Re: Weekly randoms (10/22-10/26)

  • Same here with the pee dreams. And for some reason I end up in the grossests of bathrooms and barefoot trying to find a toilet that works or isn’t disgusting. Sometimes I do find a toilet and try to ‘go’ but nothing happens and I’m like wtf in my dream. Then I wake up and go to the real toilet and it’s sweet relief!

  • Exactly the same here @allthingsgo! This morning there was no seat and it was tiny but I tried anyway, lol.
  • @BourbonBiscuits way to go! Good luck tonight - you got this!

i don’t really have the pee dreams so now I feel left out haha

sidenote: anyone’s kids ever take bromfed the cough syrup and have them become possessed by an evil ancient demon? My DS has done a complete 180 from super chill to actual demon beast intent on destroying the universe and being a huge dick to everyone. I read online it can make patients “irritable” but Jesus h. Christ I think I need an exorcist! I’m stopping it today as I can’t handle the antics any longer - he apparently destroyed his classroom today and told the teacher to bugger off.  Complete with pooping his pants of course.

  • @madreofdragons yes to pee dreams! that has been a forever one. my dreams usually revolve around me having trouble finding a toilet or a place to pee.
  • @okayestmom12 I've found myself worrying about sounding ungrateful a lot lately, you shouldn't! It's completely fine to not want stuff, parties, guests, what have you. I'm very pleased to be dodging a shower.

Thanks for pointing me over to march @BourbonBiscuits. That's quite something.... I love our board!

I'll confess to once having a pee dream that ended badly, a couple years ago. It was the most bizarre thing. I'm not at all one to wake up in the night to pee, even now and that really really freaked me out. Luckily it's never happened since!
  • @okayestmom12 I feel the same way about not wanting a sprinkle/shower. It just feels like an invitation to get more stuff when we’re already overwhelmed with junk. And then I feel guilty/ungrateful. It’s a vicious cycle!
  • I turned down a sprinkle too!
  • You guys ... if you want some wild reading check the March 19 To all the Lurkers board. Seemed like a totally innocent, inviting post that just exploded. My jaw was on the floor by the end of it.
Omg you guys, I couldn’t even handle reading more than a little bit of that thread. That was something! I quickly clicked back over here! Now I can breathe! Lol!
  • never heard of a sprinkle!  Learn something new every day :)

@danixbanani24 , that sounds fun... so sorry!

I had a pee dream before... woke up when it started, so just a little damp, no biggy!
  • @madreofdragons- I have to be induced at least a week early too (because of being over 40 and placental insufficiency concerns, not GD), so you are not alone...
  • I was induced with DD too so it’s nothing new, just hearing a closer date made it feel 6 months closer lol.
  • Ok this is VERY random. Do we have anyone who has a traditional German down comforter (daunendecke)? If you do.. do you wash yours in the washer? I know the chances of getting this answered are probably slim lol.
  • Ugh so H took a shower this morning and noticed it draining slowly. When he tried to unclog it, it got worse! Now it's not draining at all, and the tub is full of goo. He tried everything. Maintenance guy won't be here until tomorrow afternoon so no shower for me today! Awesome!

  • That M19 thread was hilarious. Everyone had novella-length responses, though, so I only got through half of it. I can only read so many 500-word essays before tiring of the theme. :D

@megpants209 Good luck with the German thing! I did Google "daundendecke waschen" out of curiosity, and the German websites (this one was very helpful) said that you can wash it on warm in a large washer (front-loading) with a few tennis balls. A few of the results said to air dry it, but others, including the linked one, said to put it in the dryer with tennis balls and let it dry for no more than 20 minutes on low heat. Take it out after 20 minutes, give it a good shake to fluff it up and redistribute any lumps of down, then put it back in for another 20 minutes. Repeat until dry.
I have a quilted down comforter that's similar to the German one, and I wash it with a tennis ball at the laundromat (with Free and Clear detergent). My washer is top-loading with an agitator, and that doesn't work well for washing blankets.
  • @grebretso ugh!

@megpants209 I’m not sure what the difference is between a daunendecke and a regular down comforter, but I have real down comforters that I’ve washed in my machine before without noticing any ill effects. I used to always take them to the dry cleaner but that just got sooo expensive. I followed the directions at the link below, and everything worked fine, mostly it just took a lot of cycles in the dryer. https://www.everydaycheapskate.com/home-and-family/forget-the-dry-cleaner-how-to-wash-a-down-comforter/

@grebretso Last year at Christmas, my parents' sewage line backed up (we found out later that a tree root had blocked the pipe). So for Christmas day and the day after Christmas until the plumbers came, we couldn't take showers, and had to use the bathroom at the gas station down the street. And H happened to have food poisoning during that time because of eating sprouts at Jimmy Johns on Christmas Eve, so he had lots of bowel movements :D. It was a memorable Christmas.
  • @hannahbananas11 that was SO helpful! I don’t speak or read German anymore (not since I was little sadly) but the symbols show no washing, drying or dry cleaning so I was like wtf do I do.

Apparently in Germany everyone just aired them out over the rail but uhh... that’s not my style lol.
  • @jessier19 I’m honestly not sure of the differences but I know there are some significant differences in either the materials or making of them. They last forever if taken care of properly (this one is 32 years old already!) so I worried about messing it up.
  • Good grief @hannahbananas11! That's a perfect storm. My parents' very old house has one bathroom and questionable plumbing. The holidays are always.... Exciting.  :#
  • @megpants209 I can only (slightly) comprehend written German from my college classes. I've not used it in a long time, though, so I've forgotten a lot, sadly.
If you look at the site on Chrome, Google has a translate feature that is usually pretty good, and it might work for the site I sent. I lived by that feature when I visited France.
  • @hannahbananas11 I will try that! Thanks again :)
  • @BourbonBiscuits I’m a little late to this but I’m glad he did so good last night! Hopefully he will stick with it!
  • @hannahbananas11 Oh nooo! Why does stuff like that always happen during holidays?! That's WAY worse than our situation!

Thankfully I can still use the sink and toilet. Today was supposed to be hair wash day, but I'll grab the dry shampoo once again tomorrow morning. Worst comes to worst, if it's not fixed tomorrow I can always shower at work as well.

@hannahbananas11 that exact same thing happened at Christmas at my grandparents’ house when I was 8 or 9 years old! A tree root had grown into the septic tank, and then I guess having so many house guests overloaded the system. Only they lived way out in the country and we had to drive half an hour to get to a public restroom, and my grandfather was being cheap about not wanting to pay a plumber overtime to come during the holiday, so the problem just kept getting worse and worse until one morning the septic tank overflowed and flooded their entire first floor. When I imagine what this would be like as an adult, I’m horrified, but the truth is that as an 8 year old the whole thing just felt like one big adventure. I remember it as one of my happiest Christmases!
  • @BourbonBiscuits night two commences! Sounds off to a decent start...my DS is in his room chattering away to DH and singing this is Halloween from nightmare before Xmas lol. Gonna be a long one tonight for us

  • Sorry I’ve been awol again, guys. Things have been crazy around here this week and today has been a cluster. DS (15m old) had his well check today and got 3 shots. He’s having a reaction and it’s caused his fever to spike up to 102.9. Motrin isn’t even touching it. He’s been absolutely miserable today. Poor kid. I will try and catch up tomorrow.
  • @PurplePoppy424 - Oh man. The poor guy! I hope the overnight went okay and you guys got some rest.

    @danixbanani24 - How’d it go?

@BourbonBiscuits - Sounds like it started well! Yay!

  • Woke up from sleep horrendously anxious and can’t seem to shake it.  :/  not sure what is going on with my brain!!
  • It started within an hour of getting up for me @ohsunnydays and work has only made it worse. I hope the day gets better for both of us.
  • @ohsunnydays it sounds weird but postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety can start while you are pregnant. do you have  a history of anxiety or anyone in your family?
  • @BourbonBiscuits - I am in bed every night before 9 PM every night. I’m usually falling asleep after 8:30 after DS goes to bed at 8.

  • @okayestmom12 once he finally settled down after like an hour he slept all night! Had a hard time waking him up for school this morning!

  • @ohsunnydays my anxiety totally flares when I'm pregnant, and I had my first bout of prenatal depression with this baby. It was so different than my normal anxiety/depression flares. Hoping you can get through the day without incident and have a relaxing evening and feel better!

    That's amazing @danixbanani24!!

We had another ehh night - DS was up at some point (no clue what time, my overly dramatic husband says it was ONE O CLOCK IN THE MORNING. Chill out dude, it was like 3am) and struggled mightily to fall back asleep. He came tiptoeing into our room and walked right up to my face and said "mama" and booped my nose. Hysterical. Happily walked back to his room with me where we laid until DH came in and pulled my toe at 6am to tell me my alarm went off. DS was still awake (although I think he snoozed on and off while I was with him). Then I get a text from DH at 8:15 that DS had passed out on the couch watching The Incredibles lol. Likely gonna be a rough day for them!
  • @madreofdragons you are not alone! Probably being induced at least a week early as well due to cord issues. Kinda made it more real for me too

@ohsunnydays my anxiety has gotten 10fold worse. Going to mention it at my next appt. I wake super anxious or super emotionally drained for no reason constantly. Hope it gets better for you!

So a random van parked behind my car in our driveway today and started honking. Hung out for like 5 minutes and then left. Noone ever got out... Scared me because a) I don't live in a neighborhood and b) we are pretty much off the beaten path. I live on some land in the middle of nowhere. Can't hardly even see my neighbor. To get to my house you have to really try, especially since we are the next to last one on the dirt road.
