magnesium spray works really well too (in addition to suppplement).
Re: *Symptoms Thread*
I've giving birth 4 times. 3 are a live. I've given a collective amount of 107 hours all of births given together 😫
I’m either overindulging in my cravings or I’m already starting to have some swelling from fluid retention. My rings left indent marks on my fingers this morning. They usually fit a little on the loose side 😫

Fun new symptom: I have been having increased libido in the mornings. Then the sickness kicks in and it goes away.
