The Great Question Thread

Re: The Great Question Thread

  • @taylor2020 you’ll grow into them

@Swiftlet baby toiletries or coordinating outfits for older sibling and younger sibling
  • Loading the player...
  • @swiftlet, Amazon/Target gift card because there is definitely stuff she wants to get but may be particular about what she needs. Or something for herself, manicure/massage type thing.
  • @taylor2020 honestly, I’ve always had that problem with maternity jeans. Even at my biggest pregnancy weight (and I had 9 pounders!). Short of hiking them up all the time, I would sometimes wear a tight maternity cami under my shirt and pull it down over the top of my pants to hold them up.

@swiftlet diapers are always good. And also a few new clothes are nice. I dressed my second son in a lot of hand me downs from his older brother when he was a newborn. Honestly, I wish I had bought a few more things for him since it is now hard for me to tell who is who in newborn pics!
  • @Swiftlet I agree with the gift card idea.  How well do you know her?  Maybe trying a talk to her about baby things and see if she mentions anything.

    @brookert615 how's the ring situation?

@taylor2020 I would size down honestly. You are supposed to go with your prepregnancy size with maternity wear and Old Navy is generous with their sizing.

@Swiftlet diapers are always appreciated! A gift card is nice too. ETA: or a basket with bath supplies. The animal friends ducks etc only last about 6 mos before they get moldy and everyone could use new baby wash.

  • Thanks for all of the suggestions guys :)@celticknotfire We're not like BFF or anything but we definitely talk baby stuff since this is my first pregnancy and her second. I was thinking of asking her about stuff she'd recommend I include on my registry or "must haves" and see what sorts of things would be needed for a second baby versus having kept from the first. @therealbitts I think she's having a girl (her first was a boy) so that may open to door to get a cute new outfit :)
  • I’m almost 14 weeks and the nausea/ throwing up is just getting worse. I had this with my oldest, too. Has anyone been prescribed something for the nausea that works? It’s just hard to function and I’m over feeling so awful all the time.

  • @AugustGlass
I'm about the same week wise and feeling the same way you are! I've been using preggie pop drops and just bought some of the plus ones that have b6 to try. They seem to help for a little bit.
  • @Augustglass @babyroma I got zofran weeks ago and it REALLY helps.
  • @AugustGlass I called my nurse when I felt like I couldn’t keep up with my toddler and handle the nausea. She prescribed Bonjesta. Technically I can take it twice a day but it makes me so sleepy that I only take it before bed. The good news is it is slow release so it helps me through most of the day. Now I only feel bad before I take it at night. Hopefully you’ll find something that helps you soon!!
  • @AugustGlass you can take the OTC equivalent of Zofran. My midwife told me I could take it x3/day:
    - 1/2 Unisom sleep tab. Make sure you get the tab (doxylamine succinate) and not the gel.
    - 25 mg vitamin B6. I could only find 100 mg in stores so I cut it in 4 with a knife, very easy to do.

  • @babyroma @Swiftlet @char245 @rikiteacup thanks ladies. I’m doing B6 and unisom but it just doesn’t cut it most days and it’s getting impossible to keep up with my 3 and 5 year old. Hopefully it improves soon!

  • @AugustGlass in this case, time to ask your doctor for something stronger.

@rikiteacup zofran is ondansetron- there is no OTC version. They work differently. You may be thinking Bonjesta, which is B6 based :)
  • Polling people’s opinion on taking class C drugs. My understanding is that these are the ones where there’s no reported issues but that’s because there’s been no studies in humans or animals (correct me if I’m wrong).

In a gross overshare - one of my primary symptoms from day 1 has been diarrhea and Imodium is giving me life. I try to limit it but even so I’ve probably been taking it 1-2x week on average. I asked the nurse once how to deal and she told me to take it, but I have lingering guilt. Thoughts?
  • @optimism3 If your nurse said it's ok then it's ok. They aren't going to advise you to take stuff that could have teratogenic effects on your baby without warning you of the consequences. 😊
  • Thanks @mandk1233. Good point
  • Who do you guys think has better prices- Buybuy Baby or Babies R Us?
  • @charbabymama, um BRU doesn’t exist anymore does it?
  • @jvk2012 it does in Canada
  • @mandk1233 I’m so jealous you still have BRU!
  • @charbabymama I get everything at babies r us. I find buy buy baby is over priced (unless you can get a 20% off coupon in the mail) . BRU also price matches (even off of Amazon)
  • @misstree5 very helpful thank you!

@mandk1233 I didn’t realize that we only had it in Canada! I knew BRU stores were closing, didn’t realize it was only in the US
  • Does anyone start on your side, but wake up in the middle of the night on your back? No matter what I do it happens.
  • @TennisLove30 yep. The mini snoogle isn’t doing as good of a job as the full sized one did for me. But they say you’ll wake up if you need to move.

  • @TennisLove30 at this point it doesn’t matter anyway.
  • @TennisLove30 Yup, I do the same thing. The past couple nights, in the wee hours of the morning, I've just given in and propped a pillow under my back so I'm sleeping at an angle. I've read online that if sleeping on your back was being harmful, you would wake up light headed, nauseous, or short of breath. So far that hasn't happened for me; it's just normal tossing and turning.
  • Has everyone started their stroller research? Which one do you think you’ll buy?!
  • @charbabymama There's a whole thread about this. The last time it was updated was yesterday, I think, so it's a ways down but still on the first page of threads.
  • @TennisLove30 I solved this issue by getting a full U-shaped pregnancy pillow and sleeping with my legs wrapped around the side I am facing. But I agree that you would probably notice if it was actually causing you issues.
  • I think I may need to invest in a pregnancy pillow.
  • Maybe a silly FTM TMI question, but hey that's what we're here for right? Lol
I've noticed some white dots on my nipples. No leakage or anything that I've seen yet. Is that a normal thing? Anybody else experience this?
  • @babyroma clogged pores/ white heads. I get them like crazy, even worse when breastfeeding is in full swing. Something about the skin being more oily than normal.
  • @babyroma yup mine started doing that a couple weeks ago.
  • @babyroma Yup! Mine started a couple of weeks ago, too!

  • @babyroma little raised white bumps on my nipples was one of my first pregnancy signs. It was already happening before I got a bfp.
  • @babyroma same thing is happening. It looks like a flake of dead skin though when I try to remove it.

  • Has anyone had a lingering headache?  I've had a headache for almost a week and it's really annoying.  At times it becomes a migraine but then lessens into a headache.  I have a home BP cuff and my BP has been low, which is normal for me, and hasn't gone above 118/66
