I actually feel like I used a lot. I put on makeup right before going to see DD (NICU baby), I wore most of my outfits, especially the nursing night gown I packed, and I ate tons of snacks. Also we brought my own birthing ball (deflated) and used that one instead of the hospital one to labor on. The only thing I remember I didn't used was the nursing pillow mainly because I nursed in a wheelchair most of the time, and they had arm rests.
However, I should look over my old list to see what I did and didn't use.
  • @elle-0409 - We miss you too. Maybe we'll bump into each other on a future BMB (when you come back for #2!)

Impressed you managed to put on makeup!  I think a lot of it had to do with the fact that I lost a lot of blood and had really bad tearing, so I didn't want to wear my own clothes and potentially ruin them, so I stayed in the johnnies.  I also pushed for 4 hours and was soaked with sweat and no amount of makeup could have saved me from looking like I'd been hit by a truck.

@inthewoods23 I had a reply to her typed out and never posted it because I felt like I don’t really “go here” yet and didn’t know if it would be weird haha. But my blood was boiling for you! What is wrong with her

Anyone have any must-dos in New Orleans? DH and I are headed there this weekend and are feeling a little unprepared
  • b_1029b_1029 member
Boooo what happened to the time of day thread? I thought it was funny 😞
  • @bows22 Probably obvious, but Cafe du Monde. I have been to NOLA much as an adult, but I love beignets.

  • @bows22 Heyo New Orleans is in my (current) home state! It's Jazz Fest this weekend, so it's gonna be a bit nuts in the city. Here are some tips for that that are pretty thorough--we wanted to go Friday bc the line-up is unbelievable, but we're too broke =(. Ummm, for other stuff check out FRENCHMEN STREET for nightlife--music, people watching, etc. there's also a little art market around there I like stopping by. It's better than Bourbon St. by far, which is kind of frat-boy whack, though it's worth like one walk down just to say you did it. You can... go to Anne Rice's house in the Garden District? There's always a ghost tour! If you like oysters, there's 25 cent oysters at Samuel's Blind Pelican. It's crawfish season, too, so if you are into that sort of thing, get a few pounds of boiled crawfish! Let me know if you have any specific categories for things to do, and I can give more suggestions! I *love* NOLA.
  • @b_1029 aww man, what am I supposed to do for a laugh now?? The sad part is the thread asking about birth control is still there!

@kagesstarshroom oh perfect! Thank you so much! You can definitely say things that may seem obvious because we don’t really know what we are doing at all. I have a work conference next week and we figured we would make a mini vacation out of it since neither of us have ever been there. But it kind of snuck up on us now! That’s a great tip about Frenchmen street, I’m sure we will walk down bourbon st to say we did it but we are too old for frat boy whack hahaha. We basically like to eat and drink....and do cool things haha. Your suggestions are perfect though, thank you!

edit because I re-read and @mercury94 is the one that made the comment about cafe du monde being obvious. Thank you! I knew about beignets but not where to go
  • @kels0091 - hooray! That's such fabulous news!

@kels0091 fantastic news!!! 😁 glad you had such a good day! ❤
  • @kels0091That’s fantastic news, hooray! Amazing that you’re the one who saved him!!!
  • @kels0091 that’s awesome news! What a huge sigh of relief!
  • @kels0091 yay! Wonderful news, I am so happy for both of you!!
  • @bows22 - if you're coffee people get some chicory! I think they serve it at Cafe du Monde and probably other coffee shops...NOLA is so amazing, I love how it really feels like it could be in a whole different country. When we were there a couple years ago I felt like "why is there this type of coffee here that no one talks about in the rest of the US?"

Also we went to a dessert/cocktail place called Bakery Bar for dessert one night which was yummy and felt like a cool spot. We were staying in the Garden District so it was pretty close but maybe a bit out of the way otherwise.

@kels0091 - amazing news about your bf!! And that's great about the referral!
  • kels0091  YAY!  Such awesome news.  Super happy for you guys!!!!

  • @bows22 I will add to say that the touristy restaurants are good & definitely do a beignet, but you don't have to wait in line at somewhere like Ruby Slipper to get good food--I say, do a touristy one once and otherwise don't bc it's not worth having to wait? and most locals argue there's better food at not the touristy places anyway. Suis Generis and Kebab are good "not touristy"  restaurants. There's a restaurant on Bourbon St. called Red Fish Grill that had standard and delicious NOLA fare & we didn't wait in a line to get in there. Foubourg's Wine is a great little wine shop that's pretty great. OH, and since you love eating and drinking, there are these little food courts-- one is called St. Roch's Market and the other is--oo I can't figure out what the other one is called, but it's super cute and right between the French Quarter and Warehouse District...  Anyway, they have like a bunch of different vendors inside and it's all affordable and super delicious and that way you don't have to, like "pick" a restaurant you can both go in there and eat good food from different vendors? MH & I also like walking thru the French Market, and there are art and goods and food/drink/coffee/etc. vendors there.
  • @kels0091 What a relief! So happy for you both!
